  1. Cheers for that mate. Greatly appreciated. Col Here's the official positions, but be careful with the front location as the sump could be mistaken for the jacking position which is just in front of it. The top diagram should be the one you need but double check they are similar to the 220D as this obviously details the petrol versions:
  2. Hi Jay, 80K isn't a lot really. If it was a fleet car, and has been properly serviced by Lexus/Lexus dealer, and the book is stamped you may be OK. I've heard that some of the pre- 07 model engines suffered a lot of problems, and, that Lexus have replaced the engines even although they were out of warranty. Other than that, it's a good car. I love mine to bits, and there's loads of great advice on this forum too. Good luck mate. Col.. <[;o)
  3. Hi peeps, sorry if I am repeating this question, but I would love to know where to put axle stands while I paint my brake calipers?? Also, I have a trolley jack, but also don't have a clue as to where to safely jack up the car. Any help/pics appreciated. Ta Col...
  4. My advice is don't do it. The price is far too high for a write off. Keep your money and have another look around. I'd only pay a max of 3500 for that one, amd still be worried. Col.
  5. Try the "Roofbox Company". I just got loads of stuff from them at a great price and fast delivery. Col...
  6. I have noticed since I've had my IS220D that the front spoiler seemed stone chipped. Now It seems that the laquer is coming off the spoiler. (peeling!). Has anyone else experienced this? My feeling is that maybe there was damage before I bought the car and the spoiler was not sprayed properly?? Col
  7. Danny, I had the minor lag problem, but, Lexus Aberdeen re-flashed the ECU and it improved greatly. Thw whistle from the turo is quite normal, although a little pronounced on some models. This isn't peculiar just to the IS220d. I hear it om Merc's, renaults, mondeo's and others, so it is nothing to worry about. I have driven a few different IS220d's as loan cars, and they were exactly the same, so i wouldn't worry. As Matus suggests, if you're worried, try to get a shot of another one just to see. Col <{;o)
  8. Thanks guys, I'll make sure that I use the Mobil instead of the Shell... (they're always a bit more expensive!!). Cheers Col... <[;o) This is perfect. Although I was advised by my local dealer to use Shell's ridiculously over-priced 5W-30 because "that's what we use here". But Mobil 1 begged to differ. I added an injection flush before I flushed the oil, with the car running for 10 minutes, believe it or not this made a heap of difference. Looking in through the oil filler cap, I could identify gunge-looking residues and the additive cleaned this very well insuring an effective flow in the compartment. I would highly recommend doing this on every 2nd/3rd oil change. You will notice the difference. I for one noticed the smoothness of the engine, but that could also be the addition of Mobil 1.
  9. Hi peeps, Not sure if this has been covered before, but I want to put the very best oil in to my IS220D on the next service wich is due in a couple of weeks???s. Any advice gratefully received. Cheers Col.
  10. I really enjoyed reading your post normski. It just re-inforced my love of my own IS220D. My Wife and two grown up boys love the car too. So glad you love the machine. Col <[:o)
  11. Matus, firstly. Thanks for adding me as a friend. You are correct that Lexus haven't really moved on, but, they must be comfortable with their range, which may not be a good approach. As I don't intend spending more money now that I am retired. I just have to remain happy with my 220D. I do respect your views, and what you say in the main is true. Best wishes Col .
  12. Matus, I just have to reply to this... Most of what you say I do respect, but, this time, I do have an issue. I know you have you're own personal view of the IS220D, but, it makes me unhappy to read this comment which brings down the Lexus brand, in particular in the UK. The IS220D is a perfectly good car with some minor points of frustration, which, you will find with any car. This even comparing BMW etc, which, I have drivem and found less enjoyable than the Lexus IS220D. I prefer constructive comments rather than destructive. Yes, I have had a few problems with my 220D, but, they have all been resolveable. It is an extremely comfortable and veyr reliable car, and is a pleasure to drive once you know and learn how to drive it. Please, do not destroy this brand further. It outclasses many many other brands and has a lot of extras as standard, that you have to pay extra for in other brands. Regards Col... the truth is, that lexus is sleeping. I don't know why. Look at the GS and compare it with e-class, a6 or 5er....GS looks like a historial piece. And IS? Soon will be replaced, and 220d engine has not had almost any change since it is on the market. I don't know why... 320d has had major change in the engine already 2 years ago. Pursuit for perfection has become not pursuit, but reverse? on the other end - UK market is probably not important enough for lexus. In europe nowadays you buy IS with gearbox ratios set between standard (long) one and sport one - ratios almost as on 320d (which are very good). And IS200d? I am still knocking on my head who came with this stupid idea.
  13. This is really bad mpg. Have you really cleaned the EGR properly??? Is the air filter clogged?? I used to have bad mileage like this, but my Lexus dealer cleaned/cleans the EGR valve during services. I have the latest ECU flash too. My last run at the weekend with varied driving over 400 miles was 48.2 MPG. Not grandad driving just plain ordinary good sense driving technique. I hope you get it sorted coz fuel is too bloomin expensive as it is. Good Luck. Col.. <[:o)
  14. Only noticed slightly better mpg. (3mpg approx). Had K&N filters vefore and they are really good. Yes they do get dirty but easy to clean and re-lube. As Isaid, my local Lexus garage is great and does this for me. No complaints from many of my friends and colleagues who use them, so I still recommend them in a big way. Col
  15. yep, but that's no problem. My Lexus dealer does it as part of the service. col
  16. £41.78 delivered for K&N filter for IS220D from "Performance Filters"... Col...
  17. Used K&N on my IS200 sport. Bloomin brilliant, and you never have to buy a new one again. Going to get one for my IS220D soon. Well worth the money. Col... <[;o)
  18. It's not what you say... but.. how you say it! There's an old saying.. "If you can't say anything good, then just don't say it!". Or in Scotland " Haud yer wheesht!!). Col..
  19. I agree with Matus re' the whinging on this forum about the 220D in particular. I used to enjoy the IS200 forum immensely, and made a lot of good friendly, positive contacts on there. Here, like Matus, I tend to just visit when I see something of interest (positive). Carl is also correct when he says that Lexus are not the only ones with problems. I have heard horrendous stories about mercs and beamers. It all boils down to personal preference, and, I prefer Lexus over all other prestige badges. All Toyotas and Lexus I have ever owned have had wee problems, which have always been dealt with by the dealer/franchise more than satisfactorily. It's no secret that when manufacturers have target dates for model launches, they stick to that date rigidly, unless there is a "show stopper" which prevents the launch. So what you get is a compromise where the manufacture releases the new model with some imperfections that can be dealt with later. (after you buy)... That's what warrranty and recalls are for. So for me, I just accept that any car I buy may not be perfect, but unless totally pee'd off with the manufacturer, I stick to the brand I know. Said it before... "stop whinging", and stick together with positive questions and solutions from those that know here on the forum. (I'm off the soap box now!!! pheeeeew).... Col <[;o) yeah, finally. that is the reason, why I come to this forum rarely - people just whinge all the time. They do not test the car before buying and complain about things, which are their fault at first place. Second group are people buying cheap secon-hand cars and then complain that it consumps 2 litres more than their previous clio.. :duh:
  20. Thank goodness for someone who feels the same as me. I've had a few niggles, but, all sorted, and, I love my 220D to bits. Col
  21. It's great to see sensible information being passed on by knowledgable members who are also obviousily good drivers too. I must say I am so happy with my IS220D. Col.
  22. Wow, What a great amount of effort you've put in on this my friend. It is a great guide and will improve invaluable to most I'm sure. Thanks a lot, I'll continue to use the tips. Col
  23. Mine are Bridgestone Turanza ER300 , 255/55R16. HAve them filled with nitrogen as it is less dense than air and doesn't lose pressure as quickly as air does. I'm told that this is also good for improving fuel consumption, although I have no clue why??? Tango is right about Toyo's, they are great tyres and I have them on my Wife's car, but they tens to wear quicker as they are made of a softer rubber compound. Col <[;o)
