  1. What a coincidence mate. I had the same thing and it turned out to be the Flywheel. I took my 220D back to the local Lexus dealer for investigation. 1st time they replaced the clutch release bearing, but that didn't cure it completely, so they took it back and replaced the flywheel which has completely cured it. All done under warranty with no quibble and excellent service. Hope this helps. Col..
  2. Welocme mate. You've made a wonderful choice in buying an IS220D. Wishing you many miles of comfortable and enjoyable driving... (pay no attention to the negative posts, there are many more positives which outweigh them).. Col
  3. The 220D is not a bad car, but there are better diesels from manufacturers who have pursued diesels further - Lexus appear to have given up. It attracts negative comments and technical niggles like no other Lexus. Perhaps this is because of comparisons to their superb petrol cars - particularly those with auto transmission. So maybe an auto diesel would have been a good idea - masking the inherent limited rev range etc; but is impossible with current Lexus auto boxes which are closely integrated with engine management and require reasonably speedy response from the power unit which diesels cannot deliver. Lexus show no sign of developing an auto box just for diesels. All in all, the 220d is damned by faint praise, and in a poll to decide Lexus's best car is going to come at the bottom. Yet again, another uneccessary Knock on the 220D. Lexus Diesel is an advanced engine, granted, maybe not quite as good as Beamers or Mercs. To put you remind at rest, Lexus have NO immediate plans to stop the manufacture or sale of the current IS-220D range. Lexus have sold a great amount of these models, and having friends who own one, they are of the same mindset as the facts indicate. " A great car with some niggles". Lexus are fully aware of these niggles, and have fixes for all. I do know that where Lexus future lies is in "hybrids" hence the launch of the CT200h in October this year. Shooting from the hip all the time at the IS200D doesn't help people in deciding whether to buy or not to buy. I have become quite friendly with our local Lexus dealership over the years, and, they are quite candid about choice. If you want petrol, then buy petrol, if you want diesel, buy diesel. Once again, there are a lot worse cars you could consider buying. Col...
  4. No receipt as Parthiban says, Bona Fide Lexus dealers hold all car servicing, repair and warranty details on their system. You do however get receipts for service and paid work. Col..
  5. I too was like you mate. I thought I'd bought a bum model in the IS220D, but, I was wrong. I still sing the diesels praises. Like Matus says, if you keep the revs very low in diesels, the EGR valve can get clogged. I'm wasting too much time and energy in defence of the IS220D, so all I'll say it is your choice. There were lots who consoled me on this forum and changed my opinion, so good luck with your decision. Col...
  6. Cheers for that Col. All new cars have various anomalies like you describe, of various degrees. I`ve only once ever bought a brand new car and had more trouble with that, than any other. I`d expect though, as a 4 year old car would have these niggles sorted. I was looking for some advice on any mechanical worries I should be looking for on a 50k mile model. Does anything need to be changed out at around this sort of mileage? (I know my original post says 60k but it`s actually 50k miles) I`m quite happy to compromise a bit of fuel consumption over luxury. I don`t do excessive miles anyway and also have my Supra for the weekends I`ve also to look at an Accord which boasts 60mpg or so but I know which car I`ll be buying if the Lexus is a 'straight' car. I like toys No prob's mate. I've barely done 30K on my late 2007 220D so don't know much about the bigger milage ones, but one thing to remember is that it's a diesel, and, it'll go for ever if looked after. I used to live in Kinghorn which is a wee spit away from Kirkcaldy... lol col...
  7. Hi mate. I'm one of the loyal brand followers of Lexus, so, here is my two-penneth.. I'm getting fed up with those who continually knock the IS220D. Yes there are some small problems, all which are resolvable under warranty if your lucky enough to have one which is still running. I've had the minor problem of squeaky seat, dashboard crack, drivers door rattle and a small clutch problem All have been dealt with in an excellent and trouble free manner by our local Aberdeen Lexus dealer. Fuel consumption in my humble opinion is very good for a car of that size and weight. (40-48mpg and as much as 52mpg on a long motorway run). It is a prestigous car with looks wonderful and has extras that bits and pieces that other so called similar badged models have. I love my 220D as did I my IS200 sport, so, my advice is... forget the continual moans (which are few and far between compared to some other models) and be assured your getting a wonderful machine. ( I do respect others opinions, but just feel there are too many negatives about a car which is really great).... Col
  8. Bloomin gorgeus mate. Lovely beast.... Col
  9. Assume the Lexus Approved dealer put the analyser on? Did it show any fault codes? Could be a turbo problem but would expect it across all gears??? Take it back again mate.. Col

    220D

Welcome to LOC mate. I love my 220D. Fuel economy for me on most tanks is averaging around 46MPG which is a shed load better than my beautiful IS200 sport. Had a few niggles and most recent is poor gear change between 1st and 2nd and a grinding/graunching noise like a loose cog or synchromesh problem. It's going in to Lexus on Wednesday this week for a two day check. Already had a new clutch under warranty and no quibbles. Overall, I think the 220D is cracking car. Lovely to drive and so comfortable with toys you don't get standard on other cars in it's class. Enjoy your car mate. Col
  11. I traded in my late 2001 IS200 against a late 2007 IS220D. As my IS200 was in pristine condition, I got a cracking price, and it sold on the forecourt a week later. (whoever got it got a cracking car!). My IS220D is wonderful. It's a different drive altogether, and yes Ihave experienced the very minor niggles that are listed. My local Lexus dealership fixed all the problems, very quickly, no quibble under warranty, and with great Customer Focus. Yes there are some who escalate these problems to an order of magnitude which can be worrying, but IMHO, they are minor, and I think you'll find that almost every make model has niggles of some sort. I think you should go ahead, and am confident you'll be happy. As far as MPG is concerned, I get between 38MPG and 49 MPG, and that is under normal driving conditions and not driving like a pensioner. Col...
  12. Welcome mate. Hasn't been a meet in Aberdeen for a long time. Col..
  13. Welcome mate, this is a great forum with loads of great advice and tips. ENjoy your Lexy, it is truly a wonderful beasty. Col..
  14. If you're getting flames coming out of your exhaust, you have a big problem. In an untuned car the flames are caused by unburnt petrol/fumes entering a very hot exhaust and igniting in the exhaust itself. IMHO, take it to a lexus garage right away. Col...
  15. Yep... 1) You almost never if ever have to change it out, so reduced service costs. 2) You get more air flow through the K&N filter which gives a cleaner fuel burn and can add a wee bit to fuel efficiency and smooth running. Col
  16. Why'd'you want auto park m8.. is it for the wife????? lol. Col yes only the lastest LS I think its only the LS that has the auto park system.
  17. If you've got the full set of service history record and receipts for all work carried out, you'll more than likely be OK m8. What you could do is invest in a few quid for an AA check to make sure nothing is untoward. 100K+ is not att all bad on modern cars, especially of the Lexus pedigree. Should go round the clock twice with no problems as long as you look after it. If it were me, and the price was right, and had all the checks done, then I'd buy it. Col..
  18. OMG....! Are you still within the cooling off period after purchasing this at the auction?. If so, take the car back or don't accept it. You're on thin ice here mate. I've been to auctions where thet have sold real lemons, but, buying a car, especially a Lexus without driving it, hearing the engine run, checking accessories blah de blah is just plain chancy at the least. My advice, don't waste your time, just take it back if you can. Col Sorry, read the other threads properly..... I withdraw my comments. Good luck with this. Col

  20. Amplifier "Clipping" only causes distorted sound. It waon't cause cut out. This sounds very much like a heat related problem. One of the componenets is not performing above a certain temperature, probably on the output/drive stage of the amp', or the power supply/regualtor is faulty. If it were a fuse blown, it would stay blown and the amp' would be completely dead and not power up again. Suggest a visit to the dealer as this is a repair/replace job. Col.. (Electronics Engineer)
  21. Dashboard "crack" is a known fault and can be repaired under warranty. I got mine fixed. Best mpg I have had is 47.2 mpg, and that was just driving normally. My overall is 39.5 to 41.8. Also had 562 miles on a tank of diesel. (not on the "R" indication). Col...
  22. Welcome to LOC m8. I am extatic with my 220D. I changed from an IS200 sport which I also loved. Lexus is a premium brand, and despite some of the moans and groans on here, they are a truly wonderful car. Having had a plethora od different cars over the years, BMW, Volvo etc, I can honestly say my own personal experience with Lexus's has been wonderful. Yes, be happy that you have a great car that shines on refinement, reliability and individuality. Col
  23. Hi and welcome to the Forum.... I'm just South of Aberdeen. Col..
  24. Fifth Gear on the telly did a pretty good evaluation on Super fuels. Bottom line was that if you've got a bog standard little vroomy, then there is little or no benefit in paying outthe extra dosh. However, with the turbo/supercharged cars, the there was an imnprovement not only in power (marginal), but economy. The detergents in the super fule do keep the engine cleaner, and if you are keeping your car for a while, then there is some benefit in using the more expensive stuff. It' s down to choice at he end of the day. For me, I use the super stuff coz it makes me feel better... lol Col
  25. Hi Ben, I have an 2008 IS220D. Contrary to the odd horror story associated with the diesel, I am totally in love with mine. You will find on the forum that there are some who are panicky and post rather strong words against the IS220, and, it threw me in to an anxiety attack when I read these posts. I thought I'd made the biggest mistake in my life buying another Lexus, but, I am very happy to say that "the problems" are fully fixed with mine and I look forward to many years of comfort and luxury. I bought my 1st Lexus IS200 sport because of the individuality of the car, the timeless shape, comfort, reliability and many other things that Beamers, Audi's and Merc's just don't have. Based on that, I changed up to the 220D for the same reasons. It just blows the other competitors out of the water as far as we are concerned. When I go out in the morning and see my car, I just beam with pride and love for it. The shape is amazing and the drive, although different from the 200 sport is unbelievably good. All in, Lexus is a brand to stick with, especially if you also have a great local Lexus dealer which I have in Aberdeen. There is a real sense of being yourself in these cars, and, not just running with the pack. Enjoy your car mate, you'll be very happy with the decision you've made. Oh, and a huge welcome to the club... Gold Member next?????? lol Col
