  1. The wonders of a service plan with the supplying dealer - such minor irritants are usually dealt with without charge.
  2. Why do you need to clutter the windows with anything but the tax disc and the Lexus emergency number which is discretely in the top of the windscreen when new? Looks very untidy to me and I even refuse to allow the dealer to put his advertisement on the rear window - quite amusing to watch a dealer principle removing it at collection!
  3. The email is enough. It really should be for him to evidence - the dealer has no duty to speak to you at all.
  4. Oh dear! Misrepresentation it would seem: Do you have it in writing that the belt was done? If not you maybe down to one man's word against another. I am assuming that this was a private purchase not via a dealer so you may well be in some difficulties and have to have recourse to the Courts - if the evidence is any good. Don't worry about the dealer chain, your recourse is solely against your vendor, he may pass the compliment on if he can but that is his concern not yours.
  5. Parts can be sourced from all over the world - but does it matter?
  6. That is a key point which people tend not to think of when buying older examples: the capital cost is affordable, maintenance can be more of a challenge. That said these cars are extremely reliable.
  7. This has been scarcely veiled knowledge for years. A date at last.
  8. You are panicking/wprrying about aspects of the cars for no good reason. There is no suggestion that Lexus/Toyota will not stand by what is now one of their key lines, hybrid and they also stand by their cars generally for a long time. Dealer support remains good with adequate knowledge to assist you and will surely continue.
  9. Are you really expecting it to corrode - we never read of problems with even the oldest Mark 1s..........
  10. Engine braking UPHILL? If it has a full Lexus SH, can I assume that the recall would have been done by them, if necessary? No, just downhill, you don't use a brake going uphill - it is a very useful feature and considerably increases brake pad life. The cars involved were recalled but you should check that the one you intend to buy was actually done (if relevant), some owners may just have failed to present their car for the work.
  11. So CJHYBRID's suggestion that there is an "extra cubby underneath the vent" is wrong and for whatever reason the LHD car (at least some) has a a cover not fitted to RHD vehicles?
  12. Nope - the mirror adjustment buttons are bellow the beige cover. The black one under the vent is the cupholder. Then those are different to the UK version.
  13. The thing under the vent is a retractable cupholder. The switch for the tailgate is under the glovebox door. It is the switches to adjust the mirrors that are missing on this variant.
  14. Seems a little suspicion hangs over the car, unusual selection of issues.
  15. To better judge the car, how much/little did you pay for it and how many miles has it done?
  16. Strangley I have now covered 73,000 miles in my RX400H from new without this problem at all. I would come back to kerns, pot holes and speed cushions.
  17. The perhaps spend a little of your saving on going to a dealer. You might also be advised to have him inspect it as it does seem to have an unusual number of irritating faults which is far from normal with these cars.
  18. Presumably you bought it from a private vendor with the faults not a dealer?
  19. I have to say that I have had Bridgestone Potenza on both my RX300 and my RX400 with very good results and decent lives. The certainly do not trouble me in the wet (either car) or seem noisy. I suspect that you will find varying views particularly on ride and noise , none of which are wrong. 'Grip'/road holding will also depend on driving style and even road conditions as much as anything.
  20. Space for the compressor was the reason given to me.
  21. I am open to correction but I would suggest Whatcar is wrong - My RX300 SEL had air suspension and the answer was "not available" when I ordered my RX400. I would suggest asking the vendor what it has - that will answer the question beyond any doubt.
  22. I have to say that having read this thread I looked for the glare complained of and could not find it. Having driven Mark 2 RXs since 2005 (RX300 and now RX400, each since new so I am aware how the dash board has been cleaned etc) the issue has never troubled me. I go with TJB - the rag-like piece of cloth looks awful.
  23. TJB is absolutely right, if you really need to fret about the last 2/3 mpg in use then you have bought the wrong car. It is big, heavy, powerful and that has a significant bearing on consumption and it is totally predictable. Mine varies from 27-30 depending upon the weather, the type of roads and and how I need to drive but that consumption is quite irrelevant beside the pleasure of owning and using it over the last 75,000 miles from new.
