  1. ah ha, thats a good idea. Thanks, will give that a go. I sprayed all the bushes I could see with Silicon spray the other day after reading that might help, but it had no affect. Would I have to disassemble this area to give it a proper grease up then? Is this section covered in the service manual at all? Just wondering which ones are the D bushes?
  2. Quick update. I re-connected the battery this morning after being disconnected overnight, and (touch wood) all seems back to normal. So, the question now is, has anyone heard of the usual water leak issue in the drivers footwell causing alarm/locking issues over and above the usual headlights remaining on problem that is usually the case? Or, could this type of problem be a failing main battery? The voltage reads ok, but then my drive to work is really short. This morning it was reading high, but that could have been due to low load overnight and lower temps.
  3. Just out of interest - who did you use in South London and what was the cost? I need to have mine done soon really.
  4. get new ones from www.buypartsby.co.uk. They are the cheapest around and sell the OE KYB shocks which are the same as the Lexus originals.
  5. Yeah I had that issue a few years ago after the windscreen was replaced. Common problem it seemed. Causes the headlights to remain on - I was lucky in that I managed to sort it easily by just drying out a connector and the boards etc - though others haven't been so lucky and have had to buy a whole new relay board etc!! Hopefully, what with the wealth of knowledge that there is on here, someone will be able to point to the causes!! Cheers.
  6. Grrrrrrr. Came out of work today and pressed keyfob to unlock the car - nothing happened. So pressed again, again, nothing happened. So pressed lock - nothing, unlock, the after about 5 secs the lights flashed and car unlocked. So, I thought, maybe some interference - so got in and alarm went off. Went to put key in ignition and start car - which should usually turn the alarm off - and that didn't work! So, got out, locked in all (which took a few presses as didn't seem to recognise it) and tried it all again, but had the same problem. Eventually, I started the car (alarm still sounding) waited for the alarm to stop then drove home. Also noticed that the fuel gauge wasn't working, nor was the economy gauge (everything else was though), and the outside temp wasn't on - plus next to where that was was an "E" displayed but no error code number - just the time. Got home and tried to have a good look around each kick panel checking every plug was in properly. Also checked all the fused including the ones in the engine bay. All seems OK. But also noticed that now, the "door open" symbol on the dash is lit and won't go out. This wasn't on previously so have no idea whats happened there. I would be EXTREMELY grateful if anyone could shed any light on what could be the issue. I am thinking maybe some alarm or locking ECU or something, but am not sure. The last thing I need is a massive bill cos I have just been made redundant, so need to find the fault as cheaply as possible really!! Currently, I have disconnected the battery and will leave it like that overnight in an attempt to try to reset the ECUs to see if that helps. As much as I love the IS, its now starting to get things go wrong and its doing my head in.
  7. Slight update. I got under the car the other day and everything looks fine. The shocks are dry and the springs look fine and are seated ok. The only thing I could think of is that either a rubber bush is knackered or its one of the bolts that go through the wishbone or where the shocks mount on the wishbone or something similar. The sound is a little like a metal grating/squeak/creaking. Like when you see old cars a "rocking" with a little extra carricular fun!! Is it possible to replace all the bushes yourself or are they a pain with pressing them in/out etc? Someone must have had a similar issue surely?
  8. Hi All, Been away from the forum for a while for various reasons, but need your help! I just noticed today, that there is this finny creaking noise from the rear of my car. I think it is coming from the suspension, but when driving it sounds like either that or loose exhaust/baffles or some plastic thing flapping around/scraping on something. When I parked up with handbrake on, I pressed down on the rear of the car and there is a mad creaking coming from the rear. When driving in reverse though I also noticed it sounded more like a rubber creaking like a rubber cone/bush being dry and rubbing on metal when things turned! Has anyone had any similar issues or know what it could be? I did change the shocks around 1.5 yrs ago and mileage since then has been low. They were for orig KYB shocks which I htink are gas and oil filled. I would be annoyed if it were these that have gone so quickly!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  9. As well as the pin there should be an anti rattle spring but that slides under the pin and into the 2 tops holes of the pads when inserted. This will stop your rattle - they are probably moving around a fair old bit without this!
  10. I have an '01 X-reg IS200 with the 13903 headunit (CD player at the top - type C). The other month it wouldn't pick a disc up properly which then results in it saying there is not a disc in that slot - when there actually is, so I then had to take the unit out, and open it up to get the disc out! Pain. What actually happens is the disc end up sitting on top of the one below as it doesn get pushed back into the carrier slot far enough! Firstly - does anyone know how to fix that problem? Secondly - it would appear that when I put the top cover back on the unit, I must have caught the flexi cable thats at the rear right of the unit (looking top down) and its sliced it a bit, breaking some of the connections. I now have no CD unit operation at all - i.e. when I press load, nothing happens - there are also no discs in the unit. Radio etc all works fine though. So, does anyone know where you can get spares for this unit (details are below) or would it just be easier to try to get one from a scrappie? I don't actually need a working player, just the right model to take this flexi/FFC cable from - so does anyone have a broken unit they no longer need? Unit is a Fujitsu Ten 122000-27900101, 13903 model, Manufacturered June 2000, Type C unit with CD player at the top. Also says, Toyota 86120-53041, serial no. A8400699.
  11. if brakes are spongy then could be air in the system or more likely the fluid needs changing!
  12. You will need to take the caliper off to get the discs off. There are 2x 17mm(I think) bolts on the rear of the caliper that you need to take off to remove it. Then the disc may just come straight off. If not then this is when you have to back off the little wheel thing for the handbrake. Be warned - if you are putting back on Lexus discs, then will most probably rub against the back plate - the handbrake shoe mounting plate. Personnaly I just just it to wear itself in but supposedly you can knock the plate back a bit with a hammer - or failing that grind it back a bit!! Nice eh - good old Lexus!
  13. Sounds like the clutch release bearing need replacing. They can screech like that. Bit like a fanbelt noise but worse! Not heard it being the flywheel, but at least the bearing is cheaper! However, you may as well replace the clutch too if taking it all apart to change the bearing! That then puts the cost up!
  14. I have always found the "tappets" to be a little noisey on the IS. Not quite smoothy silk, but not excessively noisey like an old car either.
  15. I refurbished mine a while back by freeing up, cleaning, new pins/dust boots etc and just over a year later one slider siezed again. Personally, its cheaper and easier to buy new (refurbished) calipers and fit those. I got one from Brakes International (last in the UK I think) and its fine. New seals etc costs nearly £70 and if you need a piston then thats another £20 too! Caliper was £78 or something.
  16. OEM ones are KYB! I think its the Super G ones you need - do a search for KYB rear shocks or something and there should be plenty of posts. I changed my rears and not had any problems. Got from those people too and are the cheapest around. Good reliable source too. There is a knowledge base artical on fitting too somewhere.
  17. I can't really see how you would be able to hammer the shoe mounting plate much to move it! Dust cover thingy fair enough as that moves a fair amount, but the mouting plate is fairly stiff and solidly mounted. Though in saying that, I guess you don't need to move it much! Anyway, I just left it and it seems a lot better. NS still rubs a tad, but will go after a while. Just think its a bit poor that OEM parts no longer fit properly! Typical.
  18. Well hopefully it would take the auto box from the new IS and not the old one. The new box is nice, whereas the old one is arcaic!
  19. I presume that you only got the boing once and haven't had it again - if so then it was probably the spring re-seating itself. Maybe it wasn't seated properly when you changed it and it shifted slightly. That would make a loud sound! Or maybe now you have a small stone or something in the system somewhere? I presume the shocks are all sealed so if you drive them through deep water that wouldn't affect them??
  20. Maxi Cosi Cabrio too. Best seat you can buy for the first one. By far the safest.
  21. Can you give more details? Where are these 2 plates you mention?
  22. Just spoke with Lexus Swindon, seems that maybe Lexus have consolodated parts as I think the new number ends in a 11. Which means that maybe the tolerance for the IS200 are slightly out, hence the rubbing. The old part (ending 01) probably fit perfectly! When you look at the Toyo parts listing, there are several discs shown to fit the IS200, and I bet you cannot buy all of them any more. He advised just to angle grind the shoe mounting plate back a little! Nice - good old lexus quality then eh!
  23. ahh. I only stripped mine down to your last picture!! Interestingly, your images and arrows show exactly the same problem I am seeing - i.e. the shoe mounting plate is scraping the back of the disc. Has anyone managed to find out why this is and how to rectify it? Or is brute force (by wacking the back plate) or living with it until it wears the only option?
  24. It does seem common on Lexus's that the bolts etc all seem to rust fairly quickly - don't get that on a merc!!
  25. if you can access Toyo DIY through a server outside of the UK then you can still see the images on their site!! At least it works for me at our work - who's server goes through a proxy in Germany!
