  1. hi, dave.g. i am also in a simialar postion to yourself, i have been kicking tyres for so long that i have got very sore toes.... i have driven the 220 d only last week for a few hours, after which i was left feeling somewhat empty, yes it is a very nice car but this diesel does not quiet do it for me. let me explain i used to drive a 2 yr. old A4TDI. which has an awesome engine by which i mean it pulls like a train,in any gear and feels like a missile, which the lex simply does not do..shame about the build quality and constant problems, hence me looking at lexus.... there a few threads on this forum which seem to suggest the diesel although good is not at the top of the class yet.and owners seem divided those who have the diesel seem to have wished for the petrol and vise versa.. pays your money takes your chance..the perfect car has not yet been built...i have made enough made choices in the past.. i do intend on trying the petrol in the near future,i did try it a while ago but we had the sales guy in with us (not quiet the same ).so a further test drive is on order...will keep you posted . ps whilst in the 220 the rear view mirror was vibrating and we heard two very loud crack like noises coming from the middle dash area..this was a base 220 on an 07 plate 2.500 miles on the clock.. regards mickey.j.
  2. hi all. i am still on the dealer visitng rota in my search for my dream car the IS, either the petrol or diesel not decided either way yet. tyre kicking is still the order of the day. anyhow whislt on the interweb i came across the MOTORHOUSE web site and i see they have seven 06 plate IS220 Diesels up for sale all with under 20 k on the clock. in various colours.metalics. the prices range from £15999 tp £17999. which is a lot lower than our local lex dealers. does anyone have any knowledge as to why the lowewr prices and is MOTORHOUSE the supermarket based in cannock staffordshire up to the job. ps i know jambo has a few issues with his diesel. but i do like how the diesel pulls like a kid in a sweet shop.. regards mickey.j.
  3. sorry guys, i told you that IS test drive had me confused,i have posted this before but i thought i had put it in the sportscross section in error. am i realy stupid. well spoted. mickey.j.
  4. hi fellow IS owners. Oh dear me, i have just returned having test driven the IS250 manual,to say i was dissapointed is a slight understatement. firstly i was having to think about letting up the clutch when setting off as it had a tendancy to hesitate. i did think it could be my driving so we had a goood few miles on the test drive but it was still jerky. is this a trait of this gearbox, dont like autos. other than the jerky box, i loved the car lots of nice touches.and it felt like a quality piece of kit. i am very angry as i really wanted to like the car which i still do, i am curently driving a 2 yr. old avensis manual petrol and this is super smoooth.but am at the time in my life when a bit of luxury is called for. the one we drove was 12 months old and was up for £18500. 55 plate.which is a big saving over the new price.4500 miles on the clock, but it had the light cream cloth interior, which i can see as being totally impossible to keep clean. we will try another IS250 to see if it was just a one off. one last query is there going to be much room for movement on this price as i do like a bit of a haggle. oh one last point i did not hear any of the rattles mentioned on the forum, must have been so engrossed intrying not to stall the thing. regards mickey.j.
  5. greetings fellow IS owners. Dear oh dear, i have just returned having test driven my dream car the IS 250 manual. i have a few problems with this car, i currently drive the toyota avensis, yes boring i hear you say. however the IS was not much better in its driving smootheness over my avensis. yes it was much faster but i was finding myself having to think about letting the clucth out so as not to lurch forward. the test car was a bit hesistant in moving off from stand still. also the gear box felt very heavy and dare i say agrictural. all in all i am now some what dissapointed as i was about to place the order for the IS. we did drive it for a good few miles. i guess its back to the drawing board for me. any comments or thoughts most gratefully accepted as i am still in shock. dissapointed mickey.j.
  6. Thanks for all the replys Eunos800 sorry to see you are having problems hope you get it sorted soon LEXBOY. I too am in the process of trawling many dealers to find my next motor,i once owned a 05 plate audi a4 in black,oh my goodness what a mistake that was. let me explain, black looks the buisness in a showroom all polished an all. but the moment it sees any sort of bad weather it looks dreadful, every single mark scar and blemish shows up like a sore thumb. i can remember thersalesman,` yes sir black is the new silver.`dont think so. having said that its all down to personal choice,it will look the buisness but be prepared for many a days cleaning. i see that you are in staffs like myself. i have seen an is250 at lexus stoke which i will be testing soon, how were the dealers and are they fair with part ex.prices, silly question i know. enjoy the motor which colour you choose. mickey.j.
  7. hello IS owners. i have just returned from my local lexus centre having sat in and been mighty impressed with the new IS250. having previously owned a 2005 A4. which was a total nightmare as far as reliabilty goes, headlights with water inside constant misfire,oh and a dealer with the attitude of a hores thief.not good for a car costing the wrong side of £22,000. this was quickly sold and my current toyota avensis bought to replace the A4. yes i know its not in the same leauge.still its been mighty reliable. i ma now getting sick of being mistaken for a taxi. :duh: i am hoping if any IS owners could offer any advice on test drives and what to loook out for if anything. the models i am looking at our the 2006, 250 petrol and if the budget will stretch maybe a 220 diesel. there does seem to be a big variance in dealer prices for these models having searched the lexus dealers used car site.about £1200 in some cases does anyone know why this is. many thanks mickey.j. :)
