  1. Well i could take it no longer and have sold my 220d. The problems i had and the locking problems in particular and the very poor mpg in my opinion is very poor for Lexus i have now bought a Honda civic Type r which returns more mpg around town than the lex and have had no problems at all as yet unlike the lex. I wish you all the best with your dilemas and hope you see sense in the end best regards Neo...
  2. You will have to go the trial and error route im afraid as i did. You should try as many seats as possible to get the best fit (halfords are good for try before you buy) but i use a car blanket that has been rolled up on one end to raise the rear of the child seat up and leave the rest to dangle over the seat as this protects the leather or the posh stuff they use in the sport model. Just make sure you follow the fitting instructions of the seat and all should be well as the rolled up blanket is just like extra seat padding and will compress as such. isofix are ok but not really any better than standard seats. will you be removing the seat very much etc. good luck
  3. If you all learn how to drive while keeping the turbo spooled up there is no lag in the turbo at all and this makes the 220 faster than the 250 for sure. As i have said no 250 has beaten me yet from a standing or rolling position. The engine hasn't even been re-mapped or anything just standard, v6 boys just empty their wallets faster thats all.
  4. Jamboo is correct, Give the car plenty of revs when pulling off about 2000rpm i was told by lexus GB this gets the turbo spooled up and you can set off like a rocket. And yes i have left many a is250 choking on my diesel fumes nobody has managed to catch up with me as yet. Oh and get used to the mirror it can not be fixed as the windscreen is designed to soak up the vibrations from other areas of the car. Thats why they are so quiet. My average mpg is about 35mpg city driving but i use the shell v-power diesel fuel and magnatec engine oil :D .
  5. Carlack 68 is the best that money can buy and is priced at around £12 (just do a google search) and im sure that many would agree. you just wipe it on sparingly with a microfibre cloth complete the car have a break for half an hour and then wipe off, no real effort involved, repeat the process after a week or two then apply a coat of p21s wax a week later. No better shine and protection can be had and this WILL protect your baby from bird lime. I also carry in the boot a bottle of quick detailer and a microfibre pad or cloth to remove the offending article asap, hope this helps :winky:
  6. Glad you like the carlack GJD its the dogs nuts, just a quickie note for you to give the second coat of AIO a week or so before you add the p21s, the carlack needs time to bond properly to the car you will just undo your work when you buff up the p21s and it does take some buffing especially if you let it dry too much. Good look though im sure you will be wrll pleased with the results when your finished. B)
  7. Now that you mention it i was told that the engineer must have filed my report away by mistake and that it would be posted to me. Still no report after a week, all they gave me was the bill listing oil filter, washer fluid, clean air filter, engine flush and labour, £310 pounds and they also fixed an oil leak on the front of the engine and did the 5th injector and ECU nice chaps. I always thought that the coolant was pumped around the engine to keep it cool and if the level was low the fluid would become much hotter faster as there was not enough volume of fluid to do the job that the correct level of coolant would. Also on the off chance that anyone would know what is the minimum thickness that the brake disks should be replaced as mine are very worn but was told that they were fine and would like to check them myself.
  8. Hi guys and girls. Just had the 220d serviced 20k (wont say where as i know this can take over threads) on return of car i like to have a check around. I noticed that the coolant level (pink liquid) on the expansion bottle is way below the low level marker and half way down the fill tube level. Also removed the air filter and absolutely filthy and full of leaves dirt etc, also charged 89p for washer fluid top up and low and behold no top up. Also charged £40 for a clean air filter (the one in the glove box) has this been changed ? who knows. Gave them a call and was told engineer signed the job sheet so all must be ok. Then why have fill levels? please enlighten me my brothers and sisters as i must be stupid. After voicing my concern over the coolant level was told has been signed off and test driven all OK but if i am worried feel free to PURCHASE some fluid from Toyota. OK i thought made the call to check availability but Toyota only make the pink fluid in 5 litre bottles and coolant cannot be mixed £27 plus VAT. We also dont touch the air panel filter until it is changed at 40k Happy puppy not, thinking of trading car in for something better most definitely. If anyone can tell me if the is250 panel filter will fit in the is220d that would also help as i want to upgrade :megaangry: :tsktsk:
  9. Sorry no i mean the filter in the engine bay, its a panel filter in the large black box on the engine air intake. behind the drivers side headlight.
  10. Sorry no i mean the filter in the engine bay, its a panel filter in the large black box on the engine air intake. behind the drivers side headlight.
  11. Hi Guys Does anybody know if the is250 panel air filter will fit in the is220d. Thinking of fitting upgraded filter but all are advertised as 250 filters. Any help appreciated.
  12. if you read the service warranty booklet in your folder perforation of bodywork is covered but paint chips scratches etc are not, even when it happens using a microfibre cloth when washing, A real pain this paint just use plenty of good wax etc and hope for the best like the rest of us i think. Good luck...
  13. Hi and welcome Jamboo is correct on the products as i use the very same stuff and it is amazing the shine that you get. Put the wax on about a week after the second coat of carlack to give it time to bond to the paint. Also NEVER EVER use a sponge use a Lambswool mitt for washing and you should see a lot less swirl marks etc on your paintwork, as it tends to scratch very easily. Also use a conditioning shampoo for washing, i use the P21 stuff it works well, but there are others. PS try and stay away from high street products as they do not work anyware near as well as the products mentioned and can strip away all your hard work. Also if you have leather try searching the net for Gliptone leather care products they also are amazing. Oh yes and good luck...
  14. Hi Tango Have you tried the Flash car cleaning system from Halfords, it has a gun to fix on the end of the hose pipe that holds the Flash shampoo and a de-ioniser cartridge for the rinsing, the results are amazing. You don't even need to dry the car if you don't want to. costs around £20 i think. if you don't like the old fashioned way this product is fab. :winky:
  15. With 2 kids and all accompaniments see what you can fit in the boot clever clogs :P
  16. Hi guys found out how to turn off the bleeping sound for seatbelt warning if you put heavy items shopping etc on the front seat. 1 Ensure that the trip computer says ODO then the total mileage in the display. 2 Turn off the ignition or display using the start stop button. 3 Ready the seatbelt in one hand ready for insertion into the holder and then press the start button 2 times so that the display begins to light up. 4 Before the display is properly lit and system check has initialised press in and hold in for 30 slow seconds the trip display button. ODO should still be in the display, if not start the procedure again as if a or b is displayed it does not work. 5 After 30 seconds with the button still pressed in insert the seatbelt into the holder and then, release the trip display button, the display should now show a/on or b/off. just press the trip button to change the on off to whatever you wish then unbuckle the seatbelt. if you selected off the bleep should no longer be an annoying problem. 6 Turn off the car using the start button then take her for a spin to check if it worked it did on mine 2006 is220d se. PS the seatbelt light still lights to warn if passengers are not wearing their seatbelts good luck... :winky:
  17. Have the sensors fitted to the rear from lexus from new 06 220d SE, was told the fronts would be major pain to fit and very very expensive so didn't bother as they wouldn't even give me a price. Jamboo is correct that you can only fit the beeping variety aftermarket from lexus and there is no visual aid whatsoever on any model is, due to wiring etc. also i think the fronts may have trouble up close in the number plate area due to the spread of the sensor zones that's why the rear has 4. the fronts just prevent the corners of the bumper scuffing the car in front. hope it helps and even the rears work very well you will not be disappointed. also i think they were about £450-£500 fitted (that's prestige for you). picture below to give you an idea.
  18. yes i have lexus insurance and it is my second year also with a 220d and it costs £550 and that includes modifications. tinted windows (you should inform insurance companies as they will not pay out as it is classed as a modification) lowered suspension and twin exhaust. this also included a plug in performance chip but caused more problems than it was worth so dont have it any longer. those of you that want a quote should just phone the local dealer and they will give you the number to ring. :D
  19. Yes it is part of the Toyota Dealership and found out the owners name so will be calling first thing Monday, Thanks for the advice and sympathy
  20. Hi guys Well ****** off today, after taking my 220 in to lexus for a new bumper respray at christmas poor re-fitment has caused a number of areas to rub off the paint. I returned the car to Toyota bodyshop over the road which was where it was sprayed as they are the "Lexus authorised bodyshop" they only fixed 2 tiny marks using smart repair and left the rest they also put a dent in the nearside wing which they deny ********* after much arguing they said would contact my dealer to arrange a warranty repair. After calling my local dealer and explaining what had happened they said that they would never agree to such a repair as the toyota bodyshop is nothing to do with them or Lexus they are only 1 of many "authorised bodyshops" that i could have used and any problems need to be sorted with the bodyshop as it is them that the bumper re-spray is warranted by and not lexus. So now have to fight tooth and nail with a lying bodyshop manger to get things sorted. will let you know how things turn out and name and shame just thought you all should know to make sure this doesn't happen to anybody else. REMEMBER REPAIRS ARE UNDER WARRANTY BY THE REPAIRER NOT LEXUS :tsktsk:
  21. the disks i have purchased are the rossini performance disks which are drilled and grooved and mintex pads as these were the only ones available at the time. I would like to try some ebc green stuff or similar but can not source them in the uk and not sure if the USA version would fit the standard calipers so any info would be great. Total cost for disks and pads was £280 plus fitting when i get round to it, supplier was carparts direct on the net, hope they are as good as the hype 40% better than oem disks and up to 3 car lengths shorter stopping distance, lifesaver in my opinion. :D
  22. hi and welcome I can fully recommend the Falken fk452 they are awesome never lost the back end yet wet or dry they are priced very well and are also made by the goodyear/dunlop rubber group in japan so use the same technology as the f1 etc only much cheaper give them a shot you will not be disapointed guys and girl .
  23. All i can say is keep on at them or try and contact lexus head office who should be able to put things straight. if this does not work try to source another make of disk and pad like i did before i found they were covered under warranty. i am going to fit mine anyway as they should be better than oem. if you do fit other makes of "wear and tear" items this will not in any way affect your vehicle warranty as manufacturers can no longer monopolies servicing and consumable parts eg brakes, tyres, fluids, filters etc as long as they meet the minimum manufacturer specifications. GOOD LUCK buddy would be a shame to ditch the car if you generally like it, although i know how frustrating it can be finding answers.
  24. Further to my recent purchase and a phone conversation with service about fitting my items i now find out that brake disks ARE covered under warranty and will be replaced free of charge until the vehicle warranty runs out. the pads on the other hand are consumable and would have to be paid for when required or when disks replaced under warranty. Apparently not a lot of people know about this so if they try it on ring sheffield lexus to put them straight.
