  1. Replaced mine with Superflex bushes some time ago, UK agent based in Cornwall if I remember correctly. Go to the Australian site and look for agents. Cost approx £45 for both sides
  2. Do you know for sure that your mechanic changed the plugs etc, The reason I ask is that it is quite a long job and I found out that mine had not been done for way over 150,000 miles. It too was missfiring slightly as you state. Also as it had been standing, is there a chance that moisture has got to the HT system?
  3. Thanks for the offer Steve, but I manauged to purchase a secondhand radio at a very reasonable price. I just cant believe that the illumination cannot be changed by simply replacing the bulbs
  4. I was charged £1200 fir a new alternator and pwer steering pump for the same thing. The only time my LS 400 let me down in 290K miles The alternator caight fire due to the oil!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Now that I have sorted the speakers I want to fit a iPOD addapter so I though since I am removing the radio, I maight as well change some of the blown bulb in the head unit. To my supprise my local dealer cannot source the bulbs but would sell me a new head unit at £1700. Does anyone know where I can get the bulbs from and what part numbers they are Thanks By the way I have a 1993 LS400 going for spares or repair if anyone is interested. Its done rocket ship miles but has only let me down once, MOT until 22 June. Needs upper front wishbones at least to get a ticket. Mike
  6. Thanks again for your help, I managed to get to the front speakers over the weekend, and replaced them. I now have music. I am sure the car seems smoother now. Unfortunately the only speakers that were available at short notice means that the tweeters do not now work but this is a temporary matter. The front speakers are 5.5 inch 2ohm pioneer speakers with three screw fixing, most speakers you get over the counter are four point fixing and 4 ohm. If anyone needs instructions on how to get the door card off please e-mail me and I will send you instructions
  7. Thanks for your help, hopefully (weather permiting) I will be looking at it this weekend. Armed with my (albiet American) official workshop manual, I hope to get it sorted, as this car is considerably noisier than my other one. It has not been well looked after, there is significant wind noise, and a slight whine at around 40-60 MPH.
  8. I have just changed my 290K mile Mk2 for a 1997 Mk 3 and have found that I only have tweeters and the sub base speaker working. Does anyone have any experience of this issue? Is there a seperate amp for the mid range speakers? Where is it located? and where is the fuse for it located. I had downloaded a workshop manual for my old LS from TIS, but they have tightened up who can access the database now, and have limited it to US residents Thanks in advance
  9. Trying to source a new display for my blacked out temperature display, but when I need it all the ads have disappeared from Ebay, what has happened, has the run sold out?
  10. I wonder if anyone can help me? Some of the reasons I know, but for the last twelve months I have had an intermitant missfire. My garage has not been able to find it, but I did find out that the garage has not been doing what it should have! The car is a 1993 LS400, that is coming up to 270,000 mile. Since 120K, I have been using a local garage (except for the timing belt change when I go to the dealer). The car has been ultimately reliable, only letting me down when the steering pump leaked on the alternator, taking out both, also having to the power steering cooling pipe, and also one rear bearing. It is still on the original shock absorbers, and exhaust. Some time ago I notices a slight hesitation when accelerating on part throttle, it is OK if the gearbox kicks down, sometime the hesitation is more noticable after some high speed driving, othertime its drives relitively smoothly. It does not seem to use anymore fuel (although I do not tend to use it more in sport as this reduces the missfire). Here is the crunch, I found out that the garage has not change the spark plugs since I started taking it to them some 140K ago, this is my first job, but while I am at it, can you think of anything else I have to do to minimise the risk of this missfire continuing Thanks in advance
  11. I to have failed an MOT on both sides due to the upper ball joints (thanks for the link). only I have a 93 LS400 which I have just passed 268,000 miles in without any problems with the rear suspension (apart from the trailing arm bushes, and a wheel bearing). Infact the car has been outstanding, and still has the same shocker, exhaust, etc. I have heard of a proceedure that can recondition the ball joint, by drilling a hole in the ball joint and injecting resin. Dont know if it works, but the MOT garage sugested it! Thanks again for the link, another good US site is thepartsbin.com Mike
