  1. Agree, the staggered sets are quite rare, I have a set still (even though I don’t have a Lexus anymore 🤣) they are desirable for the Supra brigade (staggered sets) so there can be money to be made by advertising in the right place.
  2. GS430 all day long. Had both (S16) and the 430 is better in every way. There wasn’t a lot in it from a fuel consumption perspective, but performance was so much better. With the custom exhaust on the 430, the exhaust note was great too. Only thing I preferred on the 300 Sport over the 430 Sport, was the colour. The dark metallic blue was much more eye catching than silver. I also ran the Gen1 Sport wheels on both of the S16’s, they looked great on the Gen2 as well.
  3. Can’t help with measurements, but making your own is very easy, and pretty cheap. I’d always go for the cupro nickel pipe.
  4. Did you resolve this? does the alarm light stay off the whole time, or does it come on at all while you have the problem? I.e. immobiliser issue, or bad connection on the pickup ring around the ignition barrel.
  5. Looks awesome. Still love the look of the 1st gen, especially in Sport trim with the staggered borbets, stance from the rear end looks mega. i keep an eye out for gen1’s all the time, and as you say, there’s not many out there.
  6. Is it being over filled and not enough space left for expansion? With the cap off, are there any air bubbles being expelled?
  7. I’ve heard of objects left in the centre console causing alarm issues. Any coins or metal objects in there that are not normally there?

  10. Exactly. It is what it is, the fault code will give the definitive answer whether it is indeed a solenoid problem. After that, it’s pure luck if and when it gives up. Of course, a fluid flush may cure it, if that has enough of an effect on hydraulic pressures to make it happy again. I assume you are sure it is definitely using ALL gears? (I’m not trying to teach anyone to suck eggs at all)
  11. I seem to recall in my old GS, if you held the power off knob down for a few seconds, it would turn off the display as well. Had quite a few cars, so could be mistaken and it not be the Lexus 😄
  12. I’m no auto box expert I’m afraid. I believe the solenoids facilitate a smooth gear change, and can present an error code when they are on the way out. If the solenoid eventually fails completely, it will not shift to the gear the solenoid is servicing. Just my understanding, others may know better. Cheers Rick
  13. From what I recall (and it was a long time ago now) my gen2 used average mid twenties, with low to mid thirties on a steady run.
  14. Nice purchase. The gen1 Sport looked awesome, and the Borbet TTE Grandstand alloys (have to be the staggered set though) we’re just perfect for the car. Loved mine, and still prefer the loom of the gen1 Sport over the gen2, especially the rear end. I’ve still got a set of the wheels, and probably still have a few other parts knocking about in the garage (gen1 and gen2)
  15. When I had my old gen1 GS300 Sport, I fitted lowering springs by a company called RSR. I had to get them shipped from Japan through a UK supplier (that supplier has long gone now). No idea if RSR exist anymore or not, but might be worth a search.
  16. This is normally a solenoid issue in the gearbox. Doesn’t need the gearbox out to change one, just dropping the gearbox sump plate off is enough. Does need the code reading though, to find out which one of the solenoids needs doing.

  18. From what I remember when I did mine on my 300 Sport (a long time ago now), the plug and play depends a bit on whether it has the factory sat nav. Speaker wiring goes via the sat nav unit in the boot, so if you have it, you may need to DIY a bypass in that area. Mine didn’t have sat nav, so was relatively simple to bypass the factory amp in the passenger footwell. I did a double din replacement, with reversing camera, it worked very well. I was going to do the same with the Gen 2 GS430 Sport, which did have the factory satnav. I’d bought the standard heater control from a non sat nav (sat nav incorporates the climate controls) but didn’t end up doing the swap in the end.
  19. Welcome to LOC. looks a nice example, got any daylight pics? I really enjoyed the years I had my silver GS430 Sport. Quick, not bad on fuel for engine size, especially if taking a relaxed long distance cruise. Shame that the centre caps are missing, they’ll be tricky to replace as they are very rare. It’s also missing the usual chin spoiler that the Sport had. If you can get one, it does finish the front off nice.
  20. Yeah, the dash cam will be 5 volt. The adaptor that the OP links to will drop the Voltage from 12 to 5. That adaptor is pretty neat to be fair, a tidy way of hooking into power. The need for the dimming mirror isn’t the 5v as such, it’s the fact a non dimming mirror won’t have the power connector to plug the adaptor into.
  21. Pretty sure it should be. If you look at bottom of the mirror, there should be an “auto” button to override (turn off the dimming). If it’s there, then it definitely is auto dimming.
  22. If the car doesn’t have “Sport” suspension already, then it might look a bit like it is nose diving if you only do the fronts. You’d be best off doing the rears as well, which are available too on the website Steve links to. I had RS-R springs on my old Gen1. Don’t seem to be easily sourced over here, but can be got from Japan.
  23. Seems odd. The workshop manual definitely gives that torque in both the component diagrams, and the removal/re-assembly details. Is the part you have a genuine Lexus/Toyota item? the 113Nm value you mention is for the two bolts that hold the ball joint onto the hub.
  24. Maybe go test drive one at a dealer, at least you’ll know if it is how an ISF is, or it’s just how your one is?
