  1. Hi, I've had similar problems recently with my 1995 Mk3. Engine always ticked over at 1,100 rpm when cold going down to about 300 rpm when at running temperature. For the last 5 - 6 weeks it started ticking over at 1,700 rpm when cold. I put this down to the recent cold weather but last Sunday, whilst driving in the rain, I put on the wipers and the engine began to cut out! (and the wipers would not function). I checked the wiper fuse (20A) and it had blown. Replaced it with a new fuse and it blew immediately. Left the car overnight and tried another fuse the next day and the wipers worked fine AND the cold idle speed was down to 1,100 rpm again. Surely a coincidence as I can't see how this could be affected by malfunctioning wind screen wipers. The engine idled at 1,100 rpm when cold for almost a week and suddenly, yesterday morning, it went back up to 1,700 rpm. I am totally baffled by this. The fuel consumption has obviously increased considerably and I don't know what to do to resolve this other than to take it to a Lexus main dealer and get a diagnostic test done (which will no doubt be expensive and may be difficult to detect as the problem seems to be intermittant). Any chance it might be a problem with the air flow meter? Any advice welcome. Cheers guys Mick
  2. Thanks again guys I'll try E-bay USA and if I can't get a better deal there I'll buy from E-bay UK and have a go at fitting myself Mick
  3. Not really urgent as I can still receive a radio signal using what's left of the original aerial. I'll keep shopping around to find the best deal. Thought I might try to 'eject' the remaining part of the aerial first - just to make sure that I can get the mast and toothed cable out properly. I think this is done by pressing a combination of buttons on the radio whilst turning the ignition key to 'ACC'. Anyone know the exact method? Thanks for your responses guys Mick
  4. Thanks guys. Found one on e-bay for £28 delivered but seems like that may not be the best deal around. I'll keep looking.
  5. Hi Guys Just wrapped my LS400 Mk3 (1995) aerial around a car wash. Any ideas where I can get a second hand replacement as I believe a new one is quite expensive. Thanks in advance Mick
  6. Hi, thanks for you reply. I have the castleated key but this makes no difference regardless of which way the key is switched. I have decided to replace the entire alarm system. This is not just because of the "silent alarm" issue but also because I have only one remote 'plip' which is very worn and looks as though it will fall to bits at any moment. I contacted Scorpion alarms (I believe that LS400's had Scorpion alarms fitted between 1995 & 1997) and they told me that they no longer support this system and it is not possible to get a replacement 'plip'. Once again, thanks for the advice - much appreciated Mick
  7. Hi all, new member just joined. Recently bought an LS400 1995 (?Mk3) and the alarm does not sound when activated and it does not 'pip' when set. There is a horn under the bonnet on the right side wing that works when a voltage is passed through it and a unit containing a siren is fitted to the left side wing near the engine compartment bulkhead. This unit has Lexus stamped on it. Neither the siren in this unit or the horn make any sound when the alarm is set or activated. The indicators flash twice when I set the alarm with the remote key fob and they flash as they should when the alarm is set off (e.g. if I open a door from inside the car when the alarm is set). I have read all the correspondance on this site regarding alarm faults and I can find nothing that deals with this problem. The push button under the dashboard near to the fuel release lever does not make any difference (regardless of which position it is set to) and there is no dial next to the driver's side foot well light as described by some members in this section. With the exception of the lack of an audible warning, the alarm system appears to work exactly as it should. Does anyone know if there is another switch located somewhere that can turn on the audible alarm or is this possibly a dealer programming issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
