  1. Welcome to LOC. A new service book is no use to you without the service records. Try your local Lexus dealer and see if they can get some information for you either on when it has been services or who by. If you have no SH as a minimum you need a service with a cam belt change, if the belt goes so will your motor. I'd get it running right before you spend any money on it making it going faster. Personally, a low mileage car with no SH smells a bit :( Hope I am wrong. Where did you get it from ( eBay, private, dealer ) ?
  2. Motorways are OK, but main roads and side roads are treacherous. ( West Midlands ). Went through Quinton and Oldbury last night on the motorway and it was -14 degrees.
  3. I am afraid you are not very well informed. Winter tyres work better than summer tyres below 7 degrees centigrade, i.e. snow, frost, cold and even wet. They even work better than summer tyres on a dry road in cold conditions. They are made of a different formulation of rubber that stays softer in the colder whether hence the grip. Yes, don't drive on them in the summer but they are designed for winter even in the UK.
  4. Unfortunately both Lexus and Toyota are Listers in Coventry and next door to each other. Would have thought they might have mentioned trying next door rather than losing the work.
  5. Yes, I'd be inclined to use a trolley jack to move it about 3 feet.
  6. Unlikely, but they may foul if fuel isn't burning, have you thought of water in the fuel ( melted snow ). Did the car freeze in the cold, i.e. is the antifreeze mixture OK?
  7. Just a note - You should not top up with water but a suitable mix of antifreeze / summer coolant. Otherwise you may well find it freezes.
  8. So did he pay cash deposit? Have you got his details ( Name, address and land line phone number )? You obviously are a little worried so make sure you are cautious how you proceed, I would advise cash only and to go to the bank with the buyer and pay it into your account. If he next suggests paying by cheque or by bankers draft and giving you additional money to cover shipping ... then this is the time to BEWARE ;) Have a read here, there are three or four links worth reading: AutoTrader Safety and Security
  9. It sounds like the mechanic who did the oil change damaged something or didn't do it right. Driving it and smelling burning and a "noise" suggests to me that some damage has been done. I would write to the garage straight away showing your concerned asking for them to pay for an independant full examition of the engine to see what harm has been done and that you hold them fully responsible for the damage. Best case is no permanent harm, worst case is you may need a new engine. Don't delay, write to them now.
  10. There is a piece about it in AutoExpress this week, it is true.
  11. Car insurance works on market value, so what you paid for it doesn't matter. Look at somewhere like autotrader for a similar vehicle in age, spec., miles and condition and use that. Bare in mind a dealer will be charging more so maybe take an average between a private and dealer price.
  12. It's slow for me tonight too :( Windows 7, Firefox & 6mb down the phone. Other sites are fine.
  13. Try WIM, not sure if they have your size but put a post over there and ask. http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/forum/index.php
  14. It's all very well being able to drive the rear wheels with the socks on and get better braking from the rear wheels, but braking and steering from the front will still be pants :(
  15. I think you should have come here first and looked at the reviews of the IS220D, then maybe you would have made a different choice.
  16. Tyres are over-inflated, drop the pressure to 35 psi unless you are running with four-up and a boot full of luggage.
  17. Yes, I can understand that side of it having been there and done that in earlier years. Will be interesting to see how many sell. I still haven't seen an ISF yet !!
  18. If you mean savings on road tax then even if it saves £300 then over 3 years it's £900 which wouldn't be a consideration to most. Those in and around London may be more interested in the saving in Congestion Charge though ( maybe £4500 over 3 years ? ). On fuel I guess an average motorist on 12000 miles a year at current prices could save £3000 over 3 years.
  19. From what you say yo have been more than reasonable. Were the faults in the eBay ad? If so then I would say he is just trying it on. As you say soled as seen, tried and tested - he was happy to pay the money. If he were to raise a dispute on eBay he could get your address details but can't see what he would do. I think I would be inclined to send him an email through eBay detailing the facts ( including what was in the advert i.e used / old etc. ) and say it was not sold with any guarantee, was delivered by you & demonstrated and he was happy to pay for it.
  20. Thought they were taking hybrids out of the exemption, sure that's what I read this week.
  21. Maybe it's another case of someone jumping the gun, I didn't think the 200D was even on the Lexus website yet.
  22. Thought prices had already been "discussed" on here for the UK, £23.5k to £32.5k IIRC.
  23. Seems a bit strange that you had two independent faults at the same time. Glad you got through it OK.
