  1. Both my old mercedes and golf did that. You are right, a bit of an oversight by Lexus.
  2. I've read the manual and see no reference to parking lights. How do I set the lights so either left or right hand sidelights are left on when parked? I have an rx400h.
  3. On the vaistech it displays on the LCD panel of the radio (I have a satnav display, but the 05 model does not have dvd player or mp3 readout on the big screen) My one can display playlist name and track name or playlist number with track number. I can cycle through by pressing the text button on the radio. Yes, I have routed the cable to the glovebox. I agree fantastically neat solution, 1000s of songs under control of the head unit with no obvious signs on show.
  4. I took the plunge and ordered the vaistech sli kit. It was a bit frightening dismantling the centre console. The hardest bit was finding the 2nd pair of bolts holding the radio in. In the instructions it says '2 hidden screws', but they are actually bolts up inside the dashboard. Once I worked that out it was much easier. The 2nd shock was that my 3rd generation ipod wasn't fully compatible. I'm using my daughter's ipod nano and getting full text and all playlists on my 05 rx400h. It's a shame I don't have the mp3 stereo as that would give track info/listings on the screen with this kit. Sound quality is miles better than the fm kit. Good luck if you are fitting it yourself. Any questions let me know.
  5. I've just ordered the vaistech unit from cheaptoyotaparts.co.uk and am going to have a go at fitting it myself. The chap said he had fitted a few and it was a 15 minute job for him (maybe an hour for me?). He seemed to think the toyota/lexus ipod adapter is only for 2006 (mp3) type systems. I will let you know how I get on using the instructions that come with it and the instructions from this board. Is that 200quid for fitting and the unit or just the labour with unit on top? Cheers
  6. Not sure I can really add much as a new owner myself 1. I have heard that is true. Haven't found one myself. 2. I have lost track of all the threads I've read on this. Unless you are comfortable doing wire surgery then no. There is also a solution called 'lockpick 3' (I assume you can search for it in Google) 3. don't know on the 3d view . think not... 4. my headphones are infra-red...have read on lots of forums that the batteries don't last long. Hope that helps!
  7. Sorry to ask another question. I have sync'd some address book entries from my phone to the lexus phonebook and the names seem to appear on the list, but remain greyed out at all times. Anyone got any ideas how to fix or why. I did find an earlier thread that said if you have spaces or other characters in the phone number field then you get the greyed out effect, but I have checked one of the numbers and it has no spaces or characters - neither is there more than one number in the name record. Any help much appreciated - otherwise all my one touch dials will be just long lists of numbers that I will have to memorise. Thanks
  8. This is a bit of a sad question to ask - where is the DVD player for the headrest screens? I can see some video style wires (a scart?) under the drivers seat, but can't see a slot or front panel of player. Any help much appreciated
  9. I have read that problem on a few forums. However, I am assuming that it doesn't affect all of them as I have also read lots of owners who do not have the problem. Assuming that most people are on a forum are the ones with problems I am not sure exactly how widespread the problem is. If it affects me I'll be going for the larger amp/h battery as a replacement.
  10. I'm paying £30.4k - it's about the cheapest one I could find. Unless someone suddenly pops up and offers something better at the 30k mark.
  11. I am just about to hand over the money on a 2 year old rx400h se-l that has done 40k miles. My last (maybe) questions are a) the brake calipers looked a bit rusty to me - does that seem normal? (I did a search and others are saying that it is, although I saw similar age vehicles in the dealer that did not have this and had a worn down black finish) B) There is a noise in the back seat of leather creaking. The dealer assured me that this just needed a bit of leather treatment (lubrication?) and would go away immediately. They are doing the work, but will it keep coming back? Any experience of this? c) When I looked under the car at the exhaust and spare tyre bay it looked generally brown with rust and not shiny metal. Does that also seem normal. d) there was a little bit of a 'tide mark' around the top left hand side interior trim on the tailgate. Does anyone suspect a leak or is that normal. e) I looked at the car's maintenance history on the computer and it has been serviced properly to the schedule. Should it have had any other work like recalls done? The car has had a one owner, drives perfectly (beautifully quiet) and the engine bay certainly looks clean and tidy. Many thanks if anyone can offer any help or thoughts
