    Hi everyone

We went to look at the car which was an overall disappointing experience.  The car was dirty scuffed and not in great nick.  Ok these things can be fixed with a bit of polish however the salesman seemed to have zero interest in selling me the car.  The whole thing was very strange.  So walked away.  Still not written off Lexus however overall not a great advert for the brand.

I would say not a good advert for the dealership!

Something to consider is the original rwetail price of the car you are looking at. If it is over £40,000 new, then it will be in the luxury car tax band for 6(?) years.

    Hi Tom

I had a Ford Thames 15cwt van as my first vehicle in 1969.  Registration NME208.  Nicknamed Brian after the snail in the Magic Roundabout.  Wonderful memories.  Taught me an awful lot about driving and maintenance and repairs.  Bought for £60.  Did over 100,000 miles in it including 2 round Europe trips.  Sold it nearly 5 years later without an MOT for £45.  Happy days!!!

When I were a lad............ our family drove to Yugoslavia and back in a Ford Thames 15cwt ex-Rediffusion van with bus seats in the back and a home made roofrack!

    Happy Days Indeed!

The School Run is killing my average so I've stopped worrying about it. If I think about it too much I may wish I was back in the land of the wage-slaves instead of enjoying a non-stop life of excitement as a retiree!

A short school run is a real killer to mpg in my experience.

    Yes indeed! I’m around 12.6 km/L, so 28 mpg on my NX 300h 2018.

    What's your average ?

I am getting 27 mpg - it is winter and I am doing very short journeys. So I would not worry too much. Take it on a long run and see what you get. Last summer I averaged 45 mpg on holiday with a roof box.

That pretty much sums it up correctly. My 12 yr old car ( rusty underneath - bad in some places not too bad in others ) does not go out in the rain and NEVER if there is any salt around. So I am eliminating one issue and hopefully the rusting process will be slowed down for a few more years of enjoyment.🙂

I never take my LS400 out if it is raining or the roads are wet, if at all possible.

Does it do any good? Let you know when it is MOT'd tomorrow!

Don't bother giving it a thought. It sorts itself out. Mine is rarely 'fully charged', only after a long mountain descent. The system doesn't allow it get too low either, just diverts power generated by the engine to charge the battery if needed.

One of those rare things that just 'works'.

    Enjoy your purchase!

    Spot on Tony!

  7. I had a triple CABG (Conorary Artery By-pass Graft!) 8 years ago. my blockages were 95%, 85% and 70% if I remember correctly. You will not be allowed to drive for 6 weeks after the operation.

The post op exercise classes are essential to get back your fitness - you may even begin to enjoy them! They will probably take a vein from your leg and use that as the "tube" for the by-pass. It is considered a routine operation, but not to the person who is having it!

As Stephen said above, the main pain you get is from coughing - that is why they give you a rolled towel to hold against your chest. You will feel quite weak for at least 2 weeks.

Please DO NOT attempt any form of exercise until you are told to. I got bored and decided to polish the car roof after 3 weeks - oh did I suffer!

Be a patient patient and your recovery will be quicker! Try not to worry unduly and if they offer you an earlier appointment take it!

Keep us informed how it goes please - all the best!

Some interior cuts & scuffs so don't be fooled by low mileage or the 'Executive Limited Edition' that doesn't offer much more than a standard SE-L.

Never heard of Triangle Advante SUV tyres, they're poorly rated and cheap, Might soon need replacing for a 'proper' brand (that's £600+).

ask about drive belt & water pump replacement, if not done already they will need replacing imminently (more money).

    Good spot Rowley.

Interestingly, I was told that Steven Eagell Lexus dealers have more freedom to offer older cars for sale compared with Marshalls - not sure about Edgware (?)

So, this one has a appeared at Lexus in Edgware (Ironically, a few 100yds from my old junior school). Any thoughts anyone has, most appreciated: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202312084656390?fromSavedAds=true&advertising-location=at_cars&sort=relevance&postcode=gl116ad

It has a good MOT history - if it comes with a Lexus 1 year warranty then it could be a good buy. Top price but you should get the reassurance of a Lexus warranty.

The reason being it is a Hybrid and not an EV.  The battery and electric motor are designed to assists and work together with the main source of power (ICE) and give great economy.  Although the 'EV' speed is around 30mph, the engine can be off for over 50% of some journeys when coasting/descending hills etc. which is amazing.

    I wouldn't have anything but a Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid at the moment - Lexus/Toyota of course 😀

The whole system is very clever - if you monitor the energy usage you can get the ICE and Battery to be working at the same time to propel the car. Lexus cars waft along very nicely without the need for haste. My driving is slower compared with other cars I have driven. I try to keep in the economy section when accelerating - much slower to build up speed. The CVT gearbox does not lend itself toi being thrashed.

  11. To admire and sit in a car that has been extremely well prepared is, in my opinion, lovely. It is all about enjoyment. If you enjoy detailing your car and you get the pleasure of the finished product then well done.

If you pay someone else to do the hard work and enjoy the result then good for you!

I have spent many hours in my younger days cleaning and polishing my cars. I still do my own car but not to the extent I once did.

The first 6 months of having a license and a car to drive beats everything since to be honest.

Driving Dad's Mk2 Cortina 1300 and then owning my first car, Ford Anglia 105E(?) 995cc (£50 - watching the road fly beneath my feet through the rust holes!
