  1. I own a 07 220D, unfortunately I experience the engine problem about a year back the car had 24k on the clock. It was recovered to Lexus Sheffield they did a fantastic job re-built the engine fit new pistons, EGR value, cat and engine management control unit. This was done free of charge even though the car was out of warranty, do not forget this problem is a known problem to Lexus therefore the engine is guaranteed to 100k. As far as MPG goes I get around 42 travelling to work which is mainly urban roads this drops to 38 in the winter, which I am quite happy with. Love the car first car I have kept for more than three years.
  2. Kon123 Toyota Durham are even cheaper and both garages are owned by the same group. In fairness Lexus Newcastle will price match and are very good.
  3. It may be worth reading the following link http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=72233
  4. Gets four stars in dealer reviews on this forum. Have a look at this scroll down on the start menu to Dealer Reviews
  5. Hi Jen & Paul You sound as if you have lost total trust which is disappointing and can tell you I have had excelent service from Lexus Newcastle and of late Sheffield not had any experience of Teeside and I live mid way between them and Newcastle. I am positive that you car will get sorted and your cofidence will be restored, I am now getting 40 MPG it has gentally improved sonce the engin rebuild. Regards Merv
  6. I have had the same work done on my car following a breakdown on the M18 the RAC did some temporary fix but only lasted a few miles eventually the car was recovered to Lexus Sheffield. It was with them for a week in this time they fit modified pistons and rings, did a de-coke fit EGR valve, an ECU and catalytic converter. Excellent service from Gary and his team at Sheffield. It was explained to me that this can happen at any time with early engines mine is on 57 plate but who knows when the engine was built, regardless of how many miles the car has done What happens is oil passes the piston rings causing a build up of carbon in the cylinders any un-burnt oil goes into the EGR valve to cause a blockage and then into the catalytic converter damaging that. At first my MPG was poor around mid 30 and I was getting 42 before my breakdown, it is understandable that after such extensive work the engine will be tight and will take time to bed in. I have now covered about 1000 miles since the engine rebuild and the MPG has steadily risen and is now at 40, I think it is a case of gentle driving and you should see an improvement given time. My car was out of warranty and the work was done free of charge, do not forget that this engine in guaranteed for 100k. Merv
  7. Read the link below sounds like the problems I had you also need to take it to Lexus dealer early engines have a warranty of 100K miles because of this problem http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=71274&st=20
  8. Chuckie That’s remarkable same distance same MPG Yes mine was much the same on MPG only slightly better in winter fell to around the 38 mark I am sure the performance will return when all settles down after the rebuild getting better day by day. Merv
  9. Perhaps, either way I am a lot happier now that my MPG has improved, the revs at 1200 is characteristic of the engine as you say until it is fully warmed up. I travel 12 miles to work and in winter the engine is still not up to normal running temperature after this journey, it has been that way since day one. It was when I was travelling on the motorway when my troubles started I too thought the run at higher revs would clean the engine - wrong it packed in!!
  10. Chuckie I have done about 300 miles since my engine re-build and the MPG has gradually increased and is now around the 40 mark. I know what you are saying that it is difficult to understand why the ECU has to learn but something has changed for the MPG to improve.
  11. I have been told that there is a new IS to be introduced in 15 months time which will be a Hybrid, has anyone got any information on this - spec etc.
  12. Pauls - I have had the same work done on my car following a breakdown on the M18 a week gone Friday the RAC did some temporary fix but only lasted a few miles eventually the car was recovered to Lexus Sheffield. It was with them for a week in this time they fit modified pistons and rings, id a de-coke fit EGR valve, a ECU and catalytic converter. Excellent service from Gary and his team at Sheffield. It was explained to me that this can happen at any time with early engines mine is on 57 plate but who knows when the engine was built, regardless of how many mile the car has done What happens is oil passes the piston rings causing a build up of carbon in the cylinders any un burnt oil goes into the EGR valve to cause a blockage and then into the catalytic converter damaging that. The has ECU has to learn your driving style because being new it has no history the MPG on my return journey home from Sheffield from picking up the car was quite poor it is improving slightly as for it taking 2000 miles I hope not can’t recall it taking that long when the car was new. Before this breakdown I did not have a problem with poor mileage it was returning on average just over 40 MPG which I was quite happy with so I do hope it improves quickly. Merv
  13. I also have a 220D on a 57 plate and I get about the same MPG as you my son has the 250 also on 57 plate and he tells me that the best he can get with careful driving and air con off is 32MPG. So I figure it is a question of how many miles you do per year against the difference in the cost between the two types of fuel. Having said that the 250 is a far superior car to drive.
  14. Had a test drive on Saturday OK not a must have car very firm ride very expensive for what you get the mid range one is £27500 you are difinatly paying for the Hybrid name.
  15. The average MPG is the average for the journey you are making or last made and can be zeroed by pressing and holding the reset next to the Speedo. Whereas the tank average is as it states the average of the fuel in the tank since last filling up. This zeros automatically when filling up and can not be manually reset. The figure you should therefore use is the tank average which is your actual MPG.
  16. Hi Jaspabt I have a 220d se (57) and I love it, I think I may be one of the lucky ones no rattles and I get on average 42 MPG. I have to say that that is travelling to and from work a round journey of 25 miles and I am a steady driver. Goes without saying that this increases on a long journey to around 45ish. Had a 20k servise two weeks back which cost me £250 at Minnories Durham which is part of the same group as the Lexus dealership in Newcastle where I was quoted about £100 more. On the down side the boot is small but I can still get two sets of golf clubs in quite easy. Make sure you check the alloys and wheel nuts for corrosion. Merv
  17. It will be fine Carlack is best left for 24 hrs to harden you could even wash the car before waxing with a mild shampoo. Make sure you apply two coats of wax to build up the protection.
  18. vk2oo3 Why not not couple your viewing with a few days visit to the North East your will not be disappointed. There are some very interesting places to visit like Durham, Newcastle and the Northumberland coast, Durham is only about 25 miles from Lexus Teeside. Merv
  19. Hi Gib I get all my cleaning products from Clean Your Car, Tim is very good with excelent devilery. With regards to Victoria Wax Conners is great on dark cars I use it all the time, it is also worth reading some of the guides on that site lots of very knowlegable people. Merv
  20. Exactly - I rang Newcastle for a quote which was circa £240 they said if I got a cheaper quote would I give them the opportunitly to requote because they wanted the business. I told them of my quote from Toyoya, within five mins they rang back and said that they would price match. Guess we have to accept that we are in a age of shopping around in a competitive market place or be "taken to the cleaners". Merv
  21. Had several Toyotas when they are serviced the fob battery has been changed - I would expect Lexus to offer the same service ?? Merv
  22. Got a quote from Minnories Durham Toyota (who are the same group as Lexus Newcastle) £130 for 10k service, Lexus Newcastle price matched this. Took it to Lexus experienced excellent customer service attention to detail. Merv
