  1. yes it is legal. only cars registered`98 and onwards need the british standard kite mark mine is `97 and i am a welder by trade also cost me £10 for the steel to make the tow bar and £50 for auto electrician to fit and wire socket. i wasn`t skimping,i just wanted my own design and being able to take it off with nothing at all showing
  2. fit a tow bar and keep it.... i made my own detatchable tow bar a few months ago and have the socket underneath out of sight. 10 mins to fit the ball to the tow bar and i am up and away, there is no sign whatsoever with the ball off that anyone could tell it has one on
  3. cheers i was hoping for around the 9k mark will give it a few days more thought and maybee it will be on the site for sale. had bm`s , jags ,etc etc but i will be ****** if this has to go a better ride than my ex wife. ( thinking about that...so is a skateboard)
  4. thinking of selling my `97 mk1 sport 10" rears fully serviced with very recent cam belt change very low milage.just under 60,000 very good condition new rear tyres etc etc etc i know i am going to take a hit on this as i have owned it just over a year and stands me at 12k finances first, toys later thanks in advance
  5. had the dash clocks out of my mk1 to replace an instrument bulb, ran to the garage with no instruments in....... hasn`t run right since. takes longer / or holds an extra 500 rpm before changing gear now any ideas or is it a main agent job.. cheers
  6. i have i x 10" rear that also needs repair / refurb with little worn tyre ,i got a new one through warranty and so have this lying around with or without tyre can have it cheap email me on tony@selectweb.net north west area
  7. cheers for that, i have been in contact today and will send it off to them in the new year
  8. anyone have one for sale? mine is a mk1 gs300 sport 12 disc changer and it will not eject magazine, had it in bits and released it but when i put it back in it either comes up with err / or just keepson the load screen easier to replace it i think........... unless someone has an answer! email tony@playstation88.freeserve.co.uk as i dont access the web too often cheers
  9. mine does the same, push the car harder in the corners and it goes away. can only think that the sport with harder suspention than gs 300 is the cause my last car 325 bmw was the same, first got mine in february, it was like that when i bought it , i then put 275x35x18`s on the back and still the same. i have really hammered mine on some corners and the road holding is unbelievable for such a large car. will go round corners a lot better at speed than the 325, which i also uprated from the standard springs. i would say don`t worry
  10. mine too were a bit tatty and so looked at alternatives, they are a tap on fit allthough pretty tight, they do tap off as they are fixed with a spring steel insert if i knew or anyone can tell me how i will upload a couple of pics. i went a bit silly and put two stainless 5" zap tips on,looks good to me. £40 each from local powerlow exhaust agents.
  11. 19mm if using original nuts 21 mm if using correct size nuts this i know because i have just recieved a new rear 18x10 and it came with new nuts now i have to carry two different size wheelbraces well one 1/2 drive bar and two sockets
  12. i too have the same problem, phoned lexus last week toorder a new wheel and asked them, they said if i do not have the key number they could still get it by doing a toyota search ( presumabaly using the car`s vin n0 ) i would have to take the car to them along with proof of ownership and estimated around £200 for 1 key. if i lose the one i have now then the complete immobiliser will have to be changed £2000, think me goin for the key option.
  13. depends what you call reasonable??? the best price new i can find is bentleys @ warrington tel 0800 7838478 part no: 01700100003 18x10 9 spoke £342 + vat lexus dealer vary from £633 to £722 + vat but will only sell them with tyres ( pirelli p0`s ) going to order one today. also jap spares instockton on tees ( breakers ) have some in but want £300 each and they say they will need re-furbishing have new toyo proxes s1`s on at the moment and seem to be excellent handling, what they wear like i will be able to say in a few months. hope this helps
  14. any of you have one lying around? one of mine is beyond repair and so need another urgently as i am running one 10" and one 81/2" on the rear. `97 mk1 gs 300 sport. or anyone know of any lexus breakers/salvage yards. failing that i am gonna have to cough up at dealers for a new one thanks in advance
  15. where do i get them?? what is the cost?? am i missing summit??....are they more of a status ,than the silver ones? cheers
  16. just been on lexus.co.uk site the only difference i can see between the legato and sport apart from cosmetics are the sport has a 12 cd changer in the boot and a electric tilt and slide sunroof mine has these
  17. also got me thinking now??? i too purchased mine as a 300 sport has the normal alloys front and 10" on rear brake light is in the spoiler. my log book also states gs 300 await the answers
  18. just purchased the proffesional mains model, two handed grips, two bonnet covers rrp was £39.99 at motormania, now on sale at £16.99 seems a good buy, used it on my bmw last week and was brilliant on the large areas, willbe trying it on the lexus when the weather comes right
  19. thanks for the replies, the switch makes sence now, the long black thingy is still a mystery as the high level brake light is in the rear spoiler and there is a speaker also on the rear shelf, but also this long black plastic cover. i was comparing the acceleration to my last car bmw 325, only had it three days and love it otherwise, the comfort and quietness is something else, got to go........ needs polishig again
  20. just got a mk1 gs300 sport whats the long black thingy on the rear parcel shelf, don`t seem to have a traction control switch as it says in the handbook, did some get made with and some without? switches to the right of the steering wheel and lower down, there is a button that presses in and unlocks with the ignition key...whats that for? overall very nice car but dissapointing on the acceleration. thanks in advance
  21. just had a quote today from direct line comprehensive full no claims with protection, legal cover, courtesy car £150 excess mk 1 gs 300 sport 42 yrs old, 1 speeding ban in 2000 £393 lancashire others went as high as £1800 not got the car yet but will have it next week and will more than likley go with them for the insurance
  22. thanks for the replies, if i end up owning it ( which i probabally will ) in the next week or so , i will give the gold members a go. do you know of any dealers / service near lancaster or is manchester the nearest thanks again
  23. new to this forum, had bmw`s for the last 10 years and decided to have a change, been looking at the mk1 gs 300 sport model.have looked at a couple these last few weeks but today went to look at a 97 on a p plate 46k miles seems spotless 10" rears full service history sold as trade but the car looked and drove right and the bloke selling it says he is doing so for one of his employees. hpi checked with certificate asking 9750, seems a bit on the cheap side for me / for what it is. anything to look out for any comments on this model all info appreciated
