  1. Not what i expected but my 08 reg IS250 auto broke down today!!!! not happy!!! Right in the middle of a T junction. "Check VSC" was the main error. The car just wouldn't start again. Pushed it to the side of the road (at the amusement of a lot of people) RAC was called and after 2 hours they gave up and towed it to where I got the car from (Lexus Bolton) I called Lexus Bolton and they said they had no car and suggested I call the RAC again for them to sort a hire car out!! Guess what I got? An Astra diesel!!!!! again not happy. Anyhow, there will be a call tomorrow to Bolton and if it is going to be long term I want something a bit better than an Astra!!!
  2. Had a 220d SE from new in Oct 2007 Brechin Slate. After 7 months and 9000 miles looked like i had driven behind a gritter for most of that time. Had a word with the dealer and basically they didn't want to know. The only explanation was it is a very low bonnet line and therefore prone to stone chips. Now have a Argento Ice IS250 and after 5 weeks and 1500 miles there not much evidence of chipping but the lighter colour does help.
  3. Mine isn't an "SR" As far as I know it's a "limited edition" marketed by some of the lexus franchises. The car is basically a "no trim" model with 17" SE alloys and the body kit. There was an option at some dealers to add leather (not electric/cooling/heated) for an extra £1000 but passed on that. I have actually found the cloth seats more comfy than the leather ones in my previous 220d SE. You feel as if you are sat "in" the seat unlike the leather where I felt as if I was sat "on" them if you get where I'm coming from. Plus mine was around £2250 cheaper than the price of an "SR" petrol/auto
  4. Hello Guys Wasn't going to bother with this but my experiances over the past 8 months adds comment to many relative posts. Bought a brand new 220D SE in Oct of last year. Brechin / Sussex. Had all the common faults. Vibrating mirror, sqeaky dash and a problem with the leather on the rear seats. All were sorted out with 3 or 4 visits to the dealer who I must say were very good. The car averaged 39 MPG over a period of 7 months and 9000 miles on a 50 mile daily commute 80% motorway. What I couldn't put up with was the gearbox and gearing. They where an obsolute nightmare IMHO. Other things to note was how how easy the paintwork marked. The front bumper and bonnet looked really bad up close with stone chips. Anyhow on my last visit to the dealers for a problem to be sorted in March they loaned be a petrol automatic. WOW what a difference. it just felt like a completely different car altogether, so so much better. just what a lexus should be like!! So from that day onwards I decided to look for a good deal where I could offload the diesel without too much of a hit considering the car was only 7 months old. 3 weeks ago I got a brand new delivery milage "limited edition" IS250. Petrol / automatic. It is based on a base model but with 17" SE alloys and a really smart body kit in Argento Ice with black cloth. it is the latest model with autolock and slimmer seat pockets at back of front seats The only thing I have lost is the leather, but that is a small sacrifice. I have done 800 miles in 3 weeks and haven't stopped smiling. I have filled the tank twice and averaging 35 MPG!! Thats real figures and not the computer. There are no shakes or rattles. The car feels alot more planted and stable. It has Toyo proxes R32 which are miles quieter. The car does look to sit lower than the diesel but the body kit may be making it look that way. Well i have done what a lot have people have suggested on this site and gone for the petrol/auto. Easy in hindsite but I really now wish I hadn't stepped foot in a diesel and anyone in the market for an IS I can only suggest the same.
  5. Mine is the same. Idles at 1200rpm until fully warmed up and yes if you turn the fan off it reduces back down to 800rpm not ideal and on these cold mornings you a more likely to need you fan on to keep the screen clear. Mine is a 57 plate too. It has been back to the supplying dealer for a few issues one being the high revs. They are telling me it is normal too. I have also phoned 2 other lexus dealers who say the same, its normal! They also did a bit of tinkering with the ECU. They also changed the rear view mirror which is now vibration free. I must admit I am getting around 40 mpg but taking it easy to attain that. i would really like to open it up but being a private motorist and doing around 400 miles a week it would get expensive!
  6. Put "car paint protection film" in google and you will see plenty of sites offering what you are looking for.
  7. 502 miles on the clock after first 8 days. Filled the tank up today worked out at a better than expected 42 miles to the gallon. (The trip computer was spot on too!) So thats a move in the right direction. General daily commute is 50 miles at 80% motorway 20% A/B roads. Set cruise at around 80mph where i can. Getting used to the car now and beginning to enjoy it. Starting issue is slightly better by getting into the habit of just pressing the button initally, waiting a few seconds and then hitting it again with green light. Only seems to be a problem first thing in morning. Have you noticed how many BMW drivers seem to look in envy because I have. Looking forward to a trip to the south cost in a couple of weeks , fully load with wife, kids and luggage, round trip of approx 600 miles so will give some feedback on how things go with that. Looking at give the paint some winter protection soon. Any recommendations on the polish front?
  8. Hello all. First time post and one week since I picked up my new IS 220d SE and 400 miles now on the clock. Already I have some worries which are very familiar with other post on this forum. Vibrating mirror at low revs or with a bit of bass from the CD ( I guess the dodgy mirrors are still on the newest of cars) Some reluctance to start in the mornings. It sounds as if it isn't going to fire after a fair amount of cranking. (How embarrasing would that be) Erratic idleing. As much as 1500 rpm!! Feels a bit sluggish but I am being a little careful for the first few hundred miles and trying to get some decent MPG. The gear change feels a little 'clunky' but that maybe down to the fact I have had an auto (DSG) for the past 2 years. Had 3 Audi's for the past 10 years and they have never missed a beat. I am still waiting for a call from the dealership to see how things are (won't hold my breath) and a chance to vent a little anger. I'll give them another week and get the car in if the idleing and starting issues don't settle down. I did have a call from Luxus GB this morning asking how things were but I was too embarrassed to discuss things in ear shot of work mates. On the positive the car looks great and the interior is superb. I have had a couple of people in the car who wouldn't believe it was a diesel. Any how I'll keep a close eye on LOC it's a great forum.
