  1. Sounds like exactly the same problem! Mine's been ok since but I've not done such a long drive again, think I was on about my 5th hour when it happened before.
  2. No it was all well connected, I did wonder the same thing myself but that definitely wasn't the case. Only thing I thought was maybe it had somehow 'crashed' and just needed resetting (not really sure what's in the Grom box)
  3. Well, if anybody has the same problem, I disconnected the Grom and plugged in the original lead into the back of the stereo and it started working again fine so a quick test before sending the Grom unit back I plugged it back in and that too is working fine now. So not really sure what the problem was but disconnecting it seemed to sort it out - just hope it's not to become a regular thing!
  4. Hi guys, I've got a very strange problem & wondered if someone can help. I installed the Grom iPod adaptor to my oem HU (top loading) a couple of weeks ago and all has been working fine until the other day during a long session of use it started playing up and went through a couple of phases: a) listening to iPod, suddenly the CD also starts playing and I now only have control of the CD - turning stereo off/on makes no difference (in fact sometimes turning it off it came straight back on again) b ) iPod no longer coming through HU, switched to radio which worked fine except the volume button did nothing - just sat at a set volume & also the opposite button for bass etc. didn't work. All other buttons ok (apart from iPod control) c) now the same but there is no volume at all, the same 2 buttons still do nothing but the others appear to work (i.e. I can change radio station even though there is no sound). My iPod has been disconnected for a few days although I've not had chance to disconnect the Grom adaptor yet. Does this sound like a problem just with the headunit and it's just a coincidence it was around the time of fitting the Grom? Or could it be that the Grom has somehow knackered my headunit? I'm going to attempt to remove / refit the Grom adaptor tonight hopefully but not holding out much hope to be honest. TIA
  5. I used the same guy as Kam above, I emailed him first to check it would fit - I described the stereo to him as mine is a top loader but I didn't know the model number. He knew which lead I needed. If you contact him first then you should have no problems returning it if it doesn't work.
  6. Ah cool, that looks like a better option. Cheers! :)
  7. I've been thinking of getting a decat pipe, do any of you guys have them? There are some on Ebay (Item number: 270319265671) sold by "2fast2cool2" who seems to make all sorts of stuff, is £90 reasonable and does the pipe itself look any good? Or are there cheaper / better alternatives? TIA
  8. The whole MPG gauge just seems pointless to me, I mean when you accellerate it drops to about 10mph whether you floor it or just accellerate gently, and when you are coasting / remove your foot it just goes right up to the top end of the gauge. An 'average MPG' would have been more usefull, I spent the first few weeks of ownership gasping at how crap the MPG was until I gave up reading the gauge. lol
  9. I've had my IS200 just over a month now so can't really comment on reliability (although so far *touch wood* there has not been anything wrong at all), but at the time of test driving I was lucky enough to have the choice of 2 nearly identical models except one was auto one was manual. I prefered the colour of the manual so this was an obvious choice for me - but upon test driving both of them I very surprisingly bought my first ever auto, it is REALLY nice to drive! If you get the chance I'd test drive both to be sure, never thought I'd own an auto but I'm very happy with my choice. :)
  10. It would be interesting to have the figures for the last couple of years on there, as from 2002 - 2005 the tax% dropped every year. Interesting also to note that super unleaded has a lower tax% than standard unleaded and diesel pretty much every year it's recorded - yet it's always more expensive than standard unleaded...
  11. did you nearly offer some very different advice then? Yeah I saw that, a picky copper will do you for anything though if you let them, even if it's not strictly illegal. I just had a good look on the Clifford site and it says nothing about being illegal on the road, only that it can only be fitted to automatic vehicles so not sure really. Yeah turbo timers fall into the same category.
  12. Not really, the idea is that you use them whilst your car is on your drive, which is perfectly legal. (Just like companies who make illegal numberplates or lights or other bits for your car are ok because they're sold for 'show' use etc.)
  13. It'll never come back down again, the prices will just keep going up. There was such uproar when it went up to £1 and everybody complained and tried not buying petrol on certain days etc. etc. but it's now £1.20+ in some places, it'll just keep creeping up. The government probably wont realise the damage they're doing until half the country have emigrated!
  14. I used to do that with my last car, but then it didn't have door handles so was perfectly safe... You can get remote start on Clifford alarms (& no doubt others) so you can start it up without leaving the house, if anyone jumps in & tries to drive off it just shuts the engine off without the keys. But yes, on a public road it is illegal (same as turbo timers)
  15. My last car was a heavily modified FTO, I had everything declared on it and I was quoted about £3700 from a reputable Jap import insurer - my reply was "but my renewal is only £350?"
