  1. What model of Ls did u have Gilbert? My friend has mk4 LS400 (1998 ) since 2002... he’s only ever had to change his brake Calipers..nothing else....apart from routine service items We hate him!
  2. Gilbert mpg isn’t what was bankrupting me..I only do about 4000 miles per yr....it’s the catalogue of failing things! Although my LS is in immaculate condition, and at the moment, everything works....Whoever buys it won’t it have to worry about replacing radiator, done this year, steering wheel motors, done last yr, spark plugs, still 40000 miles to go...but cam belt, water pump etc looming large in next 2 yrs!, exhaust showing signs of corrosion etc etc. Steering wheel wobbles and my Indy say could be the steering shaft as bushes are fine! So sadly time to move on!
  3. Oh thanks Rayaan I was dismissing them, but will keep an open mind
  4. Don’t start Phil... all my friends are telling me I am mad! But it’s 430...not 400 ...& has been a troublesome & costly love affair! I am ready to move on! And RX450h seems a damn good alternative.
  5. Thanks for your help and reassurance. I am convinced the way to go is with Advanced. I will be buying from a Lexus dealer just to ensure peace of mind! And will ensure full service history and hybrid health checks carried out. I shall also ask them to get the sellers permission to give me copies of all the paper work such invoices and work done. I assume most people do when spending this sort of money. As I only do up to 4000 miles per year air suspension is not that critical for me. A lot Advance models come with Panoramic roof. Will this present a problem when parked in sun in summer months? And how often does one actually uses it? I am inclined to go for sunroof or none!. I am happy to wait until the right one comes along.
  6. Thanks Les I have air suspension on my LS430...and have had no problem. Was thinking of Luxury trim, but after reading on this forum am leaning towards Advanced. My budget is £24k to £26k for the right car. Probably last car I will buy at 72 yrs of age....
  7. Very useful, as I am considering buying one. And here I am clucking about 2012 RX450h Premier with 50,000 miles. Slightly out of my reach at £24.5k
  8. I am thinking of changing LS430, after owning it for 11 yrs & becoming nearly bankrupt, for RX450h. Should I be worried about any car with highish mileage and up to six years old? Any advice on model or what to look out for would me most welcome. thanks
  9. Tyres were checked as part of the service earlier this month. The tread is fine but they are five or six years old. I only do about 2000 to 3000 miles per yr. will have them checked and balanced at a tyre centre next. The wobbles only happen when the road surface is rough. Otherwise everything works ok. My mechanic , thinks it could be the steering column! God forbid.
  10. Sorry, should have mentioned that I have had the suspension bushes checked
  11. So what could it be Lee? When the steering wheel wobbles..as mine does! My Indy thought it could be the worn bushes (?) but that turned out NOT to be the case!
  12. Malc I should have mentioned, changing battery was the first thing I did. I keep a couple of them in the car. Normally I change them on Boxing Day....
  13. A couple of days ago, my fob stopped communicating with car. Had to lock it mechanically using the key. searched this forum and found a thread back in 2014 and followed the procedure described by Steve. No joy.... Found this link on the internet http://www.lowratelocksmith.com/automotive/remote-key-fob-programming/lexus-ls430/ tried the procedure for 2003 LS430. It appeared to have had worked except no response whether the code was registered or registration failed. Anyway, on my return from my journey, I was about to lock the car mechaniclyy, but decided to gove the remote function to lock another go. Hey presto success. Checked the two spare keys and they all work. Saved a trip to my Indy, Japex, or worse to Lexus dealer. might be worth keeping the above link in your bookmarks. Cheers
  14. Thanks Ben. I am going to get the garage to fix the leak and will pass on your suggestion to them.
  15. About 4 yrs ago after very hard winter my reversing camera stopped working properly. Replacing it meant around £1000. So decided to do without. My Indy ( Japex ) found that there was evidence of water ingress. After this hot & dry summer, guess what, camera has started to work. Joy. All I have to do now is to have leak source found and fixed.
  16. I repaired mine in situ...about 2 yrs ago..no problems since. But silicon gun won’t help! The access is too restricted. You’ll have to use your fingers and as small a silicon tube as you can find. Make sure u have water in a bowl to wet your fingers and plenty of kitchen paper towels to wipe off the access. its not difficult but fiddly...practice on a piece of surface outside the car before u tackle the job. removing the sub is not an easy job..involves having to take the back seat out!
  17. Possibly the paper cone is torn.. If you can take the top cover off, gently with a screw driver or similar, on the subwoofer on the rear seat shelf under the rear glass shield. Then gently , very gently, run your finger around the cone...if you find a tear. Stop. get some colourless silicon , small tube , and apply it generously to seal the tear. Better still , seal it all around the paper cone close to the tear. Be careful not to let silicone get on the shelf or leather...then wait for it to dry. Next day try the music...if it works put the cover back on and enjoy. If not then...it could be an expensive job. There is a thread on this topic...but I think it’s on the US club. good luck...It worked for me a few yrs ago...
  18. I have iPhone7 with iOS 10.3.3 and have no problem with uploading my address book via bluetooth. The problem might be that too many phones are linked by bluetooth. If so delete some of them and then try. re the carpet hook to your mats...there's no easy way ,without removing the carpet. You can get the replacement forthe hook...about £1 and gently push it through a steel washer and push that through the carpet hole....that worked for me! good luck
  19. Hi Mark I am not sure this will help. I had this problem recently. In my case, whilst stuck in a traffic jam ( M25 ) I tried to make a hands free call from telephone addressbook via the audio system. But before the call could connect, I had to move and the call failed. Naturally the telephone addressbook greyed out. After this my audio sound stopped both for radio and cds. The rest of my journey was in silence. But after getting home, I turned the audio off and then the engine off . Then restarted the car , turned on the audio and hey presto the sound was back and has not let me down again. So might be worth turning the audio off and then turning the engine off. Start the engine back on and turn the audio on and pray that brings the sound back on. Cheers
  20. Blue tooth wo tks fine. But only a few phones can be registered. So make sure your dealer deletes all previously registered phones.
  21. Hi I had exactly the same thing happen to me on my LS430! It was a very bad year! Lexus paid half the cost to replace the pipes which are prone to stone damage and leak, but refused to make any contribution towards the compressor. One thing Honest John ,of the Telegraph , says have the gear box of your compressor checked by the independent aircon specialist...if thats the problem, it would be a much cheaper solution.
  22. Mine also oks low when cold. But it comes up to max level after the car's been driven for few miles. Check ehen the engine is warm....
  23. Hi Mark Just read this , I have the same model as you!☺️ i replaced my battery with one supplied by Tayna...it was E24 Varta Blue Dynamic Car Battery 2V 70 Ah (570413063) (069 071 072) total cost £58.45 that was back in March this year.
