Hi Peter, In my humble opinion you did well to get 21MPG when towing. At best I only got 18 - 19 MPG when towing a 1550 KG van! Brian

Hi Mike, I towed a 1550 Kg caravan with my RX400h for 2 completly trouble free years and I would recommend it without any qualms. Fuel consumption wasn't anything to write home about at 18 MPG when towing but that was expected. It was an extreemly stable towcar even in sometimes very poor weather, load capacity was great with plenty of room to get the awning and associated stuff in. I had a local car electrician fit a Westfalia detatchable tow bar for around £650 and towed with a noseweight of 75-85 Kg. Unfortunatly I swapped it for a Mercedes ML350....just wish I had kept the RX. Hope this helps. Brian

This may be a daft post but are you sure that its the calliper? The reason I ask is that having followed this thread from pretty much the beginning. You seem to have folowed a logical process trying to fix it. A couple of mills movement seems to me to not be very much to hear given the sound insulation on the RX. Have you checked the rubbers on the rear hubs? I ask because I had a similar noise on my RX and thats what it turned out to be The local dealer replaced the hub, bushes and all. I had no further noise. Just asking. Bri

Hi Jim, I towed a 1500kg caravan for a couple of years with an RX400h. I had no problems whatsoever towing, it was very stable tug in every respect. Just a couple of things to be aware of: Front tyres will wear out quite quickly (depending on how many miles you do of course) I was getting through a set of front tyres in about a year. Secondly you will consume a fair ammount of petrol, I was getting 18 MPG all the time towing no matter how light my right foot was! I subsequently traded it for a Mercedes ML but wish I had kept the Lexus. Hope this helps Brian

Hi all, I have had a RX400h for a couple of years and have used it to tow my 1500Kg caravan around very sucessfully. I am now thinking of changing my tow vehicle and ideally would like a Lexus but ( and here's the crunch) I get 18 MPG when towing. (Yes before you all jump on me I know it is a big petrol engine and what do I expect!) However I was wondering if any RX450h owners could report their towing figures to see if they are any better. Any info will be gratefully received especially if it is for towing vans around the same weight. Thanks Bri

Hi, I had a towbar fitted when I got my RX400h about 2 years ago. The local auto electrician fitted me a Westfalia detatchable with a thirteen pin plug and all necessary relays etc. Although the website said that the bumper had to be cut he managed it fine without any cuts at all. The socket just swings sideways and sits completly behind the bumper when not in use. Local Lexus dealed wanted £1000+ for the job the eletrician did it all for £650 well pleased. Marilyn, I have recently had the CD player changed on my RX400h. I know it was under warranty but the garage told me that they no longer make the units new but send them away for refurbishment. So I would guess that a refurb one should not be too expensive (hopefully). Either way I used the Lexus dealer in Hull, they have always been very helpful so I would give them a ring as a starting point. Brian

Having just checked with a towbar suppliers website the max noseweight is 80Kg. I tow regularly with my 400h using a max of 75Kg without any problems whatever. Hope this helps, Bri

Sorry Kev I haven't looked at this for a while. But no I don't have any more info on the modified plug for you. But for anybody with the same problem what the garage did to mine has worked not a single problem with the headlights since. I just don't have the heating element along the bottom of the screen but I guess I can manage without that.

Had my windscreen changed just over a year ago. About 4 months ago I started to have problems with my headlights coming on unannounced as it were. Local dealer eventually traced the fault to water coming in via the connection for the heating element along the bottom of the screen. Apparently the Lexus screens have a modified wire and plug now but the screen that the insurance company fitted to mine didn't. They appear to have cured it by disconnecting the wire and putting more sealant around where the wire comes in. Hope that helps. Bri
