  1. Thanks Stav I will keep an eye on the ebay item you listed. Still not sure if it's the right part, although I would assume a brand new Cat would help with the emissions anyway! Cheers. Mike.
  2. Yikes now I'm confused/worried. Most here seem to think it's the main CAT but Toyota said they were sure it was the pre-cats! I dont want to end up with the wrong part, and as I am broke buying both parts doesnt make much sense. Is there an easy way to tell which part is kaput? Cheers. Mike. PS I would assume buying both parts on the off chance would also double my delivery costs too. Not sure what they will be.
  3. The Car is a 1999 T Reg has about 118,000 miles on it. IS200 Sport. It was Toyota that told me that it only just passed by 0.1 that was in June last year at it's MOT. They said it was the pre-cats that needed replacing. I have taken it to a local mechanic today he has tested it and said that it doesnt pass any longer. He agreed that it was probably the pre-cats telling me that they normally go first. I have no idea, not really knowing anything about cars. But I cant afford to spend dosh on a part, delivery and fitting if it isnt the problem. Is there a way to be sure thats easy to check? Not sure my mechanic will be trying lots of different possibilities without charging me for his time obviously. Mike.
  4. I did speak to someone that had just sold one for £40, just my luck to have missed it! Mike.
  5. Hi All, My car only just passed it's emmisions test at it's last MOT in June. I have had it tested again today with a local mechanic to double check what Toyota said was correct, and now its even worse, now it would fail. :( From what I understand the pre-cats are in/part of the 'Manifold' I am not 100% on this as my knowledge on cars is zero really. I am skint so need to look for a second hand part. Any ideas on a good place to find one for a reasonable price? I dont really want to go down the breakers yard route, but it might be my only option. So if anyone on here knows a good place to get hold of a second hand Manifold please let me know. Cheers. Mike.
  6. Thanks guys, if anyone else has the Manifold with pre cats part please PM me. Cheers. Mike.
  7. I checked the test result it was done back in June at 12:55pm for my MOT. Results: FAST IDLE TEST FAIL ITEM ------ ACTUAL---------LIMIT RPM PASS----2740------- 2500-3000 CO FAIL---0.67%----- 0.30 MAX HC PASS-----101ppm---- 200 MAX Lambda ------1.02-------- 0.97-1.03 ONLY JUST PASSED! PASS ---------------- SECOND FAST IDLE TEST PASS ITEM ---------ACTUAL ------LIMIT RPM PASS----2760------ 2500-3000 CO PASS-----0.10% ---- 0.30 MAX HC PASS-----40ppm ---- 200 MAX Lambda 1.01 --- 0.97-1.03 ONLY JUST PASSED! PASS ---------------- NATURAL IDLE TEST PASS ITEM ------ ACTUAL----- LIMIT RPM PASS --620 ---- 450-1500 CO PASS --0.06%--- 0.50 MAX OVERALL RESULT EXHAUST EMISSION REST: PASSED ---------------- None of these test results mean much to me as I don't know stuff about cars. Although it does seem judging by the first two results it only just scraped through! Hence why they are telling me I need a new CAT, which I since found out is called the 'Manifold'. grrrr Mike
  8. Aww am I the only oned that's named mine then? how much is a session please? lol Mike.
  9. I may have read this wrong, but I dont think he meant his car is called 'Janet', I think he was talking to Janet RE her previous post. ;) My cars called Lexie, not very original I know, but she often flashes her skid light at me, that might be just to tell me to behave as I can be a bit naughty in her sometimes. What does everyone else name their car? lol Car counseling with Bonita sounds useful, mines busted! Mike.
  10. Hi All, Interesting thread. I have been using 'Snow Mode' for about a year now on my 99 IS200 Sport after reading on here that it made a difference to fuel consumption. My car is manual and I run it down to very low in the tank normally. When I fill up I am generally putting in 65 litres and I used to always get between 315 and 330 miles on a tank. The car is rarely used on motorways and is usually used mainly for short trips, probably in total only 26 miles a day, school run mainly, so back and forth a bit but not many miles each time. Since using the snow mode I now achieve around 380 - 400 miles per 65 litres in the tank, which certainly adds up in price savings over the year. If I am on the motorway for a longinsh trip, say around 450 miles round trip which I do a couple of times a year I have fuel still left in the tank. So I think snow mode makes quite a difference on consumption. Just hope it's ok to run my car all the time using it! :) Let's face it, using snow mode in actual snow doesnt really do much to stop lexie from sliding all over the place!! I think it just sends a message to Lexus Head Office to say.... hahaha someones trying to use one of our cars in the snow again, fools! So it might not be great for it's original purpose but it's handy for saving a few quid. Mike.
  11. Yikes I will be really woried if the other CAT is going too! Mike.
  12. But if it nearly failed emmisions because it needs a new cat surely removing it will make it worse? Is what you have the part that I am after? If so how much would you want for it including post, and what condition is it in please? PM me if your interested in selling it. Cheers. Mike.
  13. Hi Stevie, Sadly as I said my tech knowledge is zero on this, so I am already quite confused to start with! lol According to Toyota there are two parts for the CAT, both amazingly and very weirdly are the same price £654.90 each + VAT & fitting, but they are seperate parts. The part that I need they are calling the 'Manifold' which has the CAT inside it they told me. They are sure that I need it because at it's MOT it only just passed the emmisions test by 0.1 and it's making a noise which is the honeycomb part in the CAT rattling about as it breaks up. They have told me: Front CAT converters are both broken up. MANIFOLD ASSY PART x1 = £654.90 + VAT GASKET EXHAUST PART x2 8.88 = £17.76 + VAT Remove and renew exhaust manifold assy = £41.30 The price is horendous for a car which being a 1999 T reg is probably only worth a couple of thousand pounds now. Thankfully it seems 'Ellz' on here may have the silencer/backbox I need so that will save me on that bit, but this CAT/Manifold business is a nightmare! Mike. Hmm, ok, so it's the pre-cats that have gone, rather than the main cat. Is the £655 plus VAT you were quoted for a new manifold (including pre-cats) ? Is it just me or does this sound a bit weird ? Could it be a sensor that's really faulty ? There's a diagram of the various components here
  14. Just to clarify for anyone reading this I have been told by Toyota that the CAT comes in two parts, and is not the part I first thought! The bit I need is known as the 'Manifold' which apparently has the CAT inside it. Cant find anyone that makes one of these other than the standard lexus part, so anyone with any information or advice please feel free to let me know. Cheers. Mike.
  15. Thanks guys, I have messaged Ellz and will wait to hear back from him while I continue my search. :)
  16. Hi Stevie, I havent tried a breakers as I thought I might just end up with an old part that will need replacing again soon. I did use a company called 247spares before when I needed a part for replacing the windscreen wiper mechanism. Cost me about half the full price and came from a breakers yard. I will give the idea some thought, but I think would still prefer to get a new part from someone. Hopefully some people here will point me in the right direction. Why do these things always happen when your broke? lol Mike.
  17. Hi All, I would really appreciate some advice on finding a replacement part for my Lexus IS200 Sport. The 'rear exhaust silencer' needs to be replaced, and as my car is a 1999T reg I am not sure there is a great deal of point in forking out for one from Lexus as I would assume it will cost me a lot more. Toyota have quoted me £300 incl VAT for the part. Does anyone know of any companies that sell the same/similar part for less, and that wont increase my insurance? I'm guessing it only increases insurance if its counted as a modification? On a seperate note I have also been told at my last MOT that my CAT will need replacing before it's next MOT as it only passed emmisions by 0.1 :( My local Toyota garage have quoted me £655 + VAT + fitting for a new one! I have found a company that will supply me one for £300 so I will probably use them does that sound a reasonable price for a new CAT? Sadly and much to my surprise that company dont sell the part I also now need for my exhaust or I would buy that from them too. Any advice/help finding a cheaper replacement than Toyota/Lexus would be gratefully appreciated especially as I am already skint! I am not after anything flash or that will improve performance etc, just the replacement part. P.S I have no technical knowledge, I will be getting a local mechanic to fit the parts for me, he has already tried two companies he uses for aftermarket parts, he got the me the price for the new CAT which I havent ordered yet, but his suppliers dont do the silencer.
