  1. Good evening, My Lexus IS 250 went in for it 6 year/60000 mile service today (car has only done 38K). Over the weekend the handbrake light was flashing. As it was due a service today I thought I would let the dealer look at it - I suspected either low brake fluid or a bulb. Had a call from the dealer this afternoon (expecting to be told the car is ready). However, as a result of the brake seal recall work carried out a year ago to the brake master cylinder seal, I have been told that the seal has failed and as a result fluid has now contaminated the brake booster. This recall work was carried out by another Lexus dealer a year ago. The service rep has raised a call to Lexus GB advising them of the problem and has expressed to them that it could be due to poor fitting (bodge) by the other Lexus dealer or the new seal (post recall) has failed. Either way the seal and booster is going to need changing before the car can be released and the dealer has asked me to be prepared for a £1500.00 cost if Lexus GB do not entertain this. To be honest I can't really see how Lexus GB could wriggle out of this (saftey, reputation etc), but it has got me a little anxious and I thought I would post in case anyone had any tips/advice if they hold me to ransom to pay. On the flip side if they put it down to their negligence, should I kick up a stink for the inconvenience or be thankful that they have replaced the part. Thanks in anticipation.. P.S. Only 4000 miles done since the recall work.
  2. I had exactly the same problem on my is250 se MM, it took almost 2 years of convincing to different lexus garages to sort the flippin problem, the car had numerous geometry checks and always came back fine. You would get a vague felling on the road and extra tramlining on normal roads, no confidence to overtake and a sway feeling when driving above 70 - like its a windy day. However last fortnight ago I had lexus Reading look at it and the car was taken on a 40 mile test drive up and down the m4, they were then convinced that there was a problem and the steering rack has now been replaced (£3000 charge to Lexus). Keep persisting and stating it is not safe and they will have to rectifiy the problem, before the steering rack was changed it was a really poor drive. Now it seems like normal, responsive and confident.
  3. I have bridgestone tyres all around all with excellet tred life. I have driven both RWD and FWD. A friend has a IS 220d with same size tyres but it seems much more confident on the road/motorway. It is really frustrating especially as I have had the gemotry checked by lexus. I dont mind trying WIM and will give them a call. I just feel what is that they may be able to do that Lexus could not. :duh:
  4. My IS 250 seems to have really poor stability at anything above 50-60mph. The car seems to pull in no particular direction. The sensation feels like you are driving on a really windy day. It seems that you have to hold the steering really tight above 50 mph because as you brake it feels like it wants to really follow groves in the road. Had it back to Lexus who have re done the geometry settings but to be honest there feels no change. No Chance of driving confidenly above 80mph as it feels to sway to much. Does anyone have the same experience and whats the resolution!!
  5. I own a manual IS 250 se MM. The fuel consumption is really poor, it seems to cost me around £70 for a full tank and I never manage to get more than 260 miles out. The two figures reading for consumption on the dashboard have never read above 22 mpg. I have been told by lexus that this is normal, but I feel that I am being fobbed off. I do a mix of driving, 50% motorway, 50% in town. Any suggestions or do other manual drivers have similar consumption figures.
  6. I've got the same problem and relying on Lexus to replace all four as they did on my IS200 Sport. No quibble at all. Ive just had all four of mine replaced at Edgware Road. There was corrosion/bubbling on the front two and their aftersales just ordered 4 brand new alloys from Japan. Took two weeks to arrive. Car looks brand new again.
