  1. So...it's been a few years since I've logged into these boards. How is everyone? Are there many of the old faces still around? I still have the IS200, although she's spent most of the past 3 years garaged and driven only very occassionally. You won't find many 2001 IS's with only 50,000 on the clock! :) Bought a new house, got a new girlfriend, bought an MR2 and so as the finances took a big hit, the modded IS sadly took a back seat....but I didn't want to part with her! :) I still love the way the car looks, so in the coming months I'm going to start investing some time and money back in to her. A few exterior body modifications/improvements are planned...general (and probably much needed) TLC....a few engine tweaks in addition to whats there already and then she'll be back on the road as my daily use car. Going to give the MR2 to the girlfriend. Anyway, I'm going to check in here from time to time as I'm seriously out of touch with the Lexus scene these days and I will no doubt have some questions for you all. B)
  2. If I could go back I would do things a lot differently, get yourself a manifold upgrade and a new ECU followed by a remap and leave it at that. Save your money for bigger and better mods....much like the things that someone like SPC are offering at the moment, internals, turbo, etc. The problem is you have to go with whats available at the time...but there are now a lot more power upgrade options for the IS nowadays...a lot more!!!! Man I rememeber when I was one of only 5 or 6 S/C IS200's in the whole country! Back then power upgrades were your choice of an induction kit, a S/C, a back box and Unichip piggyback ECU...and all of those options cost an arm and a leg! When I wanted to move up from that I delt with TDi as they were the only people offering bigger and better upgrades at the time...well upgrades, facilities and engineers that I trusted! It was just a shame that you had to go through certain people to get to the skilled people who would work on your car...a lesser of two evils I guess! But I learnt a heck of a lot and now that the skilled engineers that know my car inside out are working elsewhere....I no longer need to deal with people that I don't want too! :winky:
  3. I forgot all about this build, I'll be honest I'm glad to see that you are still working hard on it mate...must be about what, 3 to 4 years you've been working on it I would think? Should be well impressive when you get it finished!
  4. yea i hear what you are saying, :D i just want to open the eyes of some on here who are thinking of doing some work on there IS, and that it dont have to cost 5K to get 90 BHP........if you know what im saying. and like i said befor im on no ones side but my own....:D So Marcus let me get this straight, you want me to put you right on the prices because you don't know how much I paid for each thing...yet you know it all came to around 5.5k.... ...sorry you've confused me a bit there mate! Isn't that one of those double negatives? Anyway, I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where I stated how much it all cost....rest assured readers of this thread, it was no where near 5.5k...I like spending money, but even I would draw a line at that! Just to help you a little bit, I spent 1k on the charger and fitted it myself...so that already puts a massive dent in your estimations doesn't really! ;) Oh and I'm glad to hear you're not on anyone's side, cause neither am I....come to think what sides are you talking about? I wasn't aware there was any! Like i said put me right on the price,s, and what do you do come out and have a pop at me, if you looked at my post, you will see what i was saying, and as for you telling us how much it all cost i must of missed that post could you point me to it, the prices i put up! are not 100% so please do put them right, but if you dont want to put the prices right thats cool i will look them up, just take me abit of time thats all.....:) Now now "fever" you sound just like someone els with the last bit of your post, :winky: Mate, I wasn't having a pop at you in the slightest...you just confused me with your posts thats all! In fact your reply above has confused me a bit again...who do I sound like? You can look up the prices if you like...difference is you don't know what I actually paid for anything...I haven't ever told anyone what I paid. But like I said, and in case you missed it, I didn't spend anywhere near 5.5k for my engine mods! I've already told you what I paid for the charger, so I'll give you another bit of info to help you with your calculations, I didn't pay anything for the manifold! ;) Back when TDi where developing it I agreed to let them test it on my car in returrn for a free one, which they fitted for free as well :o ...pretty cool eh! ;) So taking into account the manifold and the charger we are already easily £1500 under your original estimations! Anyway, I totally agree that you don't need to spend £5500 to get 90bhp from the IS, anyone that does that would be stupid!! It's all about how you approach it really, look out for good deals, be in the right place at the right time, buy parts you want but have them fitted by other people and fit parts yourself even where possible...etc etc.
  5. yea i hear what you are saying, :D i just want to open the eyes of some on here who are thinking of doing some work on there IS, and that it dont have to cost 5K to get 90 BHP........if you know what im saying. and like i said befor im on no ones side but my own....:D So Marcus let me get this straight, you want me to put you right on the prices because you don't know how much I paid for each thing...yet you know it all came to around 5.5k.... ...sorry you've confused me a bit there mate! 6. It is 110% the little black ECU that has gone....in fact I would go so far as to say 120%! Seriously dude, did you not read my PM...you are experiencing exactly the same problems I had! Not only that but you will get plenty of random issues while it's faulty! I got a new black ECU off TTE back then, which solved the problem, this has since been replaced by an HKS FCON VPro! Ignore the TTE engineer, thats what they tried to tell me back then...stop over thinking and over analyising it, get a black ECU off TTE or an HKS FCD, end of story, job done, problem solved!!!
  7. I have the Helix organic clutch....works perfectly, very little difference to standard feel either! I would highly recommend that you run a new clutch in properly!! I wouldn't attempt any heavy loaded pull-aways or high rev/redline gear changes for at least 300 miles...drive smooth and sensibly for that time and then up the power on pull-aways gradually for a few days. If you are going to fit a lightened flywheel, I would do it when/if you have a new clutch fitted, since you have to remove one to fit the other....saves on labour costs in the future obviously!
  8. Yeah it was an Apexi mate, man that was a few years back too...loved that exhaust, but unfortunately I blew the baffles out of it :D so I opted for a HKS Silent Hi Power, which sounds lovely with the TDi manifold...very subtle but lights up a bit when you floor it! I like less noise these days...getting old! :P
  9. No I said that I work in avionics, flight operations and air to ground (ACARS) VHF and Satcom datalinks services....oh and I've spent the past 9 years working "hands on" with different aircraft for different airlines all over the world! ;) Plus nobody has told me it was pilot error....the people you speak to was reference to the comment you made about TDi. Anyway, if you know about ACARS then you will also know about things like engine trend monitoring and fault reporting systems. You will also know that during a flight an aircraft sends downlink messages in their thousands based on everything that occurs on the aircraft, from a block toilet, a faulty VDU, to a heavy landing, to fueling issues and even actions and errors made by a pilot during a flight...the messages also get more informative during take off and landing and it does all this without any human intervention! Wouldn't it be cool if you had full access to all this information eh! Well anyway, thats probably enough of all that before this thread goes off topic again!
  10. they dont have a good reputation on quite a few forums and mkiv forums especially. you cant compare BA and the shi!e work from tdi as the BA incident is a one off and 99% a design issue but if it was a pure maintenance fault then you could make the comparison. Oh many of u know i am an aircraft engineer but i wont fly BA - take from that what u will..... You must speak to different people to me then Rob! Anyway, like I said I personally have no issues, so why should I jump on the band wagon to slate them....I know that you have long standing issues with TDi anyway, for what ever reason, so can we let it drop! Oh and by the way...it wasn't a design issue, it was a pilot issue! ;) Oh and I work in avionics, flight operations and air to ground (ACARS) VHF and Satcom datalinks...I have access to a lot of information.... ;) and I'll still fly BA....take from that what you will... :P
  11. Ok listen guys, i'm not defending TDi for any mess ups they may have made on other peoples cars! I speak as I find things and for now I'm happy with the work that was done on my car by them! Back then I had engine mods in place that had never been tried or seen on an IS200 before...sure there were problems in the beginning and I did get annoyed, but they were always resolved for me when I got back in contact with TDi! There were certain things that I would have done differently looking back, but at the same time I'm also pleased with what was achieved. Regarding the dyno, it was done at TDi when the mods were first put in place....over 2 years ago now...I saw the dyno graph and I had a copy till my briefcase where it was kept was stolen! TDi have one of the best dyno's in the country and a very good friend of mine took his Supra, that he has been building for some years, there a few weeks back, the results were about 10bhp out from the readings he's had at other places, TDi's actually being a slightly lower reading. He took his mapper with him and they were both very impressed! Take from that what you will. I am however planning to get my car re-dyno'd soon at another place, so I will for sure let you all know the outcome of that! I guess that you have to look at it in this way...TDi have gotten to a very high status in the car modifying business and achieved things that many have not! You don't get to that level of success by doing things wrong! The work on Mat's white IS transplanting the 2JZ was awesome and some of the Supras that they have built are simply mind blowing! They do, believe it or not, have a good reputation outside of LOC for building safe, quick cars! In my experience anyone sitting in that kind of position and charging a lot for their work is going to come under fire from their competition and people that want to see them fall! Its the nature of business! British Airways is one of the safest airlines in the world, but they stacked a plane on the runway at Heathrow some months back....does that mean all their planes are unsafe and I should stop flying with them? In my eyes, make informed decisions...not ones based on hearsay! While we are at it, could a mod clean this thread up a bit for me please, its gone waaaaaay off topic!
  12. Ahh Poalo! :D Still loitering around here then I see! ;) Yeah Supra may be on the cards...why did you get rid of yours mate?
  13. Or if he wants to be modest 230 ....well we all know that some dyno's give pants readings! :winky: So maybe you should be modest and say 220...and then that still leaves me in the lead what ever way you look at it!! :P
  14. What sort of thing are you thinking mate, anything taking your fancy yet? There are some serious bargains to be had in this climate now :D Thats is true for sure mate! Thing I have been thinking are.. Supra, Evo Lancer, Skyline...something along those lines...I still dont need a sensible car for anything so I've been thinking what the hell! But we will see....
