  1. Firstly, thanks to all of the replies on assistance with insurance - that is now being worked on now. I have now acquired my 91H LS400 with 167k and full service history. The only thing on the car inop is the air con readout which appears a common problem - sure I can live with it for a while !!! I will however need to rectify some bodywork issues and wondered if there are any panel differences on the early cars i.e doors bumpers etc? I need to hopefully replace the 2 drivers side doors to save repairs due to dents etc (if anyone has 2 res metallic doors that would fit a 91 im interested). I would also like to get a spare key cut (assume there is no immobiliser in the key?) and would like to get a remote key to work the locking etc - any help or guidance will be very much appreciated. Will no doubt have a million q's over the next short while but am looking forward to the experience of both the car and the forum
  2. Just about to take on a 91 LS400 as a 2nd car project and wondered if any of you could recommend an insurance co for some reasonable insurance. As I use my full ncb for my family car and am probably only looking at third party for a fairly low mileage (5kish a year) if anyone can offer advice I would very much appreciate it. Thanks in advance and looking forward to some comfortable chilled drives in the coming months

  4. Okay, no offence. Just my first thought. Haven't heard of anyone having that kind of whining sounds. The fuel consumption problems have been covered from just about every angle. Things that have been considered to have an effect include (but are not limited to) the fifth fuel injector, EGR, DPF, excess weight, driving habits, engine temperature, high idling revs, sulphur content of the fuel used and crappy engine design. Some of these might have an impact, some of them might not. All I can say for sure is that I get 48 mpg regularly and lately 50+ hasn't been unusual at all. Hi Finlex. None taken. Maybe my wife would say that its the excess weight on me thats having an effect?? The only good news is that we only keep them until they have covered 10k miles and then hand them back - but at 30mpg it will be a costly 10k!!! I could do 50+ in the Audi but thats now a distant dream. Thanks for your help - its very much appreciated.
  5. Finlux. The whine is present from 1000 rpm and is definately not turbo whistle. I always keep the revs down as low as possible as thats where the torque is and it should be more economical than revving its head off
  6. Said they couldnt tell what the noise was unless they stripped it down and that mid 30s is what we should expect to get. When pressed that this is way short of Lexus's claims and the easy 48 I used to get on my previous Audi A6 2.0 Tdi, he spouted some pants about the fact its a cleaner burning engine than the A6 - actually its got a higher CO2 than the A6 and it certainly aint cleaner burning on my wallet - more like burning a hole in it!!!
  7. Having now had my IS220d SE MM for a month and covered approx 3000 miles, I took the car into Lexus Glasgow to investigate the fuel consumption (started at 40 and is now down to 30). I also asked if they would investigate a whine from the engine which I can only liken to a belt being too tight - the whine increases with the revs and never goes away. They tell me (after 15 minutes of revving the nuts off it in the workshop) that there is no fault and that the MPG is within tolerances and acceptable (even though it was reading 28 when I got back into the car). Has anyone else experienced this whine from the engine or have any clues as to any other course of action? I intend having Lexus Edinburgh have a look as am very aware that Lexus Glasgow is operated by Arnold Clark - enuf said!! Any help/assistance/advice greatly appreciated.
  8. Quick update on the new car. Just done a 500 mile round trip covering a fair amount of stop start motorway. a lot of town and some motorway at 80 on cruise with a 20 mile cross country full throttle blat at the end!!! Average of 40.9 over the entire journey which I am fairly impressed with, given some reports on this forum of scary low/mid 30s!! Very comfortable and very quiet at speed and love the rear wheel drive after an Audi A6. Toys are fantastic and seating is really comfortable as well. Am just awaiting delivery of a 5litre container of DPS4 (can anyone advise how to measure the correct dose/double dose per tank given it comes in a plain 5 litre drum? Also, any ideas on where to obtain an Ipod charger which will fit in the aux circuit and allow the lid to close (already have a slimline 3.5 jack plug???)
  9. Widsor Blue maybe has replaced Canterbury. Very dark (almost Black in some light). Will only keep the car for 10k as thats the company policy so will be approx 3 months but looking forward to it. MPG seems to be a worry already - when the car was delivered yesterday, it had done 390 miles and was averaging 34.9 mpg and the bulk of that was motorway - yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. New car finally arrived today - IS 220d SE MM in Windsor Blue. Still trying to figure out how to close the centre armrest with the ipod charger in but im sure ill work it out. Also trying to figure out where the sat nav disc goes but ill work that one out as well. Notes DVD/sound system seems superb. Reverse camera good if a bit weird at first glance, precious little room in the rear but a cracking looking car overall and my next door neighbour (02 GS300) seems to think its OK. Here's to the next 10000 miles before we change again
  11. the pants mpg punters are a minority, get some dps4. Cheers for that - where can I get DPS 4? And any cluse on the headlamp bulbs as your car is ident? Cheers
  12. H All. Im a newby to the site and just about to take delivery of an IS 220dSE and am trying to find out which headlamp bulbs it takes - have done extensive searches on Google and the net in general and cant find any info. Reason for the request is its my first car in 3 years without xenon's and with the kind of driving I do, I dont want to be without them. The old model used to be listed as HB4 or 9006 - can anyone advise please as even Lexus Customer service cant seem to advise???? Like the forum althought the 220d sems to have a reputaion for pants MPG etc - fingers crossed !!!!! Cheers in advance
