  1. Hi all, I currently have a stock GS300SE (non-navigator) and I would like to fit a sat-nav. Ideally I would like to fit the OEM Lexus navigator from a scrapped GS. However I am aware of three problems:- Wiring - The GS navigator may have a different wiring loom. Some manufactures cut production cost by fitting the same loom to all versions, so if I am lucky I can just plug in the required components. DVD - the sat-nav needs a dvd drive, or at least I will have to temporarily connect it to one to read the disk (which I will need to get hold of as well) or I could read the DVD onto a CD using my computer, but this would be unlikely to work I guess. GPS antenna - The system needs a GPS antenna, but is this included in the sat-nav head unit? The slightly easier option is to rip out the existing stereo and replace it with a DIN facia and fit an aftermarket such as the Navman iDN 3000 (7" screen) which would also play DVDs and connect to a rear view camera, games console etc. The slight fly in the ointment is that the DIN facias I have seen are all black, but my beige GS interior has brown facias. Also such a unit will be attractive to theves, wheras no-one would try to take the OEM unit. Thoughts anyone?
  2. I have a black sport GS 300 with tinted windows, 20 speakers, 20" rims and well pimped. From purchase I installed a Clifford Perimter Voice Alarm. If anyone goes close to the car it chirps and I can adjust the range at which it can be triggered and have had to do so on occasions. It can also go on voice where it tells the person to back away when they get too close. No one can get close to it to look inside as the alarm will go off. It is the best purchase I made after the car. I also know when traffic wardens get close and it alert drivers parking too close to it in car parks. My friend had his less than 12 months old GS stolen. They broke into his house, took the keys downstairs and drove off the car. He and his family were sleeping upstairs. The insurance replaced the car with a new one and several months later they found his car in Dubai with 70 Mercedes and 33 lexus. They got details of his car and address from DVLA and were well organised. If someone is going to break into your house when you are there, chances are they are armed and usually have an accomplice. whoa this sounds nasty, I can see that leaving the keys near to the door is a lot better than being given a wake up by an angry car thief. I remember the ghost dog scene. In fact I think that was subliminally at work when I bought my GS.

A Porche on my drive way??!! Nice car, but I found the driving position to be low for my taste. Certainly felt like a million dollars driving this around with the top down. Sadly I don't think my friend really was comfortable driving it and it sat in his garage 95% of the time being driven no more that 5000 miles over four years. You can just see my old Nissan Almera in the background, we still have this car which though small and old has done sterling service. My Maxima was probably in the garage behind the almera in this photo

This is my favourite car (that I have owned) we used it as our wedding car (a family friend drove us to and from the ceremony) and though it needed some expensive repairs right after I bought it, over the five years I had it, it always brought a smile to my face when driving it or just looking at it. We drove it around Europe and the UK when despite having a three litre engine it would return over 35mpg on a long motorway run. It was quite good as a wedding car and did a similar service for some friends (I acted as chauffeur on that occasion). It was not all that good at high speed corners, the ride was set for comfort not control, but it was fast when floored making a pleasing roar - though I rarely did this as it was a high mileage car at 130k when I bought it and 180K when I sold it.

This is a car from the GTA4 game. Many argue it is a GS MkI or MKII, but it is given a made up name. What do you think?

this is another car from the GTA 4 game which bares a passing resemblance to a LEXUS GS MkII. These cars may be rare in the UK but are a big seller in the US so it's appearance in a computer game is not so odd. However the Rockstar game developers deliberately change some details to avoid copyright problems with car manufacturers, grills and headlights are altered just enough to make definitive identification impossible, plus they change the car name. If you have this game look out for this car, is it a GS MkII ?
  8. Not my car but very similar
  9. This was what I considered buying prior to choosing a Lexus GS300

A blue GS300. Not mine though, I will add photos soon.

This Merc SLR is quite a car, even stationary it seems to be flying.

Volvos S80, is their flagship saloon car. Inside it doesn't feel that spacious due to massive pillars, centre console and door padding. Ride was on the harsh side for a cruiser, but handling was ok if a little dead. Overall a good taxicab, but I wasn't tempted to buy.

This is a Crown Victoria, they are only available in the UK as imports. From a couple of years ago Ford stopped selling them in the US to private buyers, but they sell thousands as taxis and police cruisers. This is a photo of an ex-NYPD car for sale in the UK fresh off the boat with about 20000 miles on the clock for £6000. It is tempting as you could probably chain down nuisance passengers in the rear and call for backup as it comes with all the NYPD modifications including ramming bars YES!!! And anti rupture/bullet kevlar shielding in the boot around the fuel tank. I doubt the ride is of Lexus quality as it has an old styl body/chassis combo, ideal for ramming miscreants off the highway. So put on the bluesbrothers CD and bomb down to the seaside. For extra kudos you can also buy these cars with the original light and police markings. so go on "protect and serve"

Chrysler will do anything to shift the 300C, including selling the car with a girl included.

The de Ville is the ultimate statement in US style frugality. Space, Pace, Grace; it could only score on the first and possibly the last (whilst stationary). Apparently as reliable as NATO allies, the electrics on this car are well below par. Having said that few others have made the leap of faith here in the UK, so why not?

Very similar to my 02 Lexus GS300, except I don't have it in this beige colour, or is it gold?
  17. From the album: general images

Deeply Germanic, deeply luxurious, in an understated way. This was executive motoring for the cold war years. Sadly increasingly rare in the UK, but to me always a welcome sight. Think Bratwurst on a doilly.

Not my car, not my house. The 300c is most often seen in black because it looks cool, but buyers should consider something less light absorbing. How else can we appreciate the svelte looks?
  19. Hi, I have A GS300 Mk 2 with similar knocking at low speed over bumps. Also I have just had new brakes discs and pads, so it could be the calliper sliding pin wear problem, however the noise sounds more like something loose in suspension. I will check both bushes and brake sliding pins. Can these be checked without dismantling anything? It is a little disappointing that the 'silent' ride effect is spoiled under these driving conditions.
  20. Hi, I notice the same thing on my GS300 Mk2. Sounds like something in the suspension is loose, could this be ball joints or worn bushes?
