  1. Window switch down for 10 secs, up for 10 secs, usually wakes it back up on the bus network.
  2. There is an audio warning when you're very close, it's sort-of an expensive-sounding crunching noise.....
  3. My windows fell off the car network after being disconnected for some trim work - at each window, hold it Down for 5 secs, then Up for 5 secs, then should rejoin the network. May have been the other way round, or longer than 5 secs, but it's something like that.
  4. When I bought my RX400h new in 2008, the Satnav was locked out on the move. I did a map update in around 2011 and it unlocked the majority of the functions on the move, just by inserting the new map DVD. There are now no lockouts at all on any of the Nav functions, and its reasonably easy for driver/passenger to, say, find nearest parking without first having to park, or dally at traffic lights frantically selecting a new destination. About the only thing now locked is the ability to dial numeric phone numbers - only use the quick access numbers - although I vaguely recall from experimenting at the time it WAS still possible to go into the address book, type in full contact details of someone, add them as a quick access... and then dial them (well thought through, very safe).
  5. The detailed instructions I used look like they've evaporated but you can get some clues from www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/59417-RX400h-reversing-lights/ Haven't tried the LED bulb idea.
  6. It is pretty awful. There is a shield around the bulb that you can remove, instruction on this forum somewhere (I found them 8 years ago trying to solve the same issue), it improves it a bit but it's still not brilliant (literally or figuratively). I'll see if I can find the link.
  7. Hi, and welcome. I have an 08 RX400h which had the same problem in the cold last week - started fine later on in the morning. Lexus diagnosed it as a cell starting to fade on the 12v battery - original since new - and I've replaced it (Lexus charged £95 all in), apparently 7 years is a reasonable life, do you know whether yours has been replaced ever? Disconnecting and reconnecting shouldn't have any effect unless you think it's an issue with the connection to the battery - which would probably have wider effects.
  8. Agree about the test afterwards - Autoglass etc usually do a water-spray test and cover the screen to do a functional check, but a poorly-bonded sensor mount issue might not show up until you get some rain.
  9. Have had Autoglass replace my RX400h screen a few times over eight years - straightforward. The overall rain sensor system has a mounting bracket that comes bonded onto the screen from the screen manufacturer, so the screen changeout involves unclipping the rain sensor from the bracket (the sensor wires into the top of the rear view mirror mounting), gel back out, old screen off, new screen on, gel pack in, rain sensor clips back on to bracket on new screen, game on. Only time I've ever had a problem was on one occasion when the bracket on the screen wasn't bonded properly (manufacturing fault), the lens thus wasn't flush to the screen, and the sensor was triggering when there was no rain (or vice versa).
  10. I don't think there's a Hill Start Assist, I don't remember it in the manual for my '08 RX, and I've never noticed any symbology coming up after prolonged braking. Yes, it can roll back a bit on steep hills, sounds like yours is OK. Think it's a feature of CVT gearboxes, I had an Audi with a 'multitronic' (CVT) gearbox and it also could roll back on steep hills - conventional autos do as well but it seems they can tolerate more of a gradient. The RX doesn't roll back far/fast, but you do need to be aware of it (and roughly what gradient it happens on) so you can switch feet to left-foot brake before moving off. Or, I suppose, could use the foot-handbrake, which I have probably used nearly ten times in 3 years.
  11. It depends - best to have your current DVD handy (for serial number) and check out http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/
  12. Urban MPG = 30 Urban MPG Auto = 40 Combined MPG Auto= 34.9 Er, that don't make any sense....where did the "auto" nomenclature come from, there is ONLY auto RXs. I think you got your list mixed about a bit. Er... indeed, it doesn't, does it?! I grabbed them off the first website that came up: http://www.usedcarexpert.co.uk/cars/lexus/rx/specs-stats/mpg, only really paid attention to the Combined figure, I assumed the others were urban and extra urban, but didn't check the words. Beats me what it meant - doesn't make much sense for an auto - even CVT - to be that much better than a manual, if one even existed. OK, http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/search/usedcar/vehicleDetails.asp?id=59023 says Fuel Consumption - Imperial [mpg] Imperial Urban (cold) 31.0 Imperial Extra Urban 37.2 Imperial Combined 34.9
  13. Well said. I'm sure we each have own own opinions on where civility has faded in and out of this thread. Acabucca, do let us know if you get any further with this - my car's on a lease (and thus somewhat untouchable) for a while longer but if I buy it at the end this is something I'd be interested in.
  14. Some good economy runs recently in better weather and am getting 32mpg. Re your initial question '23-26 mpg... is not acceptable in this day and age', well, although I think your's is a bit low, the RX400h's economy is pretty good compared to petrol cars of similar performance/refinement, and once you've learned how to drive it to exploit the hybrid you can see noticeable improvements. The manufacturer's official figures (always assume optimistic given the test profile) are: Urban MPG = 30 Urban MPG Auto = 40 Combined MPG Auto= 34.9 So if a Lexus dealer sold it to return 36 mpg, and you've got that written down somewhere, then you have been mis-sold and should put in a claim. Let us know how that goes...!
  15. I think it depends on the year, they shifted model designations and equipment fit around a bit, but around early 2008 when I bought mine the position was: SE - no display screen, no nav etc. SE Multimedia - display screen, nav, Mark Levinson stereo (comes with the nav) SE-L - as multimedia PLUS rear seat DVD system. So you're right, there is no difference between an SE with multimedia and one with multimedia and satnav - the multimedia is the satnav, screen and everything that comes with it (including ML stereo which can play DVDs in the front). The remaining confusion was that there was an option on the SE Multimedia to add rear-seat DVD/screen, sometimes called the ICE option. This would make it an SE-L in all but badge. Someone might be mis-referring to the rear-seat DVD/screen fit as 'multimedia' although Lexus use that to refer to the front display screen and the associated toys.
  16. Depends which model you have, look up http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/ (and you'll need your disc handy for the part number).
  17. Upgraded in 2009: newer map but still only 4-character postcode. Dubiously worth upgrading just for that, but the real benefit was unlocking most of the satnav functions while the car is in motion.
  18. Blimey, what a unnecessarily emotive discussion. I've had cars in the US with remote start for exactly that and it was very useful. The car would start from a reasonable distance away (maybe 30yards), remain locked, alarmed, and the car wouldn't move off until the 'key' (a Keyless Go-style keyfob) was close to the car - a few feet, much closer than the range the remote start would work at. So about as secure as it is when parked and switched off, unless someone could trick the engine management into ignoring the absence of a key (in which case they're probably smart enough to get into the car anyway). It let me run the car for that useful few minutes to get the heating running, seats warmed up, break the back of the defrosting etc. An important factor is whether the engine management immobiliser is reliant on the key being physically in the ignition (as it is in a 400h, maybe easier in a 450h with keyless entry/go), as disabling/bypassing that requires messing with the immobiliser/engine management and a potential world of ensuing issues. I'd like to have it over here in the UK, however I believe (and seems to be confirmed after a quick surf) that it's illegal in the UK to have an unattended car running (locked or otherwise) - definitely on public roads, not sure how far that applies off-road e.g. driveways, sometime the law applies more than you might think there as well. I would expect there's technically/legally no difference between an unattended car remotely started and one which has been manually started, then locked with a separate key whilst the owner nips back indoors while it defrosts. Which may be why we don't hear about remote start much in the UK. There seem to be a few aftermarket kits/installers on the web - Falcon Predator gets a lots of hits - but doesn't say much about compatible vehicles or the Law.
  19. Your camera sounds pretty representative; in the dark the reversing lights illuminate the back bumper a bit but otherwise the prince of darkness is abroad... Part of the problem is a light deflector within each reversing light cluster. It can be removed without too much grief, and certainly improves the light from mediocre to merely poor. Discussion and how-to from this link: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=59417&st=0&p=658289&hl=+reversing%20+light&fromsearch=1entry658289
  20. On some models more recent maps - eg 2009 onwards on my car - re-enable most of the on-the-move functions, in answer to your other question. Have a rummage around the forum, there are a few threads on this which might point you towards the magic maps for yours
  21. Hi - there are some other forums which talk about how to DISABLE the seatbelt bleep (which is usually the default), the instructions cover how to turn it on OR off. Here's one link, there are others. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=44536&st=0&p=465922&hl=+seatbelt%20+warning&fromsearch=1entry465922 Actually I'm surprised changing the battery has switched it off (I'd have thought it would default back to having the warnings on if they'd been previously disabled).
  22. Hi This is a US Lexus online manuals site but suspect if there are national differences they'll be small - at least lets you get the gist. http://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/info/my-lexus/resources/owners-manual-search.do Cheers
  23. Hi, and welcome to the forum. Two of the three answers for you (based on my 08 '400h, but I'm sure someone will advise if there are any differences...): 1) I find the Satnav function very good (comparing to previous Audi system), keeps satellite lock perfectly and works well with the touch-screen. Definitely get a fresh sat-nav DVD as the update in especially if you have a recent DVD (2009 onwards), as prior to this the sat nav locked out a lot of functions (eg changing destination) when in motion - they removed this lockout in late 2008-ish and it transformed the system - many posts elsewhere on this. It's got postcode search but only up to the first digit in the inward part of the post-code - i.e. SW1A 1) 2) Yes - from Lexus dealer or www.lexus-mapupdates.eu, was 159 euros back in April 2009 when I last bought mine. For the website you need to know the version number of your current DVD (printed on the disc itself, there are threads on the forum about how to get the DVD out). 3) Don't know specifically on iPhone but search on the forum, there are several threads about different phone connections. My experience is that bluetooth phones connect fine for making/receiving calls etc., but people have different degrees of success syncing up phone books - personally I didn't try (with Blackberry and Android phone), I just added the relevant handful of numbers in manually. Cheers
  24. Note for AndyTKD - "only thing i can see is that the SE-L has the multimedia Pack as standard, so would an SE with Multimedia pack be exactly the same as an SE-L? " Spot on with one exception - The models did drift around a bit since 2006 - in late 07 when I ordered mine there were (in addition to others) an SE, an SE-with-multimedia-pack, and an SE-L. SE (without pack) was just the standard 'dumb' dashboard. The SE-with-pack and SE-L both have the same multifunction display, Mark Levinson stereo, 6-DVD autochanger, rear camera, touch SatNav, (tape deck!) etc. The only difference at that time was that the SE-L had the independent rear in-car entertainment system (screens in back of headrests) as standard, whereas that was pretty much the only optional bit of kit in the SE-with-multimedia. So, front seat wise, at that time SE with multimedia pack was the same as an SE-L. If you wanted the rear screens then could buy them as an option or just by the SE-L (the only difference then being the badge on the back).
  25. Hi Yes, probably well worth an update, 159 euros from www.lexus-mapupdates.eu. Plenty of discussion elsewhere on the forum but main jump between disc fitted in my '08 car and the new '09 disc was unlocking most of the functions previously locked out in motion (everything apart from the phone, mainly). That made it a no-brainer by itself, let alone fresh maps. Cheers
