  1. Do they have a webcam? I was private nutless which quite relevant since I have one missing from testicular cancer many years ago..........
  2. Was the war justified? IMO yes Should the aftermath have been better planned? Absolutely, yes There is always a transition period with any war. Saddam kept the lid on things by fear. There are more killings now because he is not there to do them so his supporters do them. You cannot defend against suicide bombers. I am still covinced that in the long term, Iraq is a better place without Saddam.
  3. I agree and Zimbabwe too. However, you fight the battles that you can win. Just because you cannot do all of them does not mean that you do not do any.
  4. We can only know things from what we hear from the media, but given that I have not heard anyone say that the genocide commited by him was untrue, I think we can take it as fact. If this is the case, then this alone justifies the Iraq war and the arrest and trial of Saddam. What annoys me is how I government had to lie to us about the WoMD. Genocide is justification enough. If somebody had done this in Germany in 1936/37, maybe a lot more lives could have been saved. I do agree though that there should be a proper trial for Saddam......as long as he is found guilty :-)
  5. If the RX300 is anything like the LS400 then you have to have the mirror alteration joystick switched to the drivers side mirror. The passenger side should then auto tilt. Dont know about the folding though.
  6. As from tomorrow I will no longer be a Lexus owner. My beloved LS400 will be going to the great Honda dealer in the sky to be replaced with a Honda Accord Diesel. Unfortunately, Lexus do not do a diesel otherwise it would have been a no brainer. I would love an RX300 Hybrid but can neither afford it or wait that long. So, after an IS200 and the LS it is time to say goodbye to the world of Lexus and nice crunchy biscuits in the service waiting room. Rest assured that if Lexus bring out a diesel or a hybrid 200, I will be first in the queue. So long for now.... Bob
  7. I have a '98 MKIV with 115000 miles on the clock. Runs beautifuly and I get 25 to the gallon with normal driving (and I'm not slow!) and nearly 30 on a long run. It is exceptionally comfortable and has a touchscreen that controls most of the functions (Audio, Sat Nav, Climate Control etc.) Who needs i-Drive? The worst that you can say about it is that it has so-so handling (about what you would expect from a luxury car). Very fast (0-60 in just over 6 seconds) and I've had it up to 150 in Germany. The engine is very understressed. At 90 it is doing just 2900 rpm so it should last for ages. I know of other LS400s that have done over 300,000 miles and are still going strong.
  8. I don't disagree; show me one near a school or on a sharp bend in a side road; I would love to see them. Then count the ones on 6 lane A roads. Which ones make the most revenue as opposed to saving lives?
  9. My journey to work takes me through one of the most speed camera intensive routes that I know - A12 - Blackwall Tunnel - A2. There must be 10 cameras over a distance of roughly 20 miles. Having regularly observed the behaviour I would like to make a few points: I know where the cameras are so I ensure that if I have to slow down, it is gradual and normally using the gears on the inside lane so that people can overtake if they want to. Others are not so considerate; heavy sudden breaking, 'undertaking', swerves into other lanes etc. are all dangerous and cause an additional hazard that would not be there if the cameras were absent. Just checking the speed does not check how people are driving. Every day I see exceptionally stupid driving, frankly, some of it from me when frustration overcomes my desire to be safe. Due to the total absence of police (I can’t remember the last time I saw a patrol car, marked or otherwise), this is doomed to continue. Conclusion: A road that was previously free flowing has been made dangerous and 'lumpy' by the addition of an excessive number of cameras. Dangerous driving is totally ignored but I bet that the revenue is fantastic (I see several flashes a day on my short journey). Where will the revenue go? More cameras I suspect. P.S. If anybody has accident stats for this road (before and after the cameras) I would be very interested to hear them.
  10. trying to think logically (hard for me, I'm in IT!) is there a fuse for the climate control; perhaps its gone?
  11. When you say the screen goes grey, do you mean the icons or the whole screen. If just the icons, then turn off the auto climate facility and they should come back. Apologies if you've already tried this but sometimes its the simplest things.......
  12. My headlight bulb went on my LS400 mkIV. It cost.....wait for it...........£185!!! :o Since the other one is likely to go quite soon, does anybody know a cheaper alternative to the Lexus part? I've owned some cars that are cheaper than that bulb...... Very bright though B)
  13. Not sure about mercs etc. but on my Mk IV (112000 miles) doing the same exercise, I get over 30 to gallon. Pretty good for a 4 litre V8.
  14. Does anyone know where I can get a new wooden gear knob for a '98 LS400 mk IV. I've seen them on LS400s across the pond but my local Lexus dealer (Woodford) assures me that they are not available over here. My existing leather one is looking very warn and ruins a good interior. Thanks for your help.
  15. I've got a '98 400 with 105,000 miles on it and it goes like its brand new. When I bought it I was shown service histories of cars with 300,000 miles on them which were still running well. The car is so over egineered and under stressed. At 90 mph, it runs at under 3000 revs. I would get it AA/RAC tested to check for any biggies and make sure the cam belts have been changed at the correct intervals (every 60,000). The only problem I see is when you come to sell it. Not many people want 250,000 mile plus cars. However if you just want it for the experience, not bothered about selling it and the price is right then go for it. Good Luck Bob
  16. I agree; excellent choice. I have a '98 LS400 with 104,000 miles on it and it still goes like its brand new. I also thought that they all came with CD changers so you might want to check. Cam belt changes are normally every 60,000 miles so your next one should be at 120,000! As for the age thing, I wouldn't worry. Very few so called sports cars can come close to beating it off the lights and none of them with such refinement. And its got a killer stereo that plays house music (modern stuff apparently!) better than the base binned honda civics that you see in my local high street. Enjoy!
  17. If you have any more litter tray deposits (or, indeed, the whole litter tray), then please address them to a Mr D Nash at Lexus Woodford who seems to be a one man NTL!
  18. In fact I was being ironic.....COBOL is by far the worst language ever invented. Agree with you about Pascal (and Argol) but now we are being nerdy and so everyone has gone to slee.........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....zzzzzzzzzzz
  19. Aaaaah, COBOL.......now there was a real mans language - none of this namby pamby Java rubbish! :D
