Are you after just your specific car or just generally all 460's

Just doing homework ahead of getting a 460 & due to health reasons this will probably be my last car & just trying to gauge possible repair costs as I'm no longer in work, but this car has always been a dream of mine to own & is number 1 on my bucket list & obviously coils will be cheaper to fix than air if it ever goes wrong.

    That's the spirit

And come on, who else out there has done that one way train ticket thing where so long as the car isn't presented to you in a cardboard box then you're driving the damn thing home? I have. More than once

I thought I was the only one that did that

  3. I'm trying to some homework about buying an 07/08 460 se-l, but just have a couple of questions regarding them.
Audio : do all the early cars come with Bluetooth & can you play music from your phone direct to the headunit or is it just for the phone & can you still update the satnav maps.
Seats : do they still have the massage facility like in the 430 because couldn't see it on the rear switches.

Personally I do like to change the vents both as to position and intesity and often the passenger asks for variation.

I have just rememebred that I have a USB short flexible stem computer light but I don't see why I have to have something plugged into the Cigar socket and waving about in the car just so I can see controls which should be lit.

Daresay later model Cars have better.

PS sure the S Class did if not all Mercs. Just seems sensible.for night driving.

Both of my old S Class & the E55 had illuminated vent wheels, really handy & looks really nice at night as well.

2001 GS430, Heater stopped working, exhaust fell off, various creaks from dashboard and roof lining.

2002 LS430, Transmission completely failed without warning resulted in car being scrapped, blown speakers, electric mirrors stopped working, heated and cooled seats not working, rear climate pipes rusted.

2006 GS450H, Hybrid battery failed, various creaks and rattles, brake callipers seized

2006 GS450H, Shock absorbers failed, radiator failed, TPMS issues, creaks from dashboard, xenon headlight issues, juddering brakes.

These are the main issues I’ve had, there are various other minor issues and niggles I haven’t listed.

The worst was the transmission on the LS430 and the hybrid battery on the GS450H, both of which failed without warning and left me completely stranded with repair bills costing £thousands. Many other problems are what you might call minor but from a prestige manufacturer that prides itself on build quality and reliability is unacceptable. May be I’ve been exceptionally unlucky but it certainly puts you off, especially when the repair bills for Lexus are so high. I’ve owned jags and mercs with no issues, I currently own a mk3 Mondeo 2.5 V6 Ghia X which I’m really happy with and has made me realise that in my experience Lexus are overrated. At least if something does go wrong with the mondeo I won’t have to remortgage the house to fix it.

Blimey that is a surprise & I'm the same as you, I've never had any issues with any of my Merc's.

Totally agree, my wifes Jag is only 13 years old but has more corrosion than you care to know about.  She managed to get the welding done really cheap (by chap who welds trucks) and he said, in another 2 to 3 years be prepared to scrap the motor.   On looking Jag forum I have decided she is not having a another Jag.  Maybe back to Honda for her, though she was tempted by a GS300 a while ago.

On Kens comment, I have never owned a Merc, but my mates who do have deep pockets, and all the other marques mentioned I would have said Vauxhall was better than the rest, but not anything like as reliable as Lexus.  Appreciate LS versus your average Vauxhall, at a price level is not fair, but know of two VW Phaeton Owners who have deep pockets and car in garage more often than not.

This forum is like a gentlemans club, it's quite, all its members are gentlemen and we we all know our cars are rock solid (maybe like 67 Pall Mall), and so we can just get on with reading the Times and smoking our pipes (or in my case, the gardening, DIY projects and listening to vinyl records - when my teenage lad is not hogging the best stereo in the house).

I was thinking of a 2006 Jag XJ (the aluminium body x350) which I think have come a long way for reliability plus there's so many places to get new parts from which is a bonus & even had the ridiculous idea of a Pheaton TDI but not won the lottery yet to repair it, but I have had 6 mercs with no issues to speak of, but want my next car to be an LS 430 & can't wait to get one

  7. I'm back after a 10yr absence from Lexus ownership & in this time I've had 2 x Merc S500's, 1 E55 & various other cars but I'm wanting to get an LS430 next year as I've had some news that has forced me to make a bucket list, & on this list is to own another LS so the saving has started.

It feels good to be back.
