  1. This is the remote that came with the car. Unfortunately there is no part number I can see or trace anywhere. Hope it helps.
  2. Having experimented with Pirelli and Bridgestone equivalents, I have reverted to the Michelin Latitude Tour, which were the initial factory fitted ones. The difference the Michelin ones make in tyre noise is quite impressive. With the Pirellis, for example, I couldn't even hear the radio at at any normal volume level driving on a motorway at 70miles/hr. I usually let the pump attendant deal with tyre pressures, but I believe they first look for info on the inside of the driver's door for guidance.
  3. Don't get me wrong on the noise, though. When running on a good surface the Lexus feels more like a gliding in the clouds. The noise from the tyres is just my finicky niggle.
  4. My RX400h is a 2008 model and has clocked 130,000 miles. It has had both the motor battery and main computer replaced at separate times by Lexus as it was a recall model. It remains one of the best drives I have ever had and with regular servicing has given me no other problems. Nevertheless it is not as quiet a ride as that of luxury European SUVs. Whilst engine noise is on a par, tyre noise can be a problem. Choose your tyres well. I have found the original factory fitted Michelin ones to be the best.
  5. I have owned my RX400 for nine years now and I have always had problems with the sunroof operation. You press the buttons a little bit more or less than 'required' and something completely different to the desired effect happens. I rarely open it. With a lot of trial and error you get it closed shut again but for me it's not worth the effort.
  6. Just to correct a mistake in my first reply the dashboard screen does NOT connect to the DVD player. Nor does the sound transmit over the car speakers. My car is a 2007 model. Yes there are covers for the headrest monitors. One does not realise that there is anything beneath them and I always surprise people when I take them off. Both screens show same content. There is a remote control that comes with the DVD player. I believe that the headphones come with a built in frequency, but now that you have mentioned it I will check and see if the can be fine tuned to reduce the hiss. There are no sockets on the screens. There are however loose connectors housed in one of the pockets at the back of the front seats that may be used to connect other devices to the DVD/monitors system.
  7. My car had option 2 fitted. It has only one DVD reader under the driver's seat. The dashboard screen does connect to the DVD player. The infrared wireless headphones provided do not work seamlessly and make a constant hiss, presumably because the signal, that comes from transmitters fitted to both rear door frames, is too weak. My children prefer using their own tablets instead.
  8. I noticed the same 'problem' when the driver's seat started getting more worn on the one side as I kept seating askew because of the suspension 'tilt'.
  9. My RX400h is a 2005 SEL model with 69000 miles on the clock. I am not a car enthusiast, nor a DIY mechanic but I can give you my experience as a driver/owner in layman's terms: 1/ The car has not exhibited any major faults. Engine, hybrid system, electronics, interior, exterior are still in pristine condition. Minor niggles, the slightly less than advertised petrol consumption (at best 29-30 mpg), the short life car battery (not the hybrid engine related one), the i-phone incompatibility of the on-board telephone provision, the (excellent) computer touch screen that does not include the car stereo, the lack of ventilated front seats and four way temperature control. 2/ Major service charges are about half those I regularly paid for my equivalent M-series Merc. I have always used a Lexus garage. Last service at 60000 cost just under £200. Never escaped the Merc garage for less than £400. 3/ After seven years I can vouch for the reliability of the car/model. NB There was a batch or individual cars that had to be withdrawn or have serious factory faults fixed - I believe problems related to the steering wheel and break system computers. Check that the particular car you are interested in is not one of them or get an updated guarantee for the parts replaced. If you enjoy driving a safe, incredibly smooth, comfortable, reliable car that can also amaze you with its reserves of power, this is the one for you.
  10. I bought a used 400h SEL from Lexus Chester in 2007 for £29,000. It already clocked 39,000 miles even though barely a year and a half old, but had a full service record, one careful owner and was in mint condition. I have had no problems at all with the car. Compared with the BMW (5 series) and Mercedes (M series) cars I have owned in the past I can honestly say it is the best family car I have ever driven and by far the cheapest to maintain (fuel, service etc.). It now clocks 59,000 miles and the fuel consumption is on average 30.5 mpg. I tend to get more mpg's using cruise control on motorway rides.
  11. I have a 2006 RX400h and my combined average is 29.9-30.1 mpg. I get a better figure using cruise control on the Motorways. The trick to urban driving is to let the electric motors do the initial accellerating and to allow as much "99.9mpg" driving as possible. Hi Bill, I have owned the Lexus hybrid since July of 2005. We are only getting 23-24 mph on the highway and the same in town, so you are doing much better. How do you get such great mileage? Steve I have no idea why you are getting such low MPG. The worst I've had is 27mpg on a run. If I keep to 60mph I can get 32mpg. bill
  12. Is there a way of transfering data such as phonebooks from a Nokia mobile to the car computer?
  13. If I keep to 60mph I can get 32mpg. bill I have owned an RX 400h since December 2007 and the worst fuel consumption I have ever recorded was 27mpg. The normal indication hovers around 31mpg combined motorway/city journeys. Use of Cruise Control whenever possible and allowing motors rather than engine to start the car rolling after each stop helps in this direction.
