  1. Might get away with it in an MoT but I wonder what position insurance companies would take if a pedestrian were injured having not heard an "acoustic vehicle alert system" that was found to have been deliberately muffled.
  2. Thanks all. I've done a little research and found it's called "acoustic vehicle alert system" or "vehicle proximity notification system". I agree a V8 rumble would be a much better noise! It's tempting to muffle it with gaffer tape but as you guys have said it is a legal requirement for electric vehicles in the UK and various other countries and shouldn't, therefore, be disabled. I couldn't find anything specific for the UX250h but this 2012 post might show a similar system on the CT200h: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ct-200h-model-2011-2017/622054-vehicle-proximity-notification-system.html or this 2019 post re the RX450h system: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-4th-gen-2016-2022/933897-disabling-vehicle-proximity-notification-system-vpns-2020-rx-450h.html
  3. Driving slowly with only the electric motor running my 2023 UX250h makes a kinda dry rubbing sound. Inside the car with windows closed it's hardly noticeable but friends standing outside have commented on the noise. I'm not particularly concerned and was intending leaving it until it's first service in July but wondered if others have noticed a similar noise? Is it perhaps an intentional noise to warn pedestrians?
  4. I asked Lexus and was told it's not possible. I've a 2023 UX250h.
  5. Blackcircles list a few alternative run flat tyres for the UX250h havinhttps://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/225-50-18?runflat=1 Most have rolling resistance ratings of C or D. According to this, the impact on fuel economy of tyres with different rolling resistance ratings can be significant especially at higher speeds: https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/2014/6/18/real-world-tyre-economy-ratings-out-of-step-with-labelling/52721/
  6. Hi all, I've got a 2023 UX Takumi, with the latest large screen and multimedia system. When I try the map update option I get the message "Problem with map update. Please contact your dealer." The map is an older version than a friend's got in his UX. Mine is version 12-23-05|2022-09-5 his is 12-23-45|2023-03-5 Min is 2023 - 2024 Ver.1, didn't take a photo of this screen in my friend's. I have tried updating whilst ensuring the car is connected to our home WiFi. Does anyone know if it's something I'm doing wrong, eg do I have to update the car software or is it something I really need the dealer to sort out? Many thanks, Roger
  7. I had similar concerns so bought a Stoplock Pro Elite following a recommendation from another owner.
  8. You can if you install the Navibridge app on your mobile phone.
  9. I think most new cars are delivered with tyres pumped to a higher than normal pressure. Possibly to minimise flat spots on tyres if the car is stored for long periods. However, tyre pressures should be set correctly as part of pre-delivery inspection.
  10. Have got a StopLock Pro Elite steering wheel lock which, like the Disclock, provides a visible deterrent. The main problem is remembering to fit it. The DiscLock might be a little clumsy but you need to ensure it fits over the lump in the centre of the UX's steering wheel. Alternatively maybe plates can be fitted under the wheel arches or aftermarket Canbus immobilisers are available for c£500 eg Ghost and Starline.
  11. The visibility of a steering wheel lock is perhaps it's biggest advantage.
  12. Good question. It'd be good to know. I've bought a StopLock Pro Elite steering wheel lock which is a real, heavy weight deterrent but it is a faff to fit.
  13. Before getting my 2023 UX I had a test drive in the earlier model UX. My impression was that the newer Bridgestone runflat tyres give a better ride and are quieter. But that could of course be also partly due to the suspension tweaks introduced in the facelift. Might be worth seeing if you can get a test drive in a 2023 UX. I'm pleasantly surprised by the ride and noise levels in my UX and that's after having had a Merc with air suspension and I do suffer with some back problems and I had a hip replaced a couple of years ago.
  14. Sorry I should have explained that I just use NaviBridge to set destinations and schedule them to be sent to the car next time the phone and car are connected. I don't use the Lexus Link app or the Lexus website at all for this.
  15. I use the NaviBridge app to send destinations to the car which is a 2023 model with the larger touch screen interface.
  16. I got a Stoplock Pro Elite steering wheel lock after seeing this video showing a CANBUS theft of a Lexus done in under three minutes: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lexus/comments/yz0380/can_someone_tell_me_what_these_culprits_did_under/ The alternatives include plates fitted under the wheel arches and hidden ignition kill switches. But plates wouldn't prevent keyless relay attacks (although I disable my key fob to stop this) and kill switches wouldn't prevent the damage caused by a failed CANBUS attack. The visibility of the steering wheel is a useful deterrent and, other than the inconvenience, the only downside I can imagine is that it's presence could cause a thief to think there was something valuable inside the car. The Stoplock steering wheel lock is substantial but somewhat cumbersome. A less substantial alternative might be all that's necessary to encourage thieves to leave your car alone and move on to the next car. NB some steering wheel locks may not fit over the central hump of the UX steering wheel.
  17. Thanks Ed for sharing your experience and for the reassurance.
  18. Hi all, I just wanted to check whether it's OK to use Bilt Hamber Auto Foam or Bilt Hamber Touch-Less on the Lexus Sonic Platinum paint which I understand has a soft self-healing surface? Many thanks Roger
  19. Interestingly the system can be a little schizophrenic with the head up display showing one speed limit and the nav screen showing another. I assume the head up display is the limit which the cameras have seen whilst the nail screen is getting it's information from the map. Neither is as accurate as the system in my previous car which wasn't 100% accurate either.
  20. Have discovered that destinations and route plan can be created on phone using the free NaviBridge app and sent to the car via bluetooth. Works well and the app integrates well with Google maps on the phone.
  21. The determined professional thief will be able to steal any car no matter what security devices are used. However, with any model of car that's sold in volume if you make it somewhat more difficult to steal than another down the road, 99% of the time your's will be safe. For this reason I think visible deterrents are more worthwhile than hidden deterrents like OBD locks. I've invested in a Stoplock Pro Elite which is certainly visible and substantial enough to delay the theft of my car. The main downside is that it's more cumbersome to fit than I'd expected because I'd not seen one before ordering it online.
  22. This could be a clue to the cause being brake disc pads rubbing on the discs. Cornering causes the disc calipers and pads to move a little and come into closer contact with the disc. This causes a rhythmic rubbing sound especially if the discs have worn or there's a rusty ridge around the outer circumferential edge or the car has been standing for a few days and a light coat of rust has formed on the surface of the discs. If you take the wheels off you can easily check the discs. If there's a ridge around their edge it can often be scrapped or filed off or if it's surface rust on the disc (check both inside and outside surfaces of the disc) some high speed heavy braking will usually restore the finish. But if the working surface of the disc is pitted, braking efficiency may be reduced and new discs maybe required. Now that asbestos can't be used in disc pads, discs tend to wear more. Also wheel the car is jacked up try rocking the wheel holding the top and bottom to see if there's any noticeable play in the wheel bearings as worn wheel bearings will cause the wheel to lean while cornering but worn wheel bearings usually exhibit a very noticeable low pitch groaning noise.
  23. Hi @MrB Does the "Registering a Driver" section, page 42, of the UX Multimedia manual help? This is one of the two manuals available for download using the Lexus Link app or owners section of the Lexus Website. The printed manual supplied with the car is only a short summary of the information contained in the 900+ pages of these two manuals!
  24. I'm going to get a Stoplock Pro Elite now that I've seen this video showing a CANBUS theft on a Lexus done in under 3 minutes. The alternatives include plates under the wheel arches (anyone here had these fitted by Lexus?) and hidden ignition kill switches. But plates under the wheel arches don't prevent keyless relay attacks (although I usually disable my key fob to stop this) and hidden kill switches wouldn't prevent the damage caused by a failed CANBUS attack. The visibility of the Stoplock would surely be a useful deterrent. Other than the inconvenience, the only downside I can imagine is that it's presence could cause a thief to think there was something valuable inside the car. But no anti-theft device will do much more than encourage a determined thief to move on to another easier target.
