  1. Please don't buy those non-branded super-duper head units off eBay. They're very widely reported to be awful, do a search and you'll find loads of people who have installed them and instantly regretted it. Sounds quality is appalling.
  2. Looks awesome, especially with the new wheels ! :D
  3. It's not the Royal Mint that's offering £50, it's the "London Mint", a commercial company that's nothing to do with the Royal Mint. If a company is offering to buy them for £50 each you know they must be worth a *lot* more !
  4. You can buy them new from Lexus/Toyota (though they come unpainted).
  5. Maybe there's more of an issue with LHD cars and where the battery is located re the charger ?
  6. Don't think it's the total boost as such that the IS200 can or cannot handle, more the overall bhp. Although that's an area that still doesn't seem to be understood, i.e. exactly what the limiting factors are. People seem to have been able to run up to 250bhp on standard internals, so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to put slightly more boost through it and still be ok (though Rob's point is a valid one of course and I'm not talking about limits on the charger/pulley/etc).
  7. When you unclip them and then pull out the washer hose, make sure you keep hold of it ! It's easy to let it go and see it disappear back inside the (double-skinned !) bonnet !
  8. I don't have any experience of trying dash LEDs and I don't know which ones hawk77 was specifically referring to. But SMD is just a type of technology, they're those small flat LEDs rather than bulb-shaped one. So they can be mounted on a circuit board in any configuration, e.g. tower-like as in the eBay link, but also totally flat too (e.g. the ones typically used for dome light/map light etc).
  9. I found the old postings. If you check the VIN plate, where it says "axle" there are 4 digits, A02A or A02B. If it says "A" it's open and "B" it's LSD.
  10. The pink wire with black stripe is common to both the up-down and side-to-side movement motors, so if that is broken then you wouldn't be able to make the mirror move. So that makes sense, because if it was just one wire out of the other two pink wires that had broken, that would only prevent movement one way and it should still work the other way.
  11. According to the diagram here, at the front of the bonnet there's "soft-chip primer". So maybe the outer paint is no stronger but the primer is supposed to be better at resisting chips and hence not exposing the metal ? Just guessing.
  12. ok, sorry, I can see how that must be very frustrating. I think that the fact the IS200 Sport doesn't have a specific "Sport" badge on the rear, but then other non-Sport models can say "Sport" (e.g. on Sport grille) must mean it's confusing for breakers who aren't too familiar with the IS200. But of course they should know what they're selling.
  13. Sorry to question you Talisker, but though I've heard this story about some Sports not having an LSD, I've never been totally convinced its true (e.g. not seen anyone say they've got a Sport without an LSD). As Yeldarb said, you can tell by the plate on the engine bulkhead. Are you sure your test about rotating the wheels is an accurate indicator of an LSD ? And how did you tell from looking inside the LSD itself ? Again, sorry because you may well know more about diffs than I do, just that I'm suprised you'd have had the same problem twice. My IS200 is a 1999 Sport and according to the engine bay plate I do have an LSD.
  14. Not saying that you're incorrect, but where does your information come from ? In the online workshop manual here, it says that the LSD in the IS200 is a Torsen diff.
  15. Do the motors in the mirror work itself then ? e.g. if you connect them up to 12V does the mirror move in the relevant direction ?
  16. Sounds like a sticky caliper. It's quite a common problem, and swapping the discs/pads wouldn't fix it.
  17. Don't thank me, it was Parthiban who first mentioned the batteries ! :winky:
  18. Japanese cars usually have pretty soft paint in general. German cars normally have pretty hard paint.
  19. Big thanks to Nick and his Dad for organising this, it was fun. I don't think I've ever seen such a well-organised BBQ, they even had a bucket of soapy water to wash the BBQ utensils after using them to handle raw chicken ! Davros and I made it along with Nick, and we managed to have an equal number of Lexus there compared to Mercs (3 each), though other people came too with some different marques. Nick, your car looked great and I hope you can get it sold soon for a decent price (folks - he's got an armrest !)
  20. I agree with some of what you're saying Paradroid. But what happens if you crash your car which you've fitted the TTE bumper too, Lexus have a look at it and notice the bumper, then do a little search and manage to find a pic on the Internet of your car without a TTE bumper on, then refuse to pay out ? It might sound a bit far-fetched, but I'd rather be on the safe side. Especially since mod-friendly insurers probably won't be bothered or increase your premiums for that. As you say, performance-related parts are going to be of more interest to the insurers, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't declare the other bits.
  21. Yes :winky: They might not be bothered but if you haven't told them and they find out after an accident you could be in trouble.
  22. Yes, the door card should be a simple swap, it's just a cosmetic thing.
