  1. Doesn't help as much as an autobox though. :P Yeah but that's an expensive swap :P
  2. The machine wouldn't check the operation of the compressor, belts etc, but a normal service should cover those sort of things. I can't imagine they're going to check anything more than the basics there, something that you could probably check yourself in 5 minutes. Similarly with the internal flaps etc, you can easily check that yourself. But as for the other stuff then yes, it looked to me like Kwik-Fit's machine (at least at the branch where I went) did all the other stuff.
  3. How much have you lowered your GS ? Surely there's a happy medium between leaving your car as-is, and lowering it so much you have a problem with speed bumps ? I know it's not the same car, but my IS is lowered and I have not had any speed bump issues so far.
  4. Aftermarket lightweight flywheel is a lot less than the OEM dual-mass flywheel though. Prolex are advertising them for £450 delivered, poss get them for a bit less if you shop around. Mine does it when warm as well as cold. It's just if the revs aren't matched right - either too much or too little can do it.
  5. I'd be suprised if Toyota etc don't use a similar machine to Kwik-Fit. As I said, the Kwik-Fit machine does it all automatically, the operator doesn't really do anything other than connect up the hoses and start it up. Certainly the Kwik-Fit machine used on my car did pretty much the same list of things that Ormi has mentioned.
  6. ok, yes, if you don't want to unstick the ballast for now (which I can perfectly understand, I'd be reluctant to pull mine up too !), then putting a regular halogen back in sounds like the next best thing. As you say, if that works fine then you know it's to do with the HIDs, if it fails in the same way you know it's not the HIDs.
  7. I would tend to suspect the ballast too. You could always try swapping the ballasts over (if they're not stuck down too securely !) and see if the problem moves with the ballast or not.
  8. Happy Birthday, have a good one ! :D
  9. I'm planning to replace my OEM flywheel with an aftermarket lightweight one - not because of the lightweight factor, just because it's a solid flywheel and replace the clutch at the same time, and hopefully banish the annoying juddering for good !
  10. Find a space that works for you. There's usually space underneath the seat heater/TRC switches if you haven't got something there already.
  11. That's horrible, what a bunch of :tsktsk: Even though your no-claims is protected, the trouble is the insurance company might decide to put up your premium anyway, because they think the fact you made a claim means you're in a higher-risk area.
  12. Those don't seem to be iridium-tipped plugs, so I wouldn't use them. I would stick with the Denos or NGK alternatives (personally I used Denso IK20).
  13. I think it's an auto-only thing.
  14. I presume that your screen tilts out. You'd almost certainly have to cut down the piece that you're missing, at the bottom, to let the screen tilt still. ok, I see what you're after now.
  15. Nick what time is this going on, when are most people getting there from the MB Club ?
  16. Loads on eBay, search for "IS200 fascia" :winky: The same kit makes single-DIN or double-DIN.
  17. There's an IS200-specific procedure that you can use to check the aircon condition, using the sight glasses, here. I think that it's generally recommended you get it checked out every couple of years. Over time the refrigerant will probably leak out. If you haven't had it checked for some time then it's almost certain to benefit from a re-gas.
  18. As the guys above said. Please don't drive this until you can get it checked out. Hopefully it's just a problem with the oil pressure sensor, but it could be the early signs of something much worse, and if you catch it now you can easily sort it.
  19. Got mine done at Kwik-Fit last week for £45 inclusive. They've got a machine which they just plug in and it automatically does the whole thing, sucks the old refrigerant out, does a pressure test, refills it, etc. So they don't really need any great expertise. Trouble was, the BMW being done before me had an a/c problem and it broke their machine. So they had to put me off and I got it done for half price for my trouble (and they were quite apologetic and good about it).
  20. There are anti-squeal shims in with the pads on the IS200 and sometimes the garage throws them away with the old pads, not realising they're important.
  21. Argh, the topic should of course be "New Wheel Nuts"
