  1. forgot to mention - i got it from ipodcarkitdirect they were also very helpful
  2. i have an 04 430 too, and i have a dension gateway 100 in mine, the sound quality is excellent - far better than the fm radio. the unit also works with the sat nav display so you can see tracks/ artists / playlists etc although it is a bit "clunky" to use - ie its not too clear how to move from one playlist to another, or from artist to albums etc. i did lose the cd player but most of my cds are on the ipod anyway ( i did buy the adaptor to allow the cd to continue to work, but the adaptor never worked so that got sent back - my unit is a few years old now so they may have sorted this out by now ) in summary the kit cost about £100, does what i want and sounds excellent. it takes about an hour to fit and is a simple matter of unplugging the existing radio plugs and plugging in the new ones. its very easy to do
  3. i believe that from late 2003 onwards, all the specs you have listed were standard
  4. hi mike got my replacement ac filter from lt motors in stockton - about a tenner, easy enough to change in glove box, then press and hold the "off" button for about 4 seconds, it should bleep and reset the display. ( or you can just tap it out/hoover/blow with comp air then reset)
  5. i had a problem with my a/c and took it lexus teesside, who smiling and grinning asked me if i wanted the £1300 repair carried out while i waited, as soon as i enquired if it could be carried out under warranty, i was told that it couldnt as the lexus full warranty only applied to vehicles up to 5 years old!! i asked if they would mind ringing the warranty company while i was there, to check if that was the case and surprise, surprise i was fully covered. however now that it was being done under warranty it had to booked in on a different day and ian the manager was no longer smiling and grinning! long story short, it took a further 5 visits to sort out, as each time it went in, a different part had to be ordered. moral - dont accept the first answer you're given, do some homework
  6. ive had a mk1 and mk2 ls430 and neither had this feature, they just have the lock all doors button on the drivers door near the window switches. my other half has an audi a3 and this feature is turned on or off at the dealers, so maybe this is also possible with the lexus
  7. yes songs / artists / and playlists all visible on screen
  8. \ i have an ls430 and have installed a gateway 100 from dension, which works well and was easy to install, about £100. only prob is that it takes the place of the in car cd player, but if your using the ipod it gives more choice anyway. dont know if it fits ls460 but worth a look
  9. i used to work for a building company and we used to have 3 year leases on the vans, so every august the 1st the old ones would be returned, and new ones supplied. so one august 1st, we had a phone call from one of the lads who was returning his van, saying he had been in an accident and written the van off ( probably his own fault as he hit an oncoming car as he was overtaking ). so we had to make a call to the lease company and explain the situation ( always embarassing when its someone elses vehicle youve just killed!), not a big problem they say and agree to send the new van to the scene of the accident, so that tools etc can be transferred. half an hour later, we get a phone call from the same lad saying that the van has been written off! we assume he must have slight concussion/ memory loss, until he explains that this time a tractor pulled out from a side road immediately in front of him! Cue another embarassing call to the lease company! so probably not a record for the least miles before a smash, but maybe a record for 2 write offs within about an hour!
  10. i got one of the cd's for about £2 on fleabay and it covers most things but is just a bit "clunky" to use - hard to find exactly what you want - defo worth £2 tho
  11. i bought a new 2002 is200 se had it 3 years and loved it, then part exed it for a new honda type r ( must have been mental ! ) hated everything about it and the only toys it had were air con and electric windows!, so decided that next car would have as many toys on it as i could find - hello 2002 ls430. its completely different to the IS though, the IS was good around the twisty bits and more of a drivers car, although it could have done with a bit more poke. the LS is the other way round, its like poo off a shiny shovel in a straight line, but youve got to get it slowed right down for the twistys, as 2 tons doesnt like to change direction quickly. The LS needs to be driven differently, but you will find that as soon as you start driving it, you will want to drive it differently. its a much more chilled out car to drive, and if you thought your IS had plenty of gadgets as standard, its got nothing in comparison. i would suggest a test drive to see if you like how it feels to drive, if you like it then i guarantee you will be pleased with the car, if you dont like how it drives then get something else hope this helps andy PS im now on my 2nd LS, a MK2 this time, and i wouldnt have any other car at the moment
  12. have you looked at the dension ice range, i have the gateway 100 in my 2004 ls and it works the iphone through the stereo screen and stereo buttons aswell as charging it. fitting is easy, just unplug din plugs on back of stereo, plug in new leads and then plug stereo leads into new leads. you do lose the 6 cd changer thats built in, but the gain is 1000s of ipod tracks
  13. just a quick one for you i had a 2002 mk1 ls which when you held the lock button on the key fob for about 3 seconds would close the windows and "moon" roof, or if you did the same with the unlock button would open them all. i now have a 2004 mk2 ls and it doesnt have this feature. is this a dealer only reset, or is this feature not on mk2s at all, or is it one of those times when i have to put ignition switch to acc, open the door 3 times, shut the bonnet, press ac twice, and rub my stomach and pat my head at the same time? thanks for your help, i know someone will have the answer andy
  14. i have had a 2002 ls and now have a 2004 model, i would say if you can find a later model then do, there are loads of little improvements that all add up to make it a lot better. the things i have noticed are the 6 speed box makes it about 10% more economical ( in my experience anyway ), voice recognition for sat nav and heater controls etc, the sat nav dvd system has post code recognition, turning headlights, vanity mirrors in rear headlining, reverse camera and park assist. all pretty minor things but if you were to cost them and add them to the price of a mk1, then a mk2 would make more sense, i suppose it depends how many toys you want/need?
  15. thats quite good on the insurance as a lot of policys have gone up by about 15% this year without any excuses to raise them. on a completely unrelated note, will be up your way over the weekend at a farm shop and was wondering what the castle eden inn is like for a bit of lunch? and if so what would you recommend? thanks andy
  16. ferry it is then! just been down to lexus, had work inspected, all as it should be except headlight alignment about as far out as its possible to be ( so much for the monkey at uk assistance assuring me they had been aligned exactly to manufacturers spec!) also they didnt even charge me!, and got a free cuppa not bad lads really
  17. didnt get a list of parts etc mike, i just asked roughly what rhe cost was, out of curiosity. but when i started the car up after it had been hit it was making some strange motor or pump noise from near the headlight area, so maybe some air con damage aswell ( not too sure whats in that area without having a look ), i also had a full bonnet spray aswell, cos there was one small dent on it ( filler and touch up would have done it) might see if i can get a list of work done , as it is all part of history of the car taking it in to lexus tomorrow, cos the lights still arent properly aligned, and im not too sure if they have the right bulbs in, cos the when aimed at a wall, the spread of light from the left bulb is wide and from the right one is like a spotlight? so while its in, im going to get the whole repair area checked over to make sure its all as it should be will keep you posted ps did you get a sat nav disc?
  18. mine was done by uk assistance in stockton, but they got all the parts from rmb cos when i tried to locate a wing myself, rmb told me they had already delivered it to uk assistance
  19. arent insurance companies brilliant, not robbing dishonest thieves at all! i think the swivel headlights were only fitted on the "mk2" version, ie the 6 speed one, which i think came out late 2003. cost of repair 1 wing, 1 headlight, 1 bumper + spraying + labour £3800. someone somewhere is making a mint out of the ice on the roads! which, i might point out, wouldnt be there if the council wasnt too tight to grit the road - im not bitter! does anyone have any stats for £ of car insurance claims + hospital costs/claims for all the people who slipped and broke bones compared to how much in £ the councils have saved by not gritting? i think i might be a bit bitter after all!
  20. finally got the old girl back, paint etc looks good and can now see when the lights are turning going round corners, so can only assume that they werent working before and i had never noticed...bonus! however have already taken it back once cos both headlights on main beam were pointed at the floor. having fixed that ive now noticed that one of the high beam lights is aimed about 6ft in front of the car! cant be bothered to take it back again, so have had a quick look and can see a "dial" / wheel on the back of the high beam unit, near the top of the assembly. does anyone know if this just adjusts the vertical alignment _ which is what i want or is there another way of doing it? also whereabouts should it be aimed, im guessing slightly higher than main beam assuming i park about 4ft from a wall on level ground. the more ive written here, the more i think i should just take it back again!
  21. thanks for pinching the last wing in the country mike! mine arrived yesterday, has been sprayed today and i should get the old girl back tomorrow. will let you know what the final bill is. am also not too sure what to tell insurance next time, as i am claiming but the other party has admitted full liability and i dont even have to pay the excess. when i asked the insurance company what to do, they say i have to put it down as an accident with no blame and no claim, but in twenty odd years of insuring cars, ive never seen that option! they did assure me my premium wont alter, but i get the feeling that may be different when the time comes! anyhow will be glad to see the back of the vauxhall vectra courtesy car and get back to a bit of comfort
  22. do you mean keyless entry? the button for this is located on the panel below the steering wheel, it is almost impossible to find by touch alone, i can only ever find mine by pushing the drivers seat as far back as it will go and then lying upside down in the footwell! it is sometimes switched off to save the car battery if the car is going to be left for a while, as the car is constantly scanning to see if you are approaching once the doors are locked. if that wasnt what you meant then please ignore all of the above
  23. thanks for the help needs to be a new one as other parties insurance is paying will have a look on fleabay, in case they have any - bit of a longshot but anythings worth a try at the moment mike - was it the drivers side wing - if it was im not happy! , mine also needed a bonnet, bumper, headlight and something behind the bumper was making a funny electrical noise too - so whatever that was needs replacing too. was a young lad who skidded into the car while it was parked up, he wanted to settle without involving the insurance, until i rang rmb for some prices, he nearly fell over when i gave him the headlight price and soon changed his mind cant wait to see the final bill - if i ever get one. nice to see someone (lexus and uk assistance )benefitting from the snow and ice
  24. my 2004 ls430 was hit over the xmas holidays, it has been in for repair since then as they are waiting for a new wing, apparently none in the country and unable to get a date when they will be any one got any ideas or know how long things normally take when lexus dont have them in? have had problems with other cars before and generally parts can be sourced within about 24/48 hrs, why cant lexus - with their excellent customer service - do the same? they could at least say, sorry mate it will be 4 weeks, at least i would know! as it is im just hanging around waiting indefinitely
