  1. Hello Guys, thanks for your input so far. I am a little confused as to what the part is called where the bush I need to replace is. I have had a look on the LexLs website and thought I had found the bush that I need but after having another look under the car I am not so sure. I have taken a picture that shows what I am looking for. I need to replace the bush that is on the left hand side of the picture near the wheel rim, not the one towards the bottom of the picture. I think the bush towards the bottom of the picture is the one shown on the LexLs website. I hope this helps. Many thanks. Steve.
  2. Hello guys. My trusty LS passed it's MOT yesterday but there was a bit of play in the bush where the rear drag link is attached to the hub. I was wondering if anyone had an exploded view of this area of the car so when I order the new bush I am confidant I am getting the right part. Thanks in advance. Steve.
  3. Hello guys. I sat myself down in front of YouTube to have a listen at your suggestions and I was impressed by your tastes. Some of the tracks you listed I already listen to and own but most I had never heard of. Normski - I really enjoyed Real Real Gone and Too Rolling Stoned from your first post and Running Down A Dream and Guitar Man from your second post. Nice laid back music, ideal to listen to when you want to unwind. RayKahn - I have been looking for the title of Chi Mai for ages, I have always loved that music but never been able to find it without knowing the title...many thanks to you for posting that one. I have been listening to Freebird and Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd for as long as I can remember. The-Acre - I like quite a lot of the Jimi Hendrix stuff, I think my favourites are Red House, Hey Joe and Killing Floor. I have never been that keen on Pink Floyd but I did give it a listen and followed a few of the links on YouTube and came across The Dogs Of War which I really like so thanks for steering me in that direction. Janet - I don't have an I Pad or Touch but I have no doubt that I will find a way to hook up some digital radio to listen to on the move in the future. Thanks for the suggestion. PetayV8 - I liked all your tunes, they all made me smile. I am partial to a bit of C+W. The C+W artists seem to have never ending lists of songs, they must spend every waking moment writing and recording them. Matt-c - Dead Sara reminded me a bit of Evanescence, I will definately be keeping an eye out for them in future. There is something I like about a heavy rock band with a female vocalist, not something you see every day. A good find, thanks. ChrisIS200SportTTE - Layla...classic...nuff said. The Foo Fighters are a great band to listen to in the car, you just have to keep strict control of that right foot! Once again, thanks for all the suggestions, feel free to post any other stuff you can think of. I have been listening to Imelda May today, if you like Rockabilly and Blues give her a listen, you won't be dissapointed. Steve.
  4. Thanks for your ideas guys. When I finally get a day off work I am going to perch myself in front of the PC and spend some time on YouTube listening to your suggestions. Keep em coming. Steve.
  5. Hello guys. I left my job as van driver a couple of years ago and I now work in a factory. While I was driving I used to listen to the radio all day and get to hear all sorts of new music. We are not allowed a radio in the factory and so as a consequence I don't get to hear any new tunes. What I am asking of you chaps is to post your favourite 3 songs to give me some inspiration. They don't have to be new songs and I really don't mind what genre they are, I have a wide taste in music. I will start the ball rolling with my favourite 3. Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay - Otis Reading Nothing Else Matters - Metallica Take What You Take - Lily Allen I look forward to hearing your choices and widening my musical library. Steve
  6. I used to get terrible tramlining problems with the Pireilli P Zeros but since I have started using Falkens the problem has disappeared. I am now on my 3rd set of Falkens. Steve.
  7. Do you have kids? Maybe someone is just playing a practical joke on you, I used to do that kind of stuff to my Dad all the time. Steve
  8. It's a sore point with me too. Yesterday we had two letters delivered from the DVLA. I thought it was a bit strange as no VED is due from me at the moment. Upon opening the letters I was shocked to find that I now owe the DVLA £40 for them to send me two new licences for me and my wife. Gutted! Steve.
  9. Hello guys. Speaking of strange things to have as Advisory Information, my LS passed it's last MOT but came back with an Advisory of "This vehicle has Type Approved seat belt installations" I had another car MOT tested after the LS and no such Advisory was issued for that one about seat belts. Steve.
  10. Hello Rick, I used a company called Longlife (they have depots nationwide) for my cat-back system on my LS. I tried getting in touch with a couple of the companies on Ebay but they didn't bother to reply. I paid £650 for a custom made stainless twin crossflow exhaust. It took 3 days for them to build and install the exhaust, the first day was taken up by trying to undo the manifold bolts! The two big silencers in the picture have now been removed to give a real growl to the exhaust. It is probably louder than you are looking for so I would advise you have them in place. Hope this helps. Steve.
  11. Don't forget to update your profile from Still Looking to Proud Owner :D
  12. Congratulations on your new car, I am sure you will be happy with it, you will be discovering new things that you like for the next few weeks. One word of warning though, you mention buying a new set of brake discs because the ones on the car are warped. Don't bother unless the discs are badly scored or have worn thin. The chances are they are not warped but you are suffering a very common "fault" on MK IV Ls400s. The discs get a build up of brake pad residue stuck on them which creates "sticky" patches on the disc causing the braking to feel slightly juddery when you brake lightly. If you brake a bit harder the juddering lessens but if you brake quite hard from high speed it can be a bit un-nerving. If you change the discs the problem will go away...for a few weeks and then you will be back to square one only this time you will be £200 out of pocket. By all means get the discs checked by a professional but it is unlikely they will be warped. I hope this hasn't put you off your pride and joy, you will just learn to live with it. Steve.
  13. Hello Guys. My insurance was due for renewal this month and as I have been with Adrian Flux for a few years I wanted to stay with them. The cost of renewal with them went up from £450 last year to £600 this year which I consider to be unacceptable. I had a quick look on the comparison websites and found Swinton was the cheapest at £300 with a £600 excess so I rang A. Flux to have a chat, they reduced their price from £600 to £350 with a £100 excess. I am still with A. Flux, I thought that an extra £50 which might save me £500 and the fact it is so much hassle changing company and chasing the proof of NCB was a small price to pay. I think this year is the first time in 26 years of continuous insurance that my premium has gone down. Steve
  14. Hello Pete, have you tried to lock and unlock the rear door from the central locking switch on the drivers door? If you can operate the lock from here it will discount the sticky solenoid theory. If you still don't have any luck with this method maybe you could try disconnecting the battery for a while to reset the system. Good luck. Steve.
  15. Hello Guys. I have a straight through system on my LS. It is a crossflow pipe with just two small straight through silencers. At 50 MPH on cruise control you can hardly hear the exhaust, but at 60 MPH it is a bit intrusive. Once you get up to about 2200 RPM it gets quieter again and sounds really sweet. In the picture the pipe has two large silencers at the end of the pipes, these are now gone and it just the small silencers. It might be queiter in the car if these were moved right to the end of the pipes, but at the moment they sit under the back seat. You can check out what it sounds like here "http://www.youtube.c...mVvuCryLI?rel=0"
  16. Yes, I was using a bit of throttle. Normally, when the car is warmed up, it is a much more subtle sound. The fact it is a crossflow pipe gives it the uneven burble at about 1200 RPM. It can be quite funny watching people do a doubletake when the car goes past them, you can see them thinking that the car doesn't match the noise. The added benefit is that, because the pipes are much less restrictive, the performance of the car is improved. I also get about 3MPG more now than I did before. Steve.
  17. No problem Pete. This video was taken with the engine stone cold so not a true representation of the sound but you will get the idea. It is a bit louder than I would have liked but, having said that, at 50MPH on cruise control you can barely hear the exhaust inside the car. It only really barks when you use some hoof. Steve "http://www.youtube.c...mVvuCryLI?rel=0"
  18. Hi Guys, I know this is slightly off topic but I thought I would let you know my experience regarding the £500 Ebay exhaust. My exhaust was blowing at both flanges where the Cats meet the main part of the exhaust. I have always wanted the car to have a bit more of a growl so I thought I would see how much a new exhaust would be. I contacted 3 sellers on Ebay, 2 of them never bothered to reply and the other quoted me £750. I did a bit more research and found a company called Longlife Exhausts that offer a lifetime warranty and they have a branch quite close to where I live. I gave them a call and arranged to take the car in for them to have a look. After discussing what kind of exhaust I wanted (straightforward replacement or custom) we agreed on a price of £650 for a complete system from the Cats to the back of the car. I decided on a custom cross flow pipe. It took the guys at Longlife almost 3 days to get the old pipes off and the new ones built and installed, most of the problems they had were with the manifold studs snapping off. I am really happy with the work they did, it is top quality and they were really nice guys. In the end I paid them £700 because they had such trouble getting the old pipes off and what should have been a single day's work turned into almost 3. I don't know if they would be able to get round the rusting flange problem, but I would be surprised if they couldn't, they really seemed to know their stuff. Steve
  19. Thanks for all the advice Guys. When I got round to stripping the Throttle Body Sensor off the car the next day and cutting slots into the heads of the screws I was well pleased with my efforts. I put it all back together again and got ready to make the adjustment, I had loosened the screws so I could twist the TPS to slow down the tickover. When I had got it running nicely I tightened the screws, which just pulled the TPS back to where it was before I started and the engine revs shot up again! I must have tried this about 20 times and was getting very frustrated as my wife and I had to go out in the car later that day. Anyway, time marched on and I couldn't get it to tick over at the right speed before we needed to go out so I just tightened up the TPS screws and left it. However, just as you said, after driving the car for a while and leaving it in Park at traffic lights and such the revs sorted themselves out and it now ticks over quite happily at about 700 RPM. I love cars that fix themselves, I just wish I had known it was going to fix itself before I spent hours working on it. Steve.
  20. Hi BHT, I can't help you on your query about whether the parts are the same but I can tell you that when I was after the very same parts for my MK IV I found Andrew Page to be very expensive. I got mine from Parkinsons( http://www.parkinsons.co.uk/), they have branches throughout the East Midlands and East Anglia. I don't know if that is close to where you live but they might do mail order. Good luck with your hunt. Steve.
  21. I was followed along the A17 between Sutton Bridge and King's Lynn today by a silver LS400 MK IV. I was in a green LS, just wondering if ti belongs to anyone on here. Steve.
  22. I hear ya! My LS had the Pirellis on when I bought it. The grip was good but I found when they got down to the last 5000 miles of their life the car was squirming about all over the road, I don't get this problem on the Falkens. I can respect people that want to stick to the Pirellis though, the car did ride nicely on them when they had plenty of tread left. Steve.
  23. Hi Pete, my speedo is also now a little bit off as the circumferance of a 235/50 tyre is a little bit smaller than that of the original 245/50 tyre. The reason I didn't go for the 235/55 tyre is that on full lock they were just rubbing the inner wheelarches due to the fact the front springs are a bit long in the tooth and have lost a bit of their height. My speedo reads 74 MPH when my Sat Nav reads 70 MPH. I got about 15000 miles out of my first set of Falkens, I am quite steady round corners and don't really rag my car about too much. Steve.
