  1. Hello Lads, Here is a technical question for you: I want to change the cloth seats in my 1999 GS300 for a set of leather ones. Both are fully electric but the leather ones have a memory function on the door card (which I'm not changing). Are the connector plugs that connect the car to the seat the same? Any help would be appreciated as I don't want to buy a set of seats and then be unable to use them. Many thanks in advance.
  2. I had this problem with my 1996 GS300. Problem was traced to front lower suspension ball joints. Cured problem 100%.
  3. I assume by "disengage" you mean the engine revs drop off back to around 600ish then theres a pause before it starts pick up to the revs for when the air con cuts in. There is a sensor actually on the aircon compressor but it would be a bit of a trial and error swap to find the fault as i don't know the aircon circuit. If you look here theres a few diagrams may give you some clues http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_1995_LEXU...QFW_8719.2.html Thanks for the reply, I will try and analyse with help of a friend with a brain. Regards. Sounds like you got yourself a leak somewhere, the low pressure switch is cutting the power to the compressor clutch to protect it, after a while once the high and low side pressure equalises the switch comes back in and allows operation of the compressor albeit temporarily, NO a/c systems require recharging as a service the refrigerant Never wears out just escapes! Air in the system??? theyre full of sh*t air in any a/c system is certain death! your system needs pressure testing and a leak test carried out , once you have located the leak and sorted it then you can vac it out and recharge to the correct amount. Hope this helps, good luck! Many thanks for your advice, I will proceed along the lines you suggest, regards and will report findings soon.

  5. My series 1 GS300 has a problem with it's AC. It switches on fine but then only runs for 10 seconds before disengaging the compressor. It then stays off for 30-40 seconds and then starts again, but only for the same 10 seconds. It keeps on doing this in the same cycling pattern. Lexus looked at it today and re-gassed it as they said there was some air in the system but drove 30 miles after and problem remains. I don't think they have the ability to diagnose. Before I took it to Lexus I got Kwik-Fit to re-gas the system so I am confident that gas is not the problem. As the compressor engages and does it's job i.e. it cools the air very well, my guess is that it may be a faulty sensor telling the compressor to switch off prematurely. This only a guess as I don't pretend to know about this aspect of cars, although I am somewhat interested in mechanicals in general. Hate cars with sensors all over the place. They can ruin a good car. Am at a bit of a loss. If Lexus can't help, where else do I go? Changed the AC relay just to eliminate it and it is not faulty. If anybody can shed some light I would be most grateful. Regards to all.
  6. My Gs300 was doing similar things. After much investigation, found corroded siren was to blame. Lexus removed siren for £50+vat and now have my sanity back. If your lights flash as well (mine didn't) you may need to disable the whole system. Hope this helps.
  7. My final post about this topic. My Gs300 mk1 was sounding it's alarm for no reason at random intervals. Cause was corroded siren. Lexus dealer removed siren for £50+vat and I hope that is the end of it. Independent alarm dealers were unwilling to touch it and seemed best for Lexus themselves to deal with it. Immobiliser is in the key so no worries about theft. Enjoy the silence.
  8. Hi Guys, After a lot of trouble I hope I have found the final solution for all owners with this problem. My alarm was going off for no reason and NOT flashing it's lights whilst doing so. There was speculation that this happens only when you use the valet key for extended periods. This is not the case. The problem seems linked to a corroded siren. Just booked my car in with Lexus and they say they will simply remove the siren and charge £49.50+VAT, that's 30 mins labour. This seems to be the best option as alarm dealers are unsure about touching a Lexus as they are known to be difficult. The immobiliser is unaffected by this operation as it is linked only via the key, so theft is unlikely, and besides, the thief would have to fill it with petrol! Not a cheap experience. Please spread this info about in your own posts as there are lots of members scratching their heads over this problem. Here's hoping for a quiet life..............
  9. Hello folks, I have a GS300 MK1 and have similar problems. I have 2 keys, one black and the other grey. I have been told by the RAC guy who came out to see me today that if you use they grey valet key for longer than the system is happy with, it sounds the alarm but no flashing of lights. I was using the valet key as I wanted to keep the black master key safe at home. I will now use the black key only and see what happens. It might be a corroded siren as pointed out by some other members but let's wait and see befroe ripping bits out. Anyone interested in my findings should contact me through the LOC after a few days. Today is 24-9-08. Hope this was of use to someone. Regards.

  11. Hi there, Just bought my first GS300 MK1 and it does not come with buttons on the key. It has a separate fob with 2 buttons on it and it costs quite a bit. I have one fob but use the key instead as if I use fob to lock it and it fails when I try and unlock it, the car may be locked for good! Hope it helps.
  12. Welcome to LOC, I hope you enjoy the car. Once discs become warped, they can be re skimmed to bring them back into line. Nothing can be done to the discs via the wheel nuts as these used to mount the alloys to the hub only. (Make sure you torque the nuts up accordingly). Hi Purvesh, Thanks for the welcome, and I am enjoying the car more than I thought I would. Any idea where I could get the discs skimmed and what it will cost? If I don't get them fixed, would other problems follow? Kind regards, RG I've only had mine done under warranty, so I'm afraid I wouldn't know. It does take around an hour though, probably best to get a quote. Also ring around a few garages around your area to see if they offer this service. I must add though, on the Lexus the problem returned and eventually they just replaced the discs and pads anyway. Over time the juddering may become worse and you'll find it difficult to control the steering under moderate to hard braking. So my advice would be don't skimp on a crucial part like this, I'd suggest purchasing a new set, that way you know your safe. Thanks for the info Purvesh. If I feel the problem again, will probably get some new discs, but if the problem comes back again will be a real problem. I wonder if there is a long term cure?

  14. Lexus dealer was not sure about master key. Since I have a grey key as well, I use that and keep the master key safe at home. It won't open the boot but there is an internal switch for that. Dealer was also vague about fob. Bad show Lexus dealers.
