  1. Update.

I had the chance of matching up my IS with and RS and found

    1. The TTE IS200 auto's acceleration can match the RS200 auto

    2. If the IS isn't in the 4000+ rpm sweet spot range, the RS will have an advantage while accelerating but not much

    3. The TTE 3rd gear which takes you from 110km-170km (i think)really shines. You can close the gap quickly on the RS if it is already ahead

Unfortunately this was only done from a rolling start/touge type race we didn't have the space to do a head to head. The results are not conclusive. We forgot about the Altezza's speed limiter so it had no chance of besting the IS200 top speed. the IS sailed past the RS with ease as the 4th gear kick in. We will try again when the altezza's speed limiter has been removed

And if you were wondering, this was done on a closed road. safety first.

So far it does seem like the TTE IS200 can give the best of both worlds, the Lexus luxury and the Altezza's performance.

one thing to note is both cars had coilovers, the IS200 had TRDs and Apexi on the Altezza.

Interesting, however I would rather have the RS200 - it uses far less fuel, Paddle shift gears etc and is cheaper to insure than a modified IS200 (well for me anyway).

  2. hmmm,im sorry but i remain unconvinced- i read nothing there about court rulings,,,i know this has been debated a lot on here before but i wasnt around on here then-i think any previous conversations are relevant but maybe not current - ie what are the projected ved rates for 2011 and 2012 -

yeldarb i take it you,d gamble 5p that im wrong - shall we have a virtual handshake and readdress the issue in say a years time when hindsight should earn one of us 5p ?

well I ALWAYS GAMBLE. But in 1 years time I will be in sunny Florida, not giving a hoot what goes on in the UK. The green card has been 90% accepted just one or two more bridges to cross then thats it gone.

  3. Auto or Manual.

If you want to go quickly then the IS200 will be a disappointment - and hard/expensive to get any extra go from it.

The RS200 is a fast little thing and has a lot more tuning options, having the well proven 3SGE power-plant. For 4K you will get a good Semi Auto or a rough manual. take a look at the auto I have for sale, with a the added bonus of 1/2 leather interior from an IS200!! Link be quick as there are 3 people looking at it already next week.

If you are already going to stroke the motor, forget the stock 3S-GTE. Take a look at the links.

The biggest setback for these bolt on forced induction systems is the stock compression ratio.

If you are going to use the TODA low compression stroke kit, this will offset that.

If I am not mistaken the BEAMS motor uses coil packs anyway,

and the other 3S-GE/GTE motors use distributor cap w/rotor for spark.

That means you would have to get new electronics, which I guess you will be doing anyway when you force induction...

Your next issue will be your transmission.

Remember, Yeldarb paid a lot of money to someone to get his car running,

and then had to take it to someone else and pay them a lot more money

because the first set of dudes did not do such a great job? (correct me if i am wrong Yeldarb)

Be wary of that route, it could get costly. I am sure he is content though.

You should read his thread completely, I have several times, lots of good info.

My MR2 experience was leading me down that road, now I think maybe not.

Now I know that this next will get some smiles and what not,

but, you could use both the Trust/Greddy Turbo kit, and the Blitz Compressor kit?

Lancia had a Super/Turbo charged car for rally sports...

    just some food for thought.

Good luck with whatever you do, and keep us posted.

I would be interested to see which way you go with this.

You are 100% correct - I am VERY fussy about mods, and Toyota GT did a poor job (thats being nice).

However it is 100% sorted now and cost a lot of money overall - although less than most people are thinking, because of a few deals I did.

The car runs a steady safe 280 BHP at 1bar, and if setting 2 is pressed on the EBC then its 1.2 bar and 301BHP. If I wasn't off to America and have to go on a SERIOUS saving plan, then no way would I sell this car.

It is set up ready for 400+ BHP, with a better turbo and internals, probably cost in the region of £2.5K all in and then dyno tuning. You could however just buy a forged engine already built and bolt it in. The car is built for ease of use and ease of servicing etc.

You can ditch the Dizzy and go electronic ignition but thats just not worth the expense, it doesn't gain anything noticeable..

  5. You're right I can't take it to the USA so it is for sale. 6K.

There is a deal on the table at the moment so be quick if you don't want to miss bargain of the year. Doing the deal on Sunday, in a swap for the Altezza I have up for sale.

For what its worth the gearbox DOES NOT mate up to the 3SGTE's, as the turbo, turbo oil return and exhaust are in the way of the starter motor, so you have to move that - an issue that caused huge amounts of welding and cost. You will need to find an RS200 Altezza 'box, very very rare things, then like mine it is easier. The electrics are a nightmare, you have to uprate all suspension, brakes, diff (if yours isn't LSD) you lose traction control unless like mine you add race logic, a stand alone ECU, tuning....... hey I could go on and on and on. Far better to just buy a tuned monster in a finished state with all the issues sorted out. :D Oh and 301BHP 280 Torque, full leather, full sound instalation 2005 SE Nav with ALL toys.
