  1. common fault for the idle-up valve on the pump to leak, engine eats PS fluid, then low reservoir lets air enter the system, then you get the noise. Bypass/remove the idle up valve, pretty sure there's a tutorial at lextreme or clublexus, then replace and bleed the PS fluid, it'll probably stop the noise.
  2. Thermostat? yours could be faulty but it wont cause any leaks. The Plastic thermostat housing could have become brittle and cracked if that's what you're meaning. If the thermo was faulty, the car would take a long time to warm up from cold. From what i've read, the expansion tank often cracks on the MK1's like someone said above. If its definitely not this, check all the little water hoses, to and from the throttle body and IAC valve on front of the intake manifold. Can you get under the car and try to trace where the drip is coming from?
  3. definitely a soarer, the indented line along the side, the rear roof line and the dash gives it away. Still, great idea nicely done.
  4. Hi guys. My LS400 is sitting quite low on Tein springs and new kyb shocks. My alignment guy says the front's ok but he's run out of adjustment on the rear and cant adjust the camber or toe to where it should be. There is too much negative camber and toe out. Both the camber arm and toe arm are adjusted as far as the cams will go. We have an idea to effectively shorten the length of the camber arm (safely), but the more you bring the bottom of the wheel in, the more the toe arm pushes the front of the wheel out. So we've come to the conclusion that the best solution is a slightly shorter or adjustable toe arm. Has anyone dealt with this problem before? I'm betting there is a replacement toyota toe arm that has 5mm(ish) less length. This, plus the minor mods i'll do to the camber arm will solve the problem completely. The car likely has similar suspension design to a bunch of late model toyota/lexus cars (im thinking IS/altezza, supra, GS/aristo etc). I know there are plenty of lowered LS400's out there these days, more so the mk1 shape but still, has anyone come up with a solution? Cheers for any input Gene
  5. My LS400 was serviced by the same lexus dealer its whole life, cambelt was replaced at 148,000kms, about 90,000 miles, 150,000kms is the rule here. The belt on the 1uz is massive tho (wide). I would've thought the 3s would be a 100k cambelt like most others.
  6. dammit. Cheers Steve, looks like im gonna be re-wiring all those speakers then. orrrr.... does anyone know if this harness is compatible with my car? http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=70-8112 It says 15pin but i cant find a connector with more than 14pins on the back of my headunit? "92-99" seems a bit broad doesnt it? Cheers Gene
  7. http://www.lextreme.com/Lexradio.pdf That UCF10 diagram doesn't apply to mine unfortunately... I've pulled the interior out of the boot/trunk and cant find an amp back there... just one under the drivers seat. I'm hoping the head unit powers the door speakers directly and just uses the amp for the sub? This sure would make things more straightforward. Anyone have any wiring info for the UCF20?
  8. Hi guys n girls. I'm a newbie on your forum, and yes i've searched high and low... now i'm only more confused. A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. I'm installing a new Pioneer single din head unit into my 95 LS400 (UCF20). It has the factory stereo system, pioneer head unit and god knows how many amps running god knows what. I want to get the new head unit running all the stock speakers and sub/amp. If anyone can help me answer a couple of these questions I'd really appreciate it; 1) Does the stock head unit power all the door speakers? 2) Are there x-overs for splitting the power to the front mids/tweeters? 3) Does the amp (under pass seat? in trunk?) just power the sub? 4) Is anyone able to point me to a pinout diagram of this stock pioneer head unit? (would be a huge help) Thanks for any pointers you can give, i'm seriously lost Gene
