  1. thanks for that. ive maybe missed an opportunity this time because ive ordered the part from A2Z. £79.99 i dont think that its a blueprint part cause the guy didnt know where it came from, just said it was from europe somewhere. maybe somewhere far east europe...like china! anyway he said they sell loads of them and never have a problem. ill post a message about the outcome, delivery, fit etc. Ordered the part at about 2pm and it arrived the next morning. Not bad me thinks. Just had the car in to the garage for fitting the part and MOT. Part went on without fuss and, even better, the old girl passed her MOT. Just a bit high on the emmissions but it scraped through. So its another 12 months of quality motoring. And all for £180 for the part, fitting and the MOT test. Why do people still buy 5 year old Fiestas for 5 grand and think thay are getting cheap motoring. Beats me! :D
  2. after fitting a home made cooling pipe to replace the rusted out original i havent touched it other than to top up the fluid occassionally. obviously still leaking from the body of the pump. its in for teh MOT next week so it will get the overhaul it needs when it passes.

  4. i only got one key with my LS400 93 when a bought it. went round a lot of the key bars on the high streets and was always told that i had to get one from the dealer at massive cost. this is because it has a chip in it. after a few months i thought id take the risk. had a new one cut at a high street key bar for £8. works a dream. well chuffed!
  5. My LS400, 93, is up for an MOT and needs a new N/S front upper suspension arm. My machanic has been quoted £265 + vat. Ive been on ebay and found some at £69.99 but when i phone them up at A2Z car part Wakefield im told that they wont fit my car and i need the ADL Blueprint part at £169.99. Next i phoned round the local factors who all quoted over £300. Has anyone used A2Z car parts ? also called The Motorist Warehouse Car Parts and A2Z Motor Spares. are they okay to deal with? The £169.99 is very tempting but im not sure about a company with 3 names.
  6. Latest update. removed the leaking steel pipe and used it as a pattern to make a new one from 10mm copper flexi central heating pipe. i takes a long time for the new fluid to get round and all the air to get out. I just spun the engine over for a second or 2, without letting it fire, and them left it for a couple of hours. Works fine now. just a little whine but whifie woman says she cant hear it. No suprise there. She once drove our 1983 Tolbat Rancho 30 miles up the M61 with no water. it only stopped running when she came to the end of the exit road, by which time it had no water or oil, and no plastic bits over the engine. They had all melted away. I pured water into the expansion bottle and it ran out of the exhaust pipe. Really.
  7. Bought a PS Pump service kit from lexus for £29. Filled up the reservior so that i could drive the car 30 meters to the workshop and the pump squealed its head off. shut off and left for 10 minutes for the fluid to gat round but still whining when engine running. Is it knacked? PS. while hanging around i found that the leak is from the steal cooling pipe below the radiator. Rotten with rust and fluid dripping out. One to watch for. If id known the pipes were that rusty id have changed them. Now it sounds like an exchange pump at about £280.
  8. Sir John With all due respect, it will accelerate just as fast in either mode, providing your foot is flat down. - Lord Jellybean Interesting what you say about accelerating just as fast in either mode. Mine is definately quicker off the mark in Power mode. If i floor it in economy mode it accelerates quick enough but if i do the same in power mode it turn my luxury cruiser into a beast. Yabadabado!
  9. Most of my driving is rural short to longish trips around the lake district and i average about 23mpg. i always leave it in economy and only switch to power mode when i want to get past something or just have a quick blast. Drove from Sufffolk to Cumbria in the spring at around 70-75 and got 30.22mpg. Well chuffed.
  10. got a 93 ls400 with 166,000 mile on it. Best car ive ever had and that includes the NEW merc c180 coupe i got rid of last year. Now got a problem with the power steering pump. its been leaking a bit for a while but now its dumped all the fluid into my drive and makes an awful noice when running. Does anyone out there no of a fix for this. I believe its one of the LS few weak spots and i seem to remember reading a thread about a 5p `o` ring fix.
  11. A bit late with the update but better late than never. Ordered the reconned alternator at about 2PM on the 23nd of Dec over the phone and it arrived before 10AM the next morning. Yes thats right, 10AM on christmes eve. It came well boxed with receipt and 12 months warranty. Bit of a tight fiddle to fit it but its done. Fitted straight in, no messing. It didnt look like a reconditioned unit though. Im sure its brand spanking new, not that im complaining. All in all the service i received was second to none. i couldnt fault them and the Lexus runs like a dream and has for the last month. Took Aunty back to Suffolk, a return trip of over 600 miles. 80/90 mph all the way there 24.4mpg. 70/75 on the way back, 30.22mpg. Thats what I call real motoring, luxury and economy. In short, I would really recommend these guys for anyone needing an alternator or starter motor. "Electrostart 2006", 21 Gleneagles Close, Davertry, Nothamtonshire, NN11 4PF. Tel; 07702 662 373 or 07900 265 426.
  12. thanks for that guys. I tried a good fully charged battery but the same thing happened. Since posting i have spoken to a technician at the dealers who said it all pionts to a duff alternator. Reading some of the other postings and getting under the car the steering pump has been leaking fluid onto the alternator. Bad news. So ive ordered a recon unit from Electrostart 2006.(found them on the ebay) for £148 plus £10 p&p. Thats £100 to £200 cheaper than my local factors. Ill let you all know if the service is any good.
  13. i too could do with a couple of keys for my L400. 1993. only have one and the remote doesnt work. was told at one of those key bars that its dealer only as mine will have a chip in it. is this right or can i get a cheap simple key from a key bar for a 1993 L400? not too bothered about remote. Just want a share key.
  14. Hi guys. first posting and its urgent. I have an electrical prob with my 93 L400 159,000 miles. Had it for only 3 months and totally reliable up to last week. I live up a farm track so have to splash through water in pot hole in had weather. Sometimes quite deep. The other day the dash board warming lights came on when the revs dropped below 1200 but went out when the the revs went up. when i got back in the car to drive home in the rain and dark the same happened but when the engine warmed up the warning lights came on all the time. within a mile or so driving with the head light, radio, wipers and blower on the head lights started to dim and the engine started to loose power until all the electrics and engine died completely. Tried to restart but starter just clicked. Battery totally dead. Left it a few minutes for battery to recover and it started but within half a mile it happened again. Total electrical shutdown. Ive changed the battery and next morning started the car and left to tick over. Fantastic! no faults, no warning lights. Until it warmed up. Then all the same warning lights came on and, with the bonnet up, i can hear that the engine is running a little rough and there is a slight ticking niose and a slight buzz from the power stearing pump. Left to idle, the engine also rises from 600/700 rpm to about 1100/1200 rmp for a few seconds at a time during which there is a harsh rattle. any ideas guys. i need to get it fixed as i have to run my aunt back home to suffolk next week. a return journey of 660 miles. The dash lights that come on are; Rear light failure warning. brake pad wear warning. Low engine level warning. Low engine coolant warning. Low washer fluid warning. Battery discharge warning. Brake system warning. Parking brake reminder. The brake system waring light has been coming on intermitantly for a while now. usually on braking or just decelloration. PS ive checked all the fluids and they are all ok.
