  1. Interesting, that bit about using mineral oils instead of synthetic in older engines. Can you go back to using mineral oils after using synthetic in an engine? I thought I`d read somewhere that you could change fron Min to Syth but not he other way round.
  2. Cannot see what difference there woudl be between a 93 and a 94 car. If its overfuelling I woudl expect you to be smelling petrol at tickover. Mines overfuelling a bit when first started. I can smell petrol when I get out to open the gate to our yard. Air filter would be my starting point.
  3. Hi, where did you get the upper wishbones from? and whats the quality like if you didnt go for genuine lexus replacements. thanks. Got them from a company in yorkshire. Parts4cars or a2zparts. They are on ebay. The quality is probably ok. Its the rubber boot that splits after a couple of years and let the water and grit in.They are selling them off at.........wait for it........£79 a pair. Yes thats right a pair....thats a right one and a left one...£79.
  4. I like it. Its my favoured model and colour. If money wasnt a consideration id buy it. Really. I havent got the money though....so i wont.
  5. Well its now 8 months later and I cannot put this job off any longer. The upper rear wishbones have to be replaced because the ball joints are shot. Im going to replace the rear discs and pads at the same time and the front bush on the Rear Axle Arm Carrier. If you have done this job Id really appreciate any tips; espaecially the upper rear wishbone.
  6. Using cruise control is never as economical as driving without it; even on the motorway. Cruise will be powering you up the hills and braking down hill. Best to drive with an "intellegent" and light foot. Welcome to the forum.
  7. You are actually doing better than you think. 38.8 lts is 8.53 gallons (38.8 divided by 4.55) which works out at 26.58mpg.I think thats fantastic. If i can get one that averages that it will be cheaper to run than my Rover 75 Deisel. Ill be happy if I can average 21 overall and 25 on a long run.
  8. I cannot afford to buy a converted MKIV but i think I can get a MKIII for about £1,000 to £1,200. Ill be happy with 20-22mpg on gas. It sounds like the MKIII and MKIVs are better on fuel than the earlier MKII like mine, but Autotrader would suggest otherwise?????
  9. It does depend on what sort of run I do but Motorway I can get 32mpg and thats keeping to 65/70 mph with local driving around 24/26 mpg I would add that I am not these days (retired) the fastest motor on the road but then I have a lot more time that means I don't have to run around like a demented Road Runner but now really enjoy my sedate driving, suits the car as well. Mike Thanks Mike. You say 32mpg on a motorway and 24/26 local driving. Is that the actual MPG? or is it the equivelent? ie 16mpg at half the cost of petrol prices = 32mpg? I spoke to to someone who was running a LS the same age as mine (1993) and he was getting an average of 18mpg on lpg. I really appreciate you time Mike.
  10. Thanks for that mate. Never thought about filling time. Im only interested in professionally converted cars. Id have mine converted but dont have the money right now. The plan is to sell the Rover 75 CDT Tourer and buy a ready converted LS400. That way I still have 2 cars (both LS400s) without extra expense. Do you mind me asking what you get to the gallon on gas?
  11. I on the look out for a gased LS or GS (prefer an LS) I have run a MK11 1993 LS for 4 years and it averages about 27mpg. Autotrader says that the fuel consumption for a 1993 qnd a 1996 are as follows; 1993= 21.1 35.4 29.4 1996= 16.1 30.4 23 But ive read threads on the forum that suggest that the later cars are more economical. Not fussed really about which year I end up with. I just want the most fuel efficient. If you have had both Mks which one did you find was the best on fuel? Better still, if you have a gassed one, what are you getting to the Lt of gallon of gas?
  12. ive just replaced the upper NSF wishbone and ball joint. Easy peasy. 30 minutes. Its still knocking on the NSF when i go over a bump so I guess the lower NSF ball joint is also shot. Ive looked at the tiutorial and it looks like a real pig of a job. Is it really that bad a job to do? PS; the car handles much better now and doesnt wonder about like it used to. PPS; and where can I get them from other than Lexus. They arent on ebay.
  13. talking to a mate in the pub last night about teh virtues of running an aged LS. He argued that they would be expensive if the engine or gearbox went. I told him that they are bullet proof and that i had never heard of one going. Needless to say he didnt beleive me. So....whne was he last time you heard of an LS breaking an engine or auto box?
  14. You wont be disapointed if you buy an LS. Had mine for 4 years nearly and its been bullet proof pretty much. Just service and a few cheap to repair suspension parts (I live 1 mile up a very rough pot holed track)(my brand new 06 plate merc was knackered after 20k miles) and they are fantastic to drive.im looking at a 93 Jaguar Sovereign 4lt Auto on lpg at the moment as an extra car. Any good?
  15. Norman, do you mind me asking, what do you get to the gallon running on LPG?I am thinking of gassing mine (93 LS) or buying another LS and having it gassed but it has to stack up financially.
  16. Its the rubber boot that fails and lets all the road grit and dirt get in. USA isnt an option as I dont have the time; they need doing in the next week or so. If i cannot find another supplier ill go back to where i got the last 2 from and try to rig up an better boot to go over them. A piece of bike inner tube is the favourite so far; cable tied over the original boot. USA most certainly is an option, RockAuto usually dispatch the same day and it takes approximately 3 days to arrive in the UK. Lowrider, I must heve been typing my response to Mike when you posted about Rockauto. Ill give them a call. Cheers.

  18. Yes there is Malc. But first things first. The NS is in desperate need of changing. If I have to I will use one from the same source as before but I know that it will only last a year or 2 at the most. Its a point that has been raised before. I just thought Id ask one last time before ordering the same ones from parts4cars or whatever they are called.
  19. I need to replace the FNS upper ball joint/ wish bone. Ive been quoted about £350 from Lexus. In the past I have bought them from a company in yorkshire. Parts4cars I think, but they fail after a few thousand miles. Where can I get one from that will last but wont cost the earth? PS: Benfur doesnt have any.
  20. I had a similar problem over a year ago. The cats were stinking hot. I changed the disi caps and roto arms and it cured the problem. Good luck mate. PS; the disi caps and rotas were juct £32 delivered so not expensive.
  21. This is what happens when you put your LS in the tumble dryer because you are too lazy to shammy it down. Not loving the new look Lexus site. I like old things. Like mi slippers and the dog...and my LS.

  23. You may mean well Steve. Im sure you do but I do find your tone a bit patronising to say the least. Im not a bloody idiot. I have no intention of driving on snow in the same manner that i might on a dry road in August. The intention of my post to to give anyone else concidering a change to winter tyres an idea of how good they are. PS; please dont stamp on kittens, push broken glass into your ear or jump off high building as someone might just get hurt.
  24. What size tyres are you running? Seems very inexpensive. The size is 215 65 16. i know that these are not the size specified but they are the same diameter as the original 225 60 16.
