  1. So, I conclude there was nothing wrong with the shock absorber despite Inchcape Lexus, Derby telling me it needed replacing. A local independent told me it was fine. The MOT Tester told me it was fine last year and this year, and Lexus Derby said it was OK when it went in for the 110K service this year. What do I pay my local Lexus dealer for? Oh, I know.........
  2. I had a local independent tyre/shock/brake specialist look at the shock absorber and they say it's fine. I was getting a check and quote for rear disks and pads as Lexus said they were nearly ready for replacement. They agreed they were about ready and the quote is better than Lexus. I'm loathed to give Lexus the business plus the fact the work from the independent has two year not one year warranty.
  3. Hi I took it for an MOT at an independent centre a couple of weeks back. Hd a chat with the inspector who said there was evidence of slight weeping but nothing to worry about and wouldn't expect it to need replacing any time soon. Also got a reply from the Motor Ombudsman after over six weeks! Waste of space. Just said I would have to prove it was a faulty part. I'm thinking it's not worth the effort.
  4. Some progress. An offer to replace it for £250 all in. I'm tempted but still feel aggrieved. I'm thinking that I may bank this, pass the email to the Ombudsman to append to my case. That way (I assume) I won't loose the current offer but may be awarded better. Lexus have said that there is no history of repeated failures of the replacement part and that it seems to be a one off. That, to me says it was a faulty part.
  5. No extended warranty. My contention is that the part had to be faulty to fail after 20k. Sale of goods act 1979 (as amended) should apply. We will see. Email sent. The real killer issue is I seem to have no other option than to pay them again as there are no 3rd party options.
  6. Thanks for that OldTrout. One email to the CEO coming up ;-)
  7. OK, it seems Lexus UK are happy to fit parts that last less than 20k miles and have refused to budge. I'm going to take it to a local trusted workshop for a second opinion but hold out little hope of them being able to source a new shock absorber. That's what really bugs me, there is no competition. I can't go elsewhere as I would for pads, discs etc :-( I've sent the case to the Motor Ombudsman as a last resort.
  8. I've only covered 20k since fitting. I'm waiting to see how the dealership respond officially and will take it from there. Just trying to understand the process at the moment. If the dealer appreciates that I understand the process then the response may be more favourable.
  9. In Feb 2015 I had the front offside shock absorber of my 2007 GS450h replaced by my local Lexus dealer. Today - 2 years 5 month later they tell me it's leaking!! Anyone any idea of a definitive source of info about the expected life of these things? I'm not going to let this rest. Anyone used the Motor Ombudsman Service? - it seems Lexus UK are a member.
  10. Does anyone know if a PAL composite video source can be displayed on the OEM display on an '07 GS450h please? I'd like to put a camera on the passenger mirror for overtaking on the continent.
  11. Interesting, what are the noticeable symptoms please? If the slider was truly stuck then I'd expect binding on the none cylinder side then, as the pad/disk wore, no pressure on the none cylinder side.
  12. Interesting, I was in a dealers yesterday after picking the car up from a 60k service and we discussed longevity. The dealer said that they are told on the Lexus courses that there has NEVER bee a hybrid battery fault. How did you guys get on with replacements?
  13. I've just had my GS450h in for its 60k service. Two points came up. One was "both rear callipers seized, not sliding". I got suspicious when the dealer said its very common and that the customer who's just left had had his done. I don't see vast numbers of people mentioning this on the forum either. My question is, if the callipers a re seized, how is it I still have great braking and is it common? I was told it's likely to be a £300 touch :(
  14. The gift from Lexus arrived today. Two, boxed, gift wrapped bottles of Taittinger 2004 vintage champagne from Fortnum and Masons. Excellent. Estimated cost of the bottles on their own is £55 each then there's the gift wrap etc. Malc
  15. So, it's a couple of weeks since the recall work was carried out and I have received a letter from Lexus telling me the work was successful and apologising for the inconvenience. They also hoped my faith in the Lexus brand was not dented.....which it isn't.....and to expect a delivery from Lexus soon! I wonder what it'll be? I suppose and IS-F is asking a bit much lol! Malc
  16. Got my GS450h back today - job done. No difference I've noticed except it was a darned sight cleaner and had about half a tank more fuel than when I dropped it off. I assume the fuel was the free gift? Back in the day, Toyota gave you a bottle of champagne after a recall as well as fuel but, hey, times are hard. The RX450h was good but boy am I glad to get the rocket sled back Malc
  17. My GS450h has been in the garage for two days now. I get it back tomorrow. They have lent me a brand new RX450h SE-L. At first I wasn't impressed but once I got the seating position etc sorted and managed to get it out of Eco mode I've quite taken to it. Very nice car but then for £53k it should be. DAB radio, wood trimmed steering wheel, iPod connector with HDD, air suspension. Very pleasant. What's more they seem to have managed to get a gentle V8 sounding burble in the cabin which is different to my GS. How they manage it from a V6 I don't know. Anyway, it has to go back tomorrow. Malc
  18. Just booked my 60k mile GS450h in. I've been told that high pressure air will be used to hold the valves up during spring removal. I've also been told I'll get an RX450h on loan. I did ask (tongue in cheek) for an IS-F but no chance :winky: No mention of insurance. I've never been asked to pay on a loan car. The dealer wants it for 3 days starting 16th August. Malc
  19. OK. I carefully prised a 1 inch gap all along to roof lining where it meets the rear screen, held it open with Leggo bricks (other bricks are available lol) and pushed cardboard into the gap to try and stop any drips getting onto the upper surface lining. I also put a dust sheet on the parcel shelf. I then used 3 in 1 Silicone Lubricant spray with an extension tube to spay up where the top edge of the screen meets the body of the car. It felt like there was some kind of frame up there but I couldn't see it, only feel it. Anyway, rattle/squeak GONE!. Now whether it's because of the spray of because I disturbed something I don't know but it seems to have gone. It'll be interesting to see if it stays gone. PS, I used the "wife in the back" method to get an idea where the noise was coming from.
  20. Sorry about this but it's a new one on me. Hopefully someone will have the answers for you. Are you sure it's not the sun woofer bouncing around? Might even be the rear shockers? Phil I have just been out and threw my mate in the back seat. He said it was definatly the window, at the top where it meets the roof trim. I spoke to Lexus and they have heard of this too and suggested the window removal but this is £££! I'm going to buy a tin of silicon spray and spray a little up in the seam to see if this helps. It is an annoying noise but it isn't all the time, just when the sun is on the rear window! What was the outcome please? I've just started getting a squeak/rattle from the back now the weather has got warmer
  21. Twice in the past six months I've been accelerating hard and when I get to 60/70 the car has stopped accelerating for about a second. This is the speed at which I would expect the final drive ratio to change - you can always feel it happen but it's more of a gentle kick. This isn't...it seems to last an age. On both occasions I tried to reproduce to effect by accelerating hard from well below 60 and it did the ratio change as expected without the delay. I'm wondering if it's occurred after weeks of sub 60mph driving and something in the drive train is a bit "sticky" . It would fit with the pattern. Anyone else noticed this on a GS450h?
  22. With one day to go before a default judgement would be made ChipsAway sent a cheque in the post for the full amount of rectification work and court costs. Just need to see if the queue is honoured and then I can close the case. Malc
