  1. Hey peeps. have had a power steering problem for quite a while and finally decided to sort it out. The problem is my ls400 dumps any power steering fluid in the system straight out of the exhaust via the medium of smoke. Im guessing and hoping its that valve on the bottom of the pump thats gone. Could someone tell me where the hoses which attach to that valve are? If anyone could highlight them on an engine bay picture that would be even more amazing. Thanks for any help in advance!
  2. You sure you mean J2 ? Because that's pretty near me, not down near the coast. Not that I'm complaining if there's a meeting there ! Sorry my bad (i blame the lack of coffee) - i meant junction 2 of the M27, as in outside of southampton.
  3. Not got a bad word to say about the lexus dealer here on the south coast - the place is in Poole and they have been nothing but helpful and very polite (also make some cracking coffee :) ). Even though i'm not exactly Lexus' target demographic (student, usually scruffy and not likely to be buying a brand new Lex for at least two or three years) they have always helped out with small servicing questions and part sourcing. So yeah, they're not all bad.
  4. Got the same problem with mine - will change the o-ring between reservoir and pump this week and see if it fixes it. As a side note - all the smoking that mine does correlates directly to whether the reservoir has any fluid in it or not. So currently driving about with minimum PAS fluid as with a full reservoir it looks like a Trotter-mobile. PAS seems like a common problem with the LS'
  5. Fantastic bit of advice that man! Exactly the problem i'm having with my ls at the moment - meaning the only point at which the seat back is level is in a rather gangster lean pose, which leaves me driving around looking like a Crips member. Will get on to the guys at lexus Poole asap.
  6. *thought the ls' had hydraulic tappets* You learn something new every day.
  7. Just to give this a quick bump - another car club i'm a member use a sweet pub called The Vine - literally 100m from J2 of the M3 - well easy for everyone to get to, big car park. The pub is nice inside as well. So if anyone is up for a quick meet drop a line here. Anytime Feb works for me.
  8. Lovely looking car that, see how you can miss it. Must have a go in a 430 see what they're like compared to the earlier 400's.
  9. The pas pump is being a loud bar-steward. Now is it loud because it's fubar'd or could it have anything to do with the reservoir leaking and maybe not enough PS fluid getting to the pump hence making it noisy? Or is the pump s common failure.
  10. Had a watch of it on youtube and it's a bit of a laugh (gets slotted under 'mindles wake up fodder' in my mind). It's not like there's a world shortage of lexi in the world either so meh. On another note he has a point - the ls isn't exactly a pulse raiser - it's a decent tourer a comfy cruiser and a reliable daily, but deffo not exciting.
  11. Yeah it does look good on the 19's just sits a bit high from the ground. I'll get it back on them and then get around to lowering the car to the current ride height. A couple of quick pics of my other motaaahs: Go on en, some pics of the various other bits of metal taking up all my time and draining all my funds: The capri, a 79 so an oldie, currently laid up at a friend's RAF barracks, halway through a swap from tired pinto and 3spd auto to 5spd manual and not-so-tired pinto. After i get it out of hibernation i'll get the 2.1 on twin 40's i've got sitting about in: The '64 P5 straight 6 saloon, which makes it a rarity: Look, no V8! The lo-lo My rickety sweedish rocket ship. Have spent a lot of blood, sweat and pounds on this thing. To first get it on the road and secondly keeping it on the road. Goes through about 3 gearboxes a year! Currently running 220bhp and 280lb ft of torque. Doesn't sound much but it's stripped out hardcore and only weighs 1050kg's which gives it a 210ish bhp/tonne ratio. Which is about the same as an evo VIII :D This used to be my daily, but then i started running turbo swedish barges and the lex as a daily - and they all do the same but a lot better. So now the mother is using it as a runaround.
  12. Just got hold of a LS400 as a daily smoker and a bit of a tinkering/project car. So will be going through the foum and gen'ing myself up on the tech side of the car. I'm a general car nut mostly with older stuff. At the moment the fleet o doom consists of a '64 Rover P5, '79 Ford Capri, '89 Saab 900 T16 2-door, '89 Mercedes 420SE lowrider, 1994 saab 9000 2.0 turbo and a 2003 ford focus. That's the list after a bit of a cull of cars over the last year, at one point it was at about 12 which was madness. Just a quick pic of how the lex looked with the previous owner I then stuck it on some 17's for a bit But it'll be going back on the previous 19's next week, and then i'll look at ways of getting it to sit a bit lower. Currently doing a couple of little jobs to make it A1 again, looking about for a new steering wheel, new gearlever, sorting out a couple of electrical gremlins, getting hold of one piece of body moulding and then polishing the life out of the paintwork. I might stick some pictures of the rest of the cars later today when i get a bit more time. So yeah - hi.
  13. As title peeps, doing a lil quick VIP look thing on my LS and need something that fills out the arches to the max. If someone has lexus fitment wheels in 18x9 flava i'll love you long time. If someone's got a set with like 18x8 fronts and 18x9/10 rears that'd be even more fly but i'm not holding out hope. So yeha whatcha got?
