  1. Yep, I am drawing that conclusion myself! For the GTE the options are endless!
  2. Copy away my friend, copy away! I did find that there were some idiots this time around (selling a car) through eBay though .... and jesus, did I get some ridiculous questions from right numpties! Classified ad with make an offer is the way to go. IMO Phil
  3. Yes I did, well spotted. Sold it to a great guy from Northern Ireland, he flew over and got the ferry back, all overnight! Phil
  4. I'm in agreement, unplug, clean and replace sensors. Had a similar problem, cut in 'just' before coming to a stop, unplugged both, cleaned and replaced and the problem was no-more :) If it doesn't work, its a good place to start!
  5. Having seen the many upgrades/mods the IS200 guys have done to their engines I am wondering what you can do for the 3.0? I have never really been into upgrading power before on an engine but with my GS300 sport I am interested in investigating this further and possible going for it! Can we get a list of what upgrades are available and the associated costs? Maybe some 3.0 owners here have some valuable info? I would like to know mod type, cost, gain and reliability to this? I am pretty pleased with the suspension set up so it's the engine, exhaust side of things.....also, has anyone had an ecu remap? If so, what power gain and what was the cost? Your info/comments would be appreciated As a footnote, I have read that the auto boxes associated with the 2JZGE is good for at least 300 bhp
  6. I'd go for the lower mileage models as it helps when you need to sell on. However, if you are in it for keeps then this does not matter. When I go looking at different cars of the same model, I don't know why, but I do get a sense (a gut feeling) for which has been looked after the best just by going through the history/documentation and having a nosey all over each (an accumulation of a lot of aspects for each car builds a picture in your mind). No doubt, you will be the same.
  7. Basic question, what "Mk" GS300 is it being on a V plate... Im guessing its the Mk2? - Yes its a Mk2 Need parts such as cam belt kit, plugs and possible an exhaust so was wondering if you guys know of any specialist shops/ websites where I can get these parts cheaper than dealers etc. Cambelt, plugs and exhausts can be had from eBay, the exhaust will be a little more difficult though, it depends on the sections you need. You can get the belt changed for around £300 at some lexus dealers I also need some random parts such as a replacment stero cos the screens gone on mine, need undertray and inner wings as there hanging off. Could also do with the washer bottle and motor for the light sprayers. You can get the stereo refubed for around £200.00. It is easy to remove and it will be away for about 2 weeks. www.mapleaudio.co.uk. The washer bottle is relatively cheap from Lexus and the pump can be had from eBay or the breakers. The undertray and wing liners will set you back about £300 from lexus. There are a few GS sites out there but these are mainly for modding rather than sourcing original parts. I hope this is a start for you anyway :)
  8. Welcome to the club Stephen. Good choice of car there :)
  9. I have an old MK2 GS300 caliper for sale and one disc (only done 300 miles or so). The caliper needs the pistons overhauled. Offers? If not, I will return the caliper to the refurbers as an exchange unit for cash, just thought I'd offer it here firstly. Phil
  10. I'd be up for this, good idea. GS300 Mk2 number plates are larger than normal though (rear). I am sure there are people on eBay (and the autotrader) that would do this as a group buy. Reason I say the larger plate (for the GS not the IS - wouldn't want to confuse anyone sorted ) is that we could get some made up to have similar look and style with regard to the letters and numbers - maybe surround also - and have the text embedded within the plates.
  11. Hey Osteo, Well, just taken the family to Pizza Hut (not at all because its quite a drive and I can really see if the above has worked - of course) and there were no probems. The cluncking has gone upon - coming to a stop - and the knocking noise from the drivers side front wheel has stopped. I'm really happy, traditionally, I have always left it to the guy's in the garage to fix problems, and to tell you the truth I have always doubted that they did exactly what I wanted them to do, especially with the stuff you can't see, so going DIY alleviates this problem and gives me satisfaction. Not to mention the hundreds of pounds saved! Better in my pocket than theirs! Anyway, I diversify, back to your question. Ebay Click ME Though this item has ended - I bought it! Cheers Osteo And once again, cheers Tigerfish for your tutorial for the pins.
  12. Update no.2 OK, received the refurbed caliper (drivers side), new mintex discs and mintex pads. Began at about 10:00am Took off caliper Took off carrier Replaced disc Replaced caliper Noticed that both slider pins were fixed and neither had any movement in them (could explain some of the clunking). Pulled out both (eventually) replaced one boot. Cleaned the pins The one with the grommet on - it was broken - the grommet that is, I replaced this - they were pretty rotten, thoroughly cleaned regreased and replaced. Now we had movement. Put it all back together and did the same on the other side. The other side had one slider pin stuck, again the gold coloured one. Pulled them out, cleaned them up, greased them and simply replaced them. No need to replace the boots. Bled the new caliper. Replaced everything, tidied up the mess around the car (I had tools everywhere - must work on this!) and went out for a spin. All seems OK, sqeeking coming from the front due to pads needing to bed in, apart from that all A OK. Lets see what happens now!! COSTS Caliper - £134.00 (£34.00 back if I return the old) Mintex discs and pads - £110.00 Copper grease - £5.00 Lithium grease - £5.00 Bleeding kit - £5.00
  13. Hi & welcome. You might like to read this thread > Click me first there are calipers available on eBay and you can also get refurb kits for them too > Now click me :-) Hope this helps a little. Keep us informed of your progress if you don't mind mate :-) Phil
  14. Steermatic?? What the hell's that? Got me there mate! Surely this thing does not have automatic steering - lol Welcome to the club though, any pics of the Skyline? phil
  15. Now you gone and got me interested in this for my LED spoiler light only! Anyone done this?
  16. I had this problem with car once. Sometimes if you move (remove) the sensor (s) there is no guarantee that they go back in exactly the same place. With the one I removed and replaced (the light still came on) I had to remove, clean and replace the 'untouched' one, before the light went out (It was covered in white grease). Do not let the magnetic end stick to anything and make sure it is cleaned properly. I believe that the magnetic field found at the end of the sensor (or the spacing between the sensor and the cogs in the wheel knuckle) is important to be the same! Does this make any sense at all?
  17. Yes, the GS Mark II calipers look similar to the IS200 ones too. Though mine have 01H stamped in the top of them, I cannot quite make out what the IS200 ones on eBay say, it's not 01H though. What the hell does this mean anyway?
  18. I bought a refurbed one suited to the car. £134.00 from eBay, £34.00 returned to me if broken one sent back to them. I did have a quote to have both refurbed for around £150.00 but it meant the car off the road for 5 - 7 days. P
  19. Good idea to start this thread Steve. It's not just the IS200 that suffers from caliper related problems, the GS is a bugger too! It's about time we started getting some definitive answers for brake problems and fixes to check out. It's a collective LEXI' problem and probably one of the weakest areas on LEXI' It would be doubly nice if we could get a thread that details symptoms, causes and fixes. Eventually, its only a matter of time, we should have a useful check and fix list that can be pinned. I am about to replace the discs and one caliper (due to sticking piston) :-( on my GS this weekend (see GS300 threads) Phil
  20. I will be replacing my new discs with new mintex discs and pads this weekend (23rd May) due to one of the new ones being slightly out of shape. The ones I am replacing are no more than 1 month old and have less than 500 miles on them. I will throw the pads in the bin, as the dust they produce is truely horrific (and one is lightly damaged)! If anyone would like the disc that is good let me know? Might help someone with wheel wobble issue. Free of charge to any LOC member in need. A token payment for postage would be appreciated, but NOT necessary. Anyone?
  21. Seriously though - have you washed the car/engine or gone through any water lately? Phil
  22. Did you set 'disco' mode on the stereo?
