  1. I would not be overly concerned with the mileage provided it is backed up by a dealer service history. I personally prefer the darker colours as opposed to silver but its all personal choice really. I would base it more on the overall feel of the car and how it looks. But i am sure you will be fine whatever choice you make. I have added some further comments Via PM please take the time to read them you may find it useful.
  2. My car is also like this and caused me an incident when i first picked it up prompting me to take it back to lexus. After a lot of deliberation. They told me the car was fine. But it has exactly the same symptoms so would be really interested in how you get on. PM me if neccessary
  3. Hi after taking my 400h in for its recent MOT i was surprised to find out that i had "lost" the underbody engine splash guard. It looks like i must have caught something cracking the plastic and eventually losing it as i can still see the retaining bolts with small bits of plastic on them. Question is does anybody know where i can get a replacement, Any help much appreciated
  4. I had mine fitted by towequippe. Pretty sure they have done quite a few now. Its a swan neck detachable, they can fit exactly the same as the lexus one for less than half the price. And if you talk to the fitter they will fit it without any cut out whatsoever. The plastic skirt at the bottom of the bumper just has to flex round a little, but you cannot notice unless you knew i had a towbar fitted.
  5. Appreciate that this has been covered in another post, but i suppose what i am asking is has it really been resolved? All the feedback from UK owners so far indicate that this happens over rough or slippy ground and that is precisely the same criteria where the newer cars that have been recalled so far. See quote from toyota press room:- "The ABS, in normal operation, engages and disengages rapidly (many times per second) as the control system senses and reacts to tire slippage. Some 2010 model year Prius and 2010 HS 250h owners have reported experiencing inconsistent brake feel during slow and steady application of brakes on rough or slick road surfaces when the ABS is activated in an effort to maintain tire traction." So what is different on the 2010 hybrid models (that dictates only these need to be recalled) from the earlier uk ones? As we have the same symptoms? Thoughts appreciated
  6. i had a very similar issue just two weeks after owning my rx400h but due to the fact it was light snow at the time it was put down to conditions. There is definitely a slight "let go" when braking in mine. It would be interesting to see who else has experienced similar symptoms to what the latest hybrids are being recalled for?
  7. Great info thanks for that.....waiting for the large SUV one now.
  8. I work in leicestershire so would not be a problem. Is that a fitted price? PM me the details please
  9. I am due for some new tyres...trying to keep to OEM i ruled out brdgestones and tried to get some dunlop SP270. I cant get these anywhere even lexus cannot supply them at the mo....Couple of internet sites will fit these for just over £150. So then i started looking at alternatives. Decided on some hankooks RH06 at just £86 delivered! only to be told they are on 6 to 8 week delivery (camskill prices very good though!) I have since been offered a set of dunlop SP270's fitted for £100 each. They are however only H rated (up to 132mph) Any thought on this much appreciated.....or is anyone else struggling to get tyres? Short of putting some Nankang's on i am struggling
  10. Having recently bought a 06 RX400h I was faced with similar decisions, here is what i did :- Towbar fitted by Towequippe for about £360 fully detachable with electric socket that folds up behind bumper. No bumper cut out and its also the same one that lexus fit! Supagard - Bought from ebay (i actually bought enough to do the car twice) So easy to put on and initially very pleasing....Will i do it again? probably not, i will probably go for a good quality wax for a better finish. GAP insurance depends on your circumstance and how cautious you are. I put a significant deposit down so did not bother, but i did seriously consider it.
  11. Thats good info thanks for taking the time out. Nice to see i am getting similar distances MPG and fill info etc. I also drive mostly uphill to work and downhill back. Still think based on my 5 months ownership so far that flats are better for MPG. Best MPG i have got so far on a tank was 32.5 based on brimming. (the OBC said 31.5 so a pleasant surprise!) But i too keep watching that screen and trying to get more....It does make you drive different but it wont make me want to drive a Prius!
  12. sorry to be a pain and keep going on............but i did take it very slowly, the snow dusting was only very light at 7:00AM my speed was below 20MPH with 100 yards to stop everything was ok or so i thought. As for brakes if the rear did start to overtake the front at least i would have stopped somehow!!! but no matter what i did it went in a perfect straight line with no grip or control whatsoever. Not sure what the answer is to my problem, how slow should you go? how much time should you allow? or do you just not take the car out in inclement conditions? or was there a problem with my car in this instance? Any thoughts anyone?
  13. Sounds valid but trust me i was only doing 15MPH the road was a slight decline so the only way to kill speed was to use brakes in some form. And yes it was 60 yards ....my car just turned into a huge sledge!....I think this speed and slowing down distance were more than adequate regardless of tyres or the poor conditions
  14. Fully appreciate all the responses regarding braking distances and tyres etc...The tyres are dunlop (only had the car a week and thats what was already on it, not sure what model) Yes i did try releasing the brake and trying to steer towards the grass verge, nothing made any difference, if anything the car gathered momentum throughout. Suppose its hard to quantify but trust me when i say this definitely did not feel like a misjudge of conditions. I was only doing 15MPH!!!! with loads of extra braking distance. The car went straight back to lexus for a thourough inspection. They have lent me an IS250 which is very nice whilst driving this home i tried to recreate the scenario by driving down icy hills and braking hard but i could not get it even close. I went back to the scene of the accident in my company van the same morning (same conditions) and that also had no problems stopping, Citroen Berlingo outperforms Lexus? I have also driven the IS down the same road this morning (far icier!!) without any problems..... One thing they have already said is that you do not feel the ABS braking on the 400H due to the regen braking on the motors...dont suppose anyone can confirm this to me can they? My dilemma now is this, if they return it to me with no fault found, i dont think i have the confidence in the car to feel safe driving it in such conditions. Every car i have ever driven would have performed better in that scenario, so why was my 400h so bad?
  15. points noted and its hard not to look like a total loser but trust me in any other car i had more than enough time/speed scrubbed to stop! car is worst i have ever driven in snow.
  16. Agreed braking is a no no..........but you can only get so much engine breaking out of the 400h box.... Grip is another issue but my experience this morning is by far the worst i have ever experienced in 20y of driving all sorts of cars. If i had the option the lexus would go back now!
  17. A short answer absolutely dreadful! I know they are not a "proper 4x4" but i expected a hell of a lot better. Mine has just slid a full 60 yards when travelling at just 15mph! in a perfect straight line! no matter what i did nothing changed my direction, i slid straight across a t junction! I now need to follow this through with lexus because this surely cannot be right? Can anyone make a car this unsafe in this day and age? Watch this space.
  18. Well got my RX400h for just over a week now. been reading the forums without posting Enjoying the car and trying to get the best MPG as part of my daily game. In fact i was absolutely over the moon............ Then the snow came and my car acted like a sledge at 15MPH sliding a full 60 yards straight (unable to divert!!!) across a junction before scarily coming to a stop via the grass verge. Never before have i driven a car that does that...now i know its not really a proper 4x4 but should it really do that? Has anyone had any experience like this and if so offer some advice as to what to say to lexus. I have just started the process but feel the car is completely unsafe in snow. I feel some difficult conversations ahead :tsktsk:
