  1. When the weather is hot (like it is today) I experience the following problem when opening the hood. Pressing the Open button achieves the desired effect namely that the boot lid opens, the roof opens and sinks into the boot and the boot lid closes. But there is no "ding" and the red strip light across the top of the close button stays lit. Recycling the roof - i.e. closing it and opening it again sometimes clears the problem - sometimes it doesn't. The boot lid looks like it's closed properly - just no satisfying "ding". When the car is parked out of the sun and all cools down it seems to work Ok again. I'm guessing there must be a switch somewhere that's sticking when it gets hot but where is it? Or maybe this is not the problem. Any ideas anyone? The car is approaching 10 years old so if I need a new switch so be it!
  2. That's an interesting comment as I must admit I did suspect something like that. What prompted my question was that I have just returned from a holiday in the USA where those pumps that might dispense biofuels are obliged to put a sticker on the pump that says something like "These fuels may contain up to 10% ethanol" - so at least you know there is a possibility! Also I noted that in France they now sell something called E95, if my memory serves me correctly, which is 5% ethanol. As usual, it seems here in the UK no such courtesy is advanced towards the long suffering motorist!
  3. From what I can see all Lexus models should be OK except pre 2002 Is 200 models, which for some reason seem to be only compatible with E5 (5% ethanol). Your friendly Lexus dealer should, theoretically , be able to tell you. BWell my "friendly" local dealer didn't know. So I called the central Lexus Customer Service (01737 367601) and after a short delay was reliably informed that my car is OK with "Biofuels" up to 10% ethanol. This is good news. I just hope they're correct!
  4. Thanks Dave, As you say - my "friendly" Lexus dealer. Ever since they had a "change" of management things haven't quite been the same... OK, I'll give them a try and let you know. It doesn't say anything in the manual.
  5. My SC430 is an 06 model. Increasingly, petrols are being offered as "up to 10% ethanol" - especially abroad. The question is can the 06 SC430 use 10% ethanol based fuels?
  6. I had the RHS (Driver's side) headlight unit changed some time ago because the Auto levelling system on the old one was playing up. However, since then I have been getting flies in the headlamp unit. I kind of lived with the dead fly and then today I saw a couple more flying around in there. How do I get to the headlight unit and can I get into it to resolve this problem? i.e get the dead flies out and seal the darn thing! Any one know?
  7. I guess age has a lot to do with it - I just got quoted £329 from the AA and £307 from Churchill. Don't do many miles (<10,000 a year) and only have me and the missus on the policy. She is 56 and I'm 62. No excessive excesses and clean licences. Good luck. Tourer
