  1. Well as people do looking for a new car etc online thought i would put something up here just for my 2p's worth really. :shutit: I have a 220d but its going friday, for a new skoda (no laughing!). A lot is said about poor fuel consumption and to be honest its not the best but i didnt ever buy mine for that, poop build quality is also something you hear about but once the rattly dash was sorted and a few things like oil leaks (picked up on service i didnt and wouldnt have noticed!) its been fine, all done free so no cost to me just a little time to drop the car off etc. 6th gear is an issue i never did get my head round unless your doing 85plus (errr someone tells me :winky: your honour!) its no use at all unless you want to drive the car feeling bogged down and lumpy. To be honest i have rarely used 6th dont do much long motorway stuff but 5th is good for 70mph and gives just as good if not better MPG, and its not revving too hard either. Once you get the hang of the 1st gear i found it to be, for an oil burner, a rapid (not fast) smooth car, comfortable, and does everything well, if anything a little too well i had a few teething problems with mine creaking dash mainly, but once that was sorted its been pretty good. My humble opinion is that its a nice car ... for me a little too nice does everything too well and lacked a little character really ... well unless you try to take it out in the snow!! then character a plenty if you can get it moving!... would i buy one again i guess is the main question... well probably i think i would! i have only really had one problem and thats when i had the MOT it was burning so clean that the machine wouldnt believe there was a car there!!..... did wonder if thats the case why the tax man doesnt see it that way?? The deeler service, after a little misunderstanding, i have found to be excellent although a little steep and very few independants (round here anyway) and T-wells lexus are more than helpful and at the risk of being a sexist git its worth going just for the reception staff (its been a few months since i was last there) very helpful and ummm easy on the eye would probably be a nice way of putting it! in fact have i got time to book it in for something else before friday! hehe. If someone is on here looking for a new car and is tempted all i will say is try it for yourself, and go with what you think i am sure there are people that have had problems with theirs but isnt any brand like that?
  2. Just a thought but if you do use different rims and winter tyres do you have to tell your insurer (i mean are you supposed to?) dont have them but may well think about looking throughout the year for a cheap set of rims and then go for the tyres ready for if there is more of the white stuff towards the end of the year or next year
  3. Have found mine just unpredictable in the snow and ice, i dont mean out of control once you get it going its fine and gives you feedback. I dont have much weight in the boot and am thinking of giving that a go. Havent been using the car much to be fair but, wednesday when it was pretty bad round here was at work til late and thought i would give it a go to get home (with the idea of having to park at the side of the road and walk the rest of the way as nothing on the roads left work at 1 in the morning) but it got home pretty much without a fault. couldnt get it on the drive mind you so parked over the road. next morning had a go at getting it on the drive had no problem at all. cleared the drive tried it later that day and couldnt get 100 yards up the road without the trusty shovel coming out of the boot. its like jeckel and hide. Am pretty sure its not my driving style changing and i have done a lot of off road/ skid pan etc driving in the past but it still just seems to feel very hit and miss. I know that things change all the time with ice melting and it being easier to drive on fresh snow than inpacted stuff but, its shanksey pony for me for the next few days
  4. As stated you dont know what the caar has been through already so if you can afford it i think the warranty is worth it there are a few recalls on the 220d the best way to find out if you need anything done is phone your local Lexus dealer and they can tell you over the phone if its had them all or if it needs anymore done cant help you with the manchester service thing and as for oil i may get slated but i use Halfords own oil as long as its the right grade for the car i can see there being a problem and its a fair bit cheaper Hope you enjoy the car
  5. Just out of interest has anyone had their car (220d) remapped?not with a tuning box with a proper remap. just wondering if when its done is the 6th gear thing such an issue, as i understand it with a remap will the turbo spin up earlier (at lower revs) and therefore able to give better drivability and therefore more useful 6th gear.
  6. I brought mine second hand from a car supermarket, so am never sure they come from the best stock! was a private owner before hand. mine had 20,000 on the clock. to be fair most of the things on mine i had done because its a Lexus and shouldnt make noises! to be honest its now pretty much noise free (apart from the odd crack! from the plastics when its heating up or cooling down with air con etc but i can live with that). In all its a good car i am pretty happy with it but i didnt buy it for its MPG i brought it as i liked its looks and the car in general
  7. I know your after input from 220 sport people really but thought i'd stickl my 2p's worth in i think the advise is good you should test drive and see what suits you same as any car really. i have had my 220D since jan this year. I like the car its different looking and i never brought it for the MPG if i did i would have run a mile i do mainly what i guess would be extra urban style driving (some town and some A-B roads) with the odd motorway trip here and there. i get about 37 mpg out of mine i have had a long trip using only 5th of course because 6th is pretty much no use but motorways it can return mid 40's if you try hard enough. i have never had an oil burner before i had this and its nice to drive once you get the hang of it not being petrol. the gripes people have seem to be :- 1) rattles ... well its the lexus theory i think cos its a lexus any squeek its back at the deelers (who are veyr good i have to say) but if it was a mondeo then you might just think noisey thing and leave it ... having said that we have mondeo's at work they get abused left right and centre and dont make a noise! mine has been back 4 times for various squeeks 2) non existant first gear - it is just something you have to adjust to a lot of oil burners suffer with this so i am told 3) 6th gear is useless - again once you get used to it its ok to be honesst it might as well not be there car is perfectly quiet/ fuel efficient and runs well at up to 80-85 in 5th And various other complaints i think you have to also bear in mind that in any forum (not just lexus) they are probably going to be someone who has a fault and trying to find uot how to fix it as most who dont have faults will be out enjoying the car. i am getting rid of mine in the new year to go back to a skoda (i would have said shoot me a few years ago) but i have had too many faults with mine ( water pump replaced, two top end rebuilds for oil leeks, squeeks, rattly seat, etc etc) but mine might just be a friday afternoon lemon. other than that its comfy does everything pretty well (except MPG!) and is different to the masses of BMW's hope that helps
  8. yes it does go with the car i brought mine second hand through a car supermarket and the RAC etc all moved over after a quick phone call to lexus customer services
  9. mine has a similar thing and a real "clonk" too feels like its slipping and then catching (although it doesnt move) also when you alter the tilt it wont locate properly on one side then after about five mins of driving pings into place. booked in on friday so hopefully it will be sorted i'll let you know what happens
  10. The marvels of Ebay they had plenty on there when i brought mine about 6months ago think i paid about £5 for a 3 way addaptor with a stumpy plug that has been pretty much spot on didnt really want it for the 3 way thing but it has come in useful from time to time
  11. I think i probably would buy another yes. i say probably as i usually like to change my cars have no specific loyalty to a brand and like something different each time. I do a lot of town driving mixed in with other kinds of roads and generally get somewhere in the region of 40mpg my old petrol (1.8 Turbo petrol octavia vrs) would probably be doing high 20's to low 30's and with the price for Derv and petrol being the same i think i am quids in.motorways i see around the 45mpg ish. Has had a few issues with rattles but Lexus sorted them out on warunte, i also had an issue with the dealer when i took it in but they bent over backwards to sort it out as soon as possible. The car has grown on me i like the styling its different (although the new shape avensis looks a little similar) the gearing once you get used to it is fine, and its something different from the default setting of a Beemer or merc, woudnt say its the best car out there but for the money i am more than happy... on that note looking at depreciation i have seen a few in the last few weeks that are a little older than mine with a lot more milage and they are up for about £500 more than i paid for mine 8 months ago so i am happy with that...lets hope it lasts til next year when i'll change it
  12. Glad someone started this as mine runs out in november and wanted to "get in quick" with anything that needs doing so that its not too close to it running out so they can fob me off a bit and then say its out of waruntee. alas no matter how much i look at them the alloys are not pitting shame really as a nice new set would be good and as sure as eggs are eggs the pitting will appear a week after the warunte runs out :tsktsk: just as a side issue do you get sent a letter or something asking if you want to continue on with the lexus extended or do you have to approach them? only 2months to go and i have not heard anything as yet
  13. I Have used it a couple of times, to be honest as i am a tart took a great deal of care and did very small patches at a time also used some water even though it says you dont need to and the car came up just fine. Also have a mate of mine who is very fussy about his car and he has used it with no problems. I have never tried a "real" clay bar so cant really compare the finish etc but i am known for being pretty fussy and i was well happy with the finish it gave
  14. Shapa how did you get on with the insurance company? did it increase the premium by much? seem to remember from the skoda owning days that it was somthing like if you increase the power by up to 10% it was one amount if it was between 10% and 20% then another amount, and over that it was plenty! money if the claims are right looks like most of the tuning boxes would be just over 20% power increase. so be interesting to see what they said
  15. Your right it does, but in the flesh , depending on the light looks white, silver or blue Its the colour i have (if thats caspian sky blue) sorry dont have any piccys as yet i will try and get my technophobe arse in gear and do some. it does look fab when its clean and when dirty just looks light blue so if your lazy you can get away with it. have seen one other one drivign around in kent too but thats it no others. the photo does look very white mine doesnt look that pale its more extreams of blue/silver dependant on the light if you look at the lexus web site and look at the section with the colours its closest to the colour in the boxes (the ones you click on to colour the car) rather than the shade the car cones out.... hope that makes sense
