  4. Hi I have a '99 is200 sport. The trc and engine check light are flashing.I have a obd2 scanner that I can plug in, but do not know where on the car to plug it in. I am aware of the diagnostic box in the engine bay, but the plug on the obd2 scanner does not fit. Can anyone help me out please
  5. I used these belts a few weeks ago,and touch wood they seem to be doing very well.
  6. Hi guys, I finished off the job yesterday, and all seems to be working fine. I followed the guide that Kev Watkins posted, and I also used an online tech spec workshop manual, both of which were invaluable to me for the duration of the job. http://bahamutcars.com/workshop/IS_98-05/contents/index.html Above is the web address to the tech manual. Overall I replaced the timing belt, tensioner, idler, ac belt, ps/water pump belt, alternator belt, water pump, spark plugs, air filter, coolant, oil filter, and oil. The parts totalled at £390, which in itself is a fair amount of money, but I reckon that I have probably saved myself upwards of £400 by doing the job myself. For anyone out there thinking of changing their belts and pump and are a little apprehensive, take a couple of brave pills and follow the guide posted by Kev, take your time, work methodically, and I'm sure you will be fine. A good quality socket set, a torque wrench, a little patience and an abundance of brave pills should see you through to the end. Thanks to the posters on this forum who replied so quickly to my earlier questions, and here's looking to the next 60000 miles in my is200. ;)
  7. Ha !! just spotted that the "key" is removed once the tensioner is in place. Could this be one of my better "homer " moments ? :D
  8. Hi all. I have begun the task of replacing the timing belt, water pump et-al, and have been following the guide that was posted and pinned by Kevin Watkins. I have replaced the water pump and I am about to tackle the tensioner assembly and the idler before I fit the new timing belt. At the risk of sounding totally bonkers and should never be let loose on a pushbike never mind a car engine, could someone tell me what the hook type thing is that comes out of the face of the tensioner. I can see from the photos that on Kevins original it is not there, (same as my original). When the new tensioner is fitted ,it is there (the same as the one I am about to fit), but the later photo shows no hook What purpose does this hook serve? Am I losing the plot?
  9. Thanks aido. I spent a long time trawling the net, and there is a very large divide on the pros and cons. Some say it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, others warn to stay well away or risk engine damage. I think I will stick to the recommended oil change times as dictated by Lexus and leave the engine flush on the shelf. Thanks again Stuarty
  10. Morning all. I'm going to do an oil change amongst other maintenance on my car this weekend, and was intending to carry out an engine flush with "Wynns " engine flush. I've just read another topic about cataclean and slick50, and was wondering if any one out there has had any problems flushing out their engines with" Wynns" I know they are completely different products, but the last thing I want to do is upset my wee car.
  11. I ordered parts for my car from japparts on Monday night through ebay, and they arrived today Wednesday via citylink courier. All parts in toyota packaging. They look to be the real deal
  12. Thank you for your help MacRS200. much appreciated

  14. The car is in superb condition considering it's age. She's approaching her 10th birthday, and only done 85k. I am just about to start replacing the belts, but I'm holding off cos I don't want to dirty the engine bay. :D Thanks again for all your kind replies Stuarty
