Tyres?
DLJ replied to PI100's topic in Lexus GS 300 / Lexus GS 250 / Lexus GS 430 / Lexus 450h / Lexus GS 460 Club
Hi all When I got my car last year the rears where nearly new Nankangs and the front Pirellies, The rears 18K on are still like new and the front wore out so I put Nankangs on, the ride is brill and quite. Ive heard it said that Nankangs are budget yokohams, dont know if that true but I cant fault the tyres nor the cost £56 per corner DLJ -
Gs300 Series 1

I knew that Colin would have some info, I tried to get the stepper motor off to clean but risked damaging the screws, I presume that you suggest removing the whole unit and giving it a strip clean, any advise on the stripping process of the throttle bits? DLJ -
If Im not wrong Colin Barber will know about this! It has been asked before, when starting the gal from cold the engine speed races away up to 1800ish rpm and quickly drops back to the norm as the temp rises, everything is ok, fuel consumption up to 32 (Yes) 0n a run and 25>30 normal use. This rise in revs on start though must cause wear whilst the oil initially does its best to get round the system. After all that the question is can anything be done to reduce this rpm at start up? I guess not due to the ECU being auto, but no harm in asking is there? Ive added one of the magic STP or something cant remember which now and change the oil about every 5K, its only done a genuine 80K, not a lot for a 1995 model. But it would be nice to take precautions as they say. Comments welcome DLJ

Hi all :D I had the same problem with me radio and not displaying stations etc, I posted some info an age ago. To cut a long story short, actually disconnecting it and letting it reset itself semed to resolve the problem and it hasnt returned. I actually took it out and unplugged it (removal method in the maintenance bit) easy to do, may work if you disconect the battery though. I have rejuvinated my seals both boot and doors with a MER product which is called I think vynl and plastic cleaner/restorer it does work DLJ

Long time no talk, couldnt resist this one, mine is a 95 GS300, lovely nick and does 32 on a good run and between 25 and 28 aroung town, which I think is pretty good for a 3 Litre. I have used an injector cleaner frequently, dont know if it helps. The mileage is 74K. In moments of madness with the power switch on the needle goes down quite quick, but goes like stink as they say. DLJ -

:D Ive had mine since April, prefer the shape to the Mk 2, its done a genuine 72K, is in ex condition and Ive only seen two more in my travels around Essex. Running costs, not a lot only problem really was the aircon. unfortunately no mate in the pub so cost me in total near £200, but worth the money. DLJ -
Hi Mclean I had a similar problem, mines black and used a light rub with T cut and MER which worked a treat. See my post re Meguiars DLJ
-
Me stupid, didnt look at the spelling!!!!!!!!its definately Meguiars, I used the Cleaner wax polish in a red tub, they also stock the Gold Class Clear Coat, might try that next. How do you post a photo????????? DLJ
-
Now I know why my comments re MER appeared to be ignored. Ive just got a pot of Maguires polish, local store now stocks it and I have to say that it is brill in the true sense of the word! My motors black and looks the buis now. However I must defend MER, the vynl cleaner is good as I said before rejuvinates the ole rubber and helps your door seals. DLJ

MAC Difficult to know why there is this much difference, the worst that Ive got is 25, the injector stuff that I use is STP get it from COSTCO at Lakeside. You have a sport perhaps that the diff?????? I really dont hang about either, it goes like a bat etc etc. Mind you dont use the power switch much, is that the diff? DLJ

Air Condition
DLJ replied to tempo's topic in Lexus GS 300 / Lexus GS 250 / Lexus GS 430 / Lexus 450h / Lexus GS 460 Club
I dont know about the light flashing, I think that it only does that when there is a fault, see my post above re air con specs, when he did mine the gas was only half full, what a difference after the repair, you really need to get it checked DLJ Posted on Aug 8 2003, 03:08 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tempo, I dont know where you are in the country but if you are any where near Essex you can try these mobile air con specs. I have just had the pipe from the condenser to the pump replaced (2 bits) and charged etc for £75 which I know is reasonable on your doorstep. They will inspect and advise for nowt. I had to buy the pipes from Lexus though and you can guess they where dear, best part of a oner. The service is Mick 07860903377/Rob 07702015454. Rob did mine cant fault it. DLJ (goog luck) -
MAC I dont know what I do but something must be right, I do add an injector cleaner on a regular basis, must help. The 32 was both ways to Wigan and back from Essex cruising just below 80 with cruise on most of the way and similarly to Oxford and Birmingham, it does seem to be consistant (with air con on as well). The round town is not just up the road and back its a 20 mile journey to work both ways and a couple of miles on a regular basis, to Macdonalds for a Mcflurry! I do about 250/300 miles per week and the fuel comsumption is regular, I have this awful habit of checking it each time I fill up. The fuel is normally Safeways, taking advantage of the pennies off each time, Ive thought of trying Optimax which seems to get good press from some of the lads. Also check your tyre pressures it does make a differance. Hope this helps

Radio Keycode
DLJ replied to jac114's topic in Lexus GS 300 / Lexus GS 250 / Lexus GS 430 / Lexus 450h / Lexus GS 460 Club
Jac You have mk 1? I think so, have you got the user manual that came with the car because it tells you all about the radio code in it. The code may never have been set, you can tell when you power up the radio it displays a note if set, unfortunately Im upstairs in my night clothes so cant look the books in the car. But if you havnt got the book let me know and Ill print it word for word. Mine was never set. If you look at some of my previous I had a problem with my radio in relation to RDS and ended up buying a second hand head unit, then my problem was fixed by unpluging my head which appeared to reset the thing. But I dont think that this would reset a code. Let me know DLJ -
At risk of a yell!!!!! Anyone tried MER products Ive been using it for years and there all pretty good, particularly the vynl cleaner come rejuvinator, this works a treat on door rubbers to improve sealing hence lesson the noise. The windscreen polish is brill and so is the normal polish, you must have seen the demos where they set light to a mini bonnet, come to think of it so do lots of others.

Randys right I took off the drums first to change the shoes this let me work out how to adjust them, my shoes had worn as if someone had driven with the handbrake on. The adjuster at the bottom can be turned quite easily through the hole with a flat bladed srewdriver once you work out which way to turn it. The drums will just pull off but may be grabbed by the handbrake pads which then means either backing off the adjuster or struggling to pull it off, but it will come. I used a torch to look into the hole when adjusting to make sure that it was all lined up, hope that this helps. Ps when you clean inside dont oil the bits but you can use copper grease lightly on the pivots etc. I used a high pressure jet wash to clean and made sure that it was dry after. I got the new shoes from Autocare in Essex, pattern parts at about £25.

I go back even further had a hilman minx in the 60s put a sunbeam rapier engine in and an over drive unit on the box, yep on 3rd and 4th only. I seem to remember having a Triumph Vittesse in the 70s in Gibralter, lovely it was and that had the same, mind you couldnt use it often in Gib, it was like a scalextric on Sundays we all used to drive around the rock for somethin to do! Memories.
