  1. Cheers IanS200 and all for reply. I found the problem!! It was loose plastic cover on the righ hand side covering cables connected with bettry. That plastic cover was vibrating when engine was running at the parked position. Thanks again for your help. PS- Does anybody know a cheap and good AC service centre in Manchester. And how costly is this? Mine works OK but just the central vents are not working properly. I think it need some cleaning but I dont know how to do myself. so better to be checked by a professional.
  2. Thanks all for reply. I am not sure if this is AC or not. I put the AC knob on off but still the same sound. I was thinking to do AC service anyway because my central AC vents were blowing cold air in the winter when heater was on. Could that be related to this issue? I checked again it defintely stop when car is running (checked at very low speed).
  3. OK, another gripe about my 54 Reg IS 200 Auto. My odometer reading is only about 45,500 miles now. I have noticed since last few days that when the car is idling (i.e., when the gear is engaged in Drive, or foot on the brake or hand park is on, and the car is not moving, such as when it is stopped at the traffic lights), there is a annoying sound like some low power motor is running or old cassette recorder with old head making funny noises. It looks like coming from the middle of dashboard where CD player and heater vents are located but I turned off both CD and heater but still the same annoying sound. It is not very loud, but definitely noticeable, well at least to me. I find it to be rather distracting and embarrassing when I have passengers in the car. When the car is cruising on the highway, this sound disappears or get mixed up with other noises , I guess because now the engine is revving at a higher speed, thus causing the engine sound to be more uniform and evenly smoothed out. So yes, when the car is moving, it feels luxurious, smooth, and "quiet"--like what you would expect. But when the car is stopped, with gear engaged in Drive or even in parking position, it is rather disappointing. I am worried that it could be start of a bigger problem. Please advise me what to do. Thanks for your help in advance. PS- I copied the above details from someone in US who had a very similar problem. I just changed few details ;)
  4. Hi All, I have IS200 54 Reg and I am not sure what should be included in the service of my car. Here is the detail of work done in my last full service Milage 37K (6.5 year old)- Feb 2010 1-Oil changed 2-Air filter 3-Oil Flush 4- Air Filter 5-Pollen Filter 6- Spark Plugs but I had some interim work done in Oct 2010 which include Milage 42K (7 year)- Oct 2010 1- Timing belt , water pump etc changed 2- Brake discs and pads 3- Break fluid 3- Oil and Oil filter changed! Now since my car has done only 2-3K miles since Oct 10 I am not sure is it worth doing another interim service (as last full service was done on Feb-10). Could you please advise me if I need another service now? what should be included in this service if required? I dont do much milage and in next 6 month I am expecting upto 4k max milage. Since Oil has been changed in Oct I am thinking to do a full service in Oct 11 if that is OK? Thanks for your help. Cheers PS: do I need to change Power steering oil? My steering feels dry in the morninng when i start the car or it could be anything else.
  5. Hi mate. I live in m8 area. So luckly came 2nd than m13! You cannot use somebody else post code bexause it counts as insurance fraud. Otherwise my frd lives in scotland i could have used his post code which gives me quote of £450! So my only option is find a genuine cheap insurance provider. Ps. I already have my sister as second driver which brings down insurance by £300 .
  6. Hi all, I live in one of the highest risk post codes area in manchester unfortunately. My renewal price went from 820 to 1500 for fully comp, the chepst quote sofar is 1150 from admiral. Sky insurance dont quote for my covrer, have tried all comparison sites. Any idea where i can try?
  7. Hi All, I opening this old thread because I have exactly same problem as kallabungo. After the change of my front discs and pads and back pads (all Mintex) I was coming home and on motorway I heared this knocking or banging sound from either of pessenger side tyres (I am not sure which one). I thought it was empty oil bottle in my boot but today again on Motorway i heard those sounds. I dont hear anything below 50 which I normally driver. Only on high speed i heard this few times with in one mile. I think when I touch breakes on that speed it creates that sound. The brakes were changes by Charlesworth last week so I called them today. booked for the checkup on next Saturday but now by reading these posts I am bit of worried. Is it dangrious to keep driving in this or is it ok for me to wait until Sat 20th of Nov. Also what could be the cause of this? Is this really a loose pads or something else. Cheers
  8. Cheers all for the reply and sorry for the late reply. I finally managed to buy all parts. @Stani1029- I am so useless when it comes to DIY. I cant even change the tyres. by the way I am an accountant! that will explain why. Front brakes discs & pads and rear pads only- Mintax for £97 on ebay timing belt kit & water pump other bits from Andy Cross (Lexus Poole). very helpful gentleman and he gave me a decent discount on genuine parts- for £266 So total parts costs me £363. Add 5 hour labour with Charlesworth Mortors and it will cost me just under £600 for the full job. Still lots of money but much better than £1100 quoted by Lexus Bolton! Cheers
  9. Hi frds, finally decided to change my timing belt for my 54 reg IS200 as it is now 6 year old (millage still 41K). By reading on this forum i have decided to change following items. please correct me if i need any thing else. Lexus genuine prices including VAT in brackets 1- Timing belt (34) 2- Tensioner (66) 3- Idler (70) 4- Water Pump (it is leaking so not optional change) (136) 5- By pass pipes and o'rings 6- Front discs (124) 7- Front pads (52) 8- Rear pads (32) 514 pounds just for parts + 5 hours labour from a good garage means another 225= around 800 minimum. I found the following link on ebay. can some one please confirm if this is good and I should go ahead and buy as i cant afford the above prices for parts http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item45ef99f597 For discs and pads the link below is too good to be true http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item3eeee1c5de Now the question is where i can buy them for good price and good quality. I got quote from Lexus for all this work including labour is just over 1100 quids. Thanks in advance for your advice. Cheers
  10. Just one thing, are you sure that the cambelt change is included in the service plan? I don't think the cambelt change is normaly included in the 60k standard service and is an extra charge. Sorry I was wrong. The cam belt is not included in this plan. The sales man lied to me when he sold me the plan but when I tried to book service today I was told by the service manager I will have to pay extra from Timing belt. It was not cost effective anymore so I cancelled my plan! Back to Indis again!
  11. Hi friends, Thanks to all who replied my post and to Knitware for suggesting service plan. Today I signed up for the 3 year service plan including first one 60K service and two minor ones. Total cost £689!! As I mentioned in my previous post I was quoted £600-£845 alone just for £60K service, considering that it seems a bargain. I paid the half price and remining balance on 0 % interest free 18 instalments. I will book my service next week. I am just wondering why there is so difference in the service plan and the normal quote? I tried to read small print on the contract but could not see any nasty clause! Cheers
  12. Hi Guys, I know this 60K service is a repeated question but I just want to share my experience and seek some advice. I called today to get the quote from the lexus dealers for my 54 Reg IS200 60K service. I was quoted between £600- £845 from three dealers. One who quoted £845 was charging me £635 just for service as I was told parts will costs £240 including timing belt, tensioner etc. I was shocked and annoyed to learn that they are charging so much just for labour. following parts will cost me £240 if I buy from lexus main dealer: 1- Oil & Oil filter 2- Spark Plugs 3- Air & Pollen filter 4- Timing belt, Tensioner 5- some kind of washer which I forgot for what purpose 6- Gearbox oil & break fluid Q1-Now I want to know if the above price is reasonable? or I can buy the same from somewhere else much cheaper? Could anyone recommend me place to buy all genuine parts online or in a shop in Manchester area! Q-2: Is there anything else I should get as well at the same time like, break pads, Coolant, Water pump, anti freeze etc. Please suggest. Thanks in advance Cheers
  13. in today's prices 90-95 miles for £20 petrol. All town driving. On motorway can get easily over 110.
  14. hi frds, its five month since i bougt my IS200 AUTO. This is my first auto car n im not familar with gear box functions. I was told by the dealer that just use D-1 for driving and ignore the other two options. I tried to read the manual but it was too difficult to understand. So i will be very thankful if u cud answer my 2 questions below: 1- when u need to change the gear from D1 to D2 or L? and if u dont then what are the consequences? 2- when u r supposed to use N-nutral option? When u stop at signals? In my manual cars i always put the car in nutral with hand brakes on but in this i just leave in D!.
  15. Hi Frds, Thanks for the reply. I called Charlesworth and got the quote. They quoted me £145+ VAT for full service by using genuine parts and £20 for wheel balancing. That seems very reasonable and saving of more than £150 (compared to Lexus dealer). Now, I am double minded. What should I do. Will going to lexus dealer I get any extra benefit (e.g free software upgrade etc and full diagnostic ) or it is same going to Specialist like Charlesworths.? I am very much tempted to save money but also dont want to take any risks (as this is new car for me). Any advice will be apperciated. Thanks in advance. Cheers Grandmaster
  16. Hi Frds, I need your qualified opinion on the following : I bought my lexus from a non-lexus dealer a month ago. Even the dealer said he has done the service and oil change etc but I dont believe him. I want for my own piece of mind a proper full service either by a Lexus dealer or a Lexus speciliats. The car is nearly 30K miles. It is IS200 SE 54 reg. The last service as per service book was done on 21K miles in Oct 07 by a Lexus dealer. I live in Manchester. I have tried to get the quotes by Lexus dealers in Manchester for full service. The cheapest quote is £350 and the highest was £386 including VAT. Now, Could you please advise is it worth going to dealer for the service and is this price is reasonable? Is there any specilaist in Manchester where I go for this? How much I could save if I go to a private garage. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards,
  17. Dear All, I am a new owner of Lexus IS 200 SE Auto (54 reg) and looking for some advice and comments. I previously owned VW Passat 2.0 Tdi 140 bhp (55 reg) but forced to part exchange with this car because of problems with fuel injectors in the passat. I lost a big amount of money on the passat so I was looking for a reliable car. First thing I would like to know wheather I paid too much for this car or it is good price. The price I paid is £8500 including 3 year 5 star AA exendeded warranty. The car details are as follow: 1- 29000 miles on the clock 2- Full service history 3- One previous owner 4- Leather interior with Sat Nav, 5- Blue color I have car since Monday and so far I am very happy with the drive apart from the fuel econmocy and high insurance costs. This is my first auto car so have not used fully with that. It seems very slow compared to previous passat (I hope this is normal in auto Vs manual). I was very use to with the passat's trip computer espically MPG reading etc but on this car MPG information seems pretty useless. I cant read it and dont understand what it means. Most of the time the clock hand is above 40 (close to 80 when i accelerate more so it can't be correct). There does not seem option of finding adress by post code in Sat Nav. Do i missing something or it is not possible? I am a big man and there is less room for leg room etc and also boot seems tiny compared to the passat!! I need to buy boot liner because this car did not have one. Where can I find that and how much it would cost me? How would I know my car needs serving etc. The dealer said he has done service this time but I dont belive him (he is non lexus dealer)! Thanks for your help in advance Cheers
