  1. Anyone use Redex or any other diesel additives? Are these additives of any benefit, ie, the engine, improve performance, increase MPG etc? Would be reluctant to add any of these for fear of causing damage, but by the same token, would use them if they were good for the engine and performance.
  2. I recently got four new Potenzas from a nationwide tyre suppliers and fitters and as part of the deal, they recharged my aircon and changed the refrigerant FOC. This process took about 45 mins and the machine they used was a Bosch with various palstic bottles of liquid, tubes attached to the aircon system of the car. They advertise this as improving the cold flow from the aircon. However, the aircon is not colder and if anything, it is not as cold as it was beforehand. I phoned them up and they advised that it should be at least as cold as it was before hand...they implied that maybe I imagined it but to bring it back if it didnt improve. Techy question, is there any particular type of refrigerant that must be used for a Lexus is220d...or are all refrigerants the same? Is there something simple that they may not have done properly that could mean the aircon is not effective.Does changing refrigerant in a lexus involve anything over and above than other vehicles? any help appreciated. I would like to be armed with a bit of knowledge before going back. Cheers
  3. I have the exact same tyres on my is220d. My rear tyres have 2mm left on them but I have done 25k and I guess they will last until the summer when I expect to get another 5k miles. Front tyres have a bit of uneven wear so will replace in the next 2/3 weeks them before NCT ( equivalent of MOT). Did you get your tyres from a reputable supplier? Did you have the wheels balanced? It sounds very strange. I would suggest that you take them back to where you got them as that amount of wear is on such small mileage is not normal.
  4. Did you clean that yourself? If so, is it tricky? I think it would scare the bejaysus out of me to do it incase I made a mess of it.
  5. Thanks for the details... I booked it in for next Monday with Murphy&Gunn in Rathgar... have to wait and see what they quote. If they ask for a forturne, I'll call the Kildare lads. I've posted some queries to your other thread to keep the topic clean... Cheers, jRoy. Give Lexus in Belfast a call. I have used them in the past and I was very pleased with the service they gave. However, the current rate of exchange and the increase in VAT in the UK may make it a little more expensive than it was. You can also negotiate with them aswell.
  6. Prior to my current Potenzas, I had a set of Sportmaxx, which were on the car from new. I changed these at 36k miles ( they were not legal at that stage), so I would have expected that they required changing at probably 28k miles. Therefore on that basis, your tyre wear does seem excessive. If you are not a "sympathetic" driver, you can really shorten tyre life.
  7. When I move off in first gear, I am getting a shuddering/vibrations before I build up the revs and move into second. I have only noticed this lately, but it could have been there for ages. The car has 45k miles on the clock and the warranty is up early March. From what I have established, it is because 1/ I dont have the revs high enough when I take off 2/ There is a problem with the flywheel or 3/ My clutch is cooked, although the clutch is not slipping ( I did give the clutch a small bit of a roasting last week). Any of you 220D guys experience this? Any ideas? I am not particularly concerned, but I would hate to do nothing only for something terrible to develop after warranty time. I will give lexus service in belfast a shout, but in the meantime, any input/ideas would be greatly received. Cheers
  8. As gti1 says, hit the info button twice. It worked a treat for me....Thanks gti1!!
  9. Whilst in phone mode push the info button twice. This will take you back to the nav screen without the voice buttin in. Hope that helps. Cheers...I will try that.
  10. Whilst using the handsfree facility for calls and whilst also using the sat nav, when I switch between the telephone screen and the sat nav screen, I am unable to hear or speak on the handsfree whilst the sat nav tells me the next turn etc. This annoying telephone silence lasts for about 5/10 seconds. Anyone have the same experience and/or know how it can be avoided? Cheers
  11. My IS220d se has not moved from outside my house for the past two weeks. I have tried to move it....an absolute disaster in the snow.
  12. According to this article, the IS200d replaces the IS220d in the UK, whereas in the rest of Europe, both cars will be available. It is still a 2.2 litre diesel, but the horses have dropped to 148. Also, no sign of auto box. That will cost them sales esp as BMW and Merc have the Auto. http://lexusenthusiast.com/2010/08/30/new-lexus-is-200d-arrives-in-europe-for-2011/
  13. I had my 40k mile service last week in Belfast. Cost £300, having negotiated a discount of £25. I was quoted €460 ( approx £403) from a Lexus dealer in Dublin. When I suggested if a discount was available on this price, I was told in no uncertain terms.."the price is €460!!!!" Needless to say, I had the work done in Belfast and super service they gave aswell. It would seem to me that Lexus give their dealers free reign to charge what they consider appropriate, so as has been said many times on this site...shop around for the best deal.
  14. Hi Guys, My 220D is due a 40K service next week ( costing £300 in Belfast). Does the 40k service include cleaning the EGR valve? If not, any ideas as to how much extra I should expect to pay to have this done? My MPG has steadily got worse and reading some of the threads on the EGR valve, I suspect this could be part of the problem. I have seen the DIY photos, but I am not brave enough to give it a go!!! Cheers Adjust8r
  15. Whilst not answering your question directly....why dont you just download your music onto an MP3 player and connect via the AUX jack. You can pick up an 8 GB MP3 player for €40 odd and that will hold thousands of songs.....I never use my CD player. ( Im not sure if it is only the MM that has an AUX jack) In my car, there is only one AUX point which is beside the 12V charger in the armrest compartment. You will have to purchase a special connector lead, but these are readily available.( these are not supplied with the MP3 player. You will only get a USB cable with the MP3 player which is used to download music from your computer to the MP3 player and also to charge the unit). I bought a "Belkin" connection lead and I got this in "PC world". There are loads of different makes and any decent electronics store will stock them. This simply plugs into the earphone socket of the MP3 player whilst the other end plugs into the AUX point. Select AUX on the stereo, turn on your MP3 and away you go. The one down side is that you cant control the MP3 player with the car controls and the track details etc do not show up on the screen. However, MP3 players do give you the option of playing artist, album or my favourite "shuffle", so when you turn it on, it will randomly play the songs until you turn it off!!! When you have this set up, you will never play a CD in your car again as it is the equivalent of having a 70 disk CD changer in your boot!!!!

  17. I had the same problem with my 08 220d se. A tiny fly got into my car and set the alarm off about 3 times one evening!!! I had to leave the car unlocked with alarm off and next day, when I opened the car, the little fly departed. Never had a problem since.
  18. When i use the windscreen washer, im afraid that the best i can manage in a sad trickle rather than a powerful spray. As a consequence, only the lower portion of the screen gets clean. I have tried clearing out the nozzles but it doesnt make any difference. Anybody have any ideas how this can be sorted? Cheers
  19. Despite my best unwitting attempts to do so(more than once i must admit), my Lexus will not let me lock my keys in the car. I dont think it is possible to do so...unless maybe if the battery in the key fob was dead?
  20. I have just fitted Bridgestone Potenzas RE050A 245/45/17 99Y XL to rear, 225/45/17 94Y XL to front. A bit over specified i know but I got a great deal at €600 ( about stg£510) supplied and fitted. That is very good value over here. Have only done about 400 miles on them, but so far, i am well pleased. Quiet and stick to the road. Hope i get the same mileage as i got on the Dunlop sport maxx(36k miles). Mind you, when i saw them off the car, i was barely legal on the back and deffo penalty points territory on the front.
  21. I have an 08 220d. Just noticed today a number of small corrosion blisters on two of the 17' alloys. Whats the normal prognosis? Is first discovery generally followed by rapid deterioration? Car is under warranty until feb 2011 so i will need to act in the next few months.
  22. Hi dgman, Will you let us know if you also notice a performance/mpg review?..........my MPG is going down the toilet at the mo' Cheers
