Thanks all. Looks fairly straightforward. I had a cambelt replaced today and the dealer (sevice manager) said they wouldn't be able to see the sensor while they were doing the cambelt - they then sent me a video of a visual inspection of the car and showed me the faulty sensor. Seems doable with a ramp. Thanks again.

Thanks Verbout. I wish it was as accessible as that one on the video, I would happily spray myself for a couple of days :).

This has been diagnosed as Oxy Sensor Heater Circuit failed - Bank 2 Sensor 1 of drivers side . I have been quoted a price for repair but was advised that the sensor may be corroded into the manifold and may result in damage to the manifold and subsequent expense. Has anyone had issues with these sensors before that have had such serious consequences? At present sensor works fine when the engine is warm. Regards, Bob

Many thanks for our thoughts guys. Called into the Lexus centre today (so as not to accompany the mrs shopping) and they said that there was nothing to do to the headlights for continental driving. They also ran it into the workshop and checked it on the headlamp aligment kit. The flat beam is not directed to the left which explains why a car of this price (when it was new) has no mechanical converter. Thanks again, Bob

Am I correct in thinking that because the SC430 has self levelling HID lights there is no need to fit a conversion kit to the headlamps when driving in Europe? If it was necessary to change light direction i would have thought Lexus would have fitted mechanical conversion facility as on Jaguars / Porsches etc. Grateful if anyone can confirm. I am awre that many countries require a spare bulb set, among other things. Does anyone know how easy it is to change a HID headlamp bulb if it should go? If its easy then it may be worth having one in the kit but if its something best left to experts then I could save the risk of carrying such an expensive item and rely on breakdown service/dealer network. Lexus SC430 in "Hide and Seek" last night on Channel 4 with Robert de Niro.

Awaiting delivery of a 54 plate SC430 bought for the good lady, hoping to give her back some of the comfort she lost while she let me run a Boxster for a while. It's black with black leather.
