  1. Looking at what has been written on here the early mk3s do have issues with the ECUs going wrong plus other bits and bobs. Problems occur on most new models of car and then are ironed out through the period of there life meaning the last ones made are the ones to have.
  2. HI all seen a few pictures here on the forum and elsewhere on the net of gs 430s and 300s with clear lensed back lights was just wondering whether any fellow members had put these on there cars and if so where did you get them from? Cheers James
  3. One thing i will say about them is they are damn quick ,you will really like what happens when you put your foot down :winky: .Get one with the sat nav and i think you would be extremely happy with it.
  4. Hi m8 it could be the tyres , i had my back ones changed a while a back and on the journey back the back end was doing exactly the same as you described. They seemed to bed in after a while but at the time it wasn't fun to drive on the motorway.
  5. The brake master cylinders dont go on all cars its just an issue that has happened to quite a few ,just test the brakes well to make sure they are not to spongey and work well and also the cylinder starts to make a noise when it is starting to go, if you do as search on here you find out exactly what to look for and what to listen out for. Also check for steering wheel wobble cars are prone to that , get the car up to a good speed and see if the steering wheel wobbles at all. When comes to checking whether the car is young or old its the same with all cars, check steering wheel to make sure its not to shiny and worn , check all the pedals to make sure the rubber on them is how it should ie if all the pedals rubber covers are worn away car has done lots of miles, check seats to see how worn they are can idicate the mileage just check all the interior well, again it will show how genuine the car is. When test driving at low speeds brings the windows down so you can listen out for any unusual noises and check all the equipment to make sure it works ,press every button. Obviously with the mileage it has done it will have natural wear and tear but that has to be within reason, Hope this helps theres lots more i could write but have to go just be sensible and dont let your heart rule your head if anything is not right about it walk away . James
  6. I have the same sensor wrong on my and i am in the process of getting it fixed. Lexus have quoted £ 170 just for the sensor while europarts say they have ones for around sixty so thats what you will be looking at for the part for that. The mechanic told me it will take him around 45 mins to do job so will be looking at around seventy for the work . Hope it helps.
  7. If it does how a good full service history with lots if paperwork to back it up car should be an ok buy, brake master cylinder will be the main thing to look out for ,pre 2000 cars have issues with this and its a very exspensive job to fix
  8. When you say it was making a strange noise what type of noise was it?
  9. Just come back from my usual weekend excersion to leicester but whilst there saw a lovely looking Gs . It was black with blacked out windows nice new alloys and led rear lights that looked the dogs. Was just wondering whether anyone on the forum was the owner? James
  10. Hi guys wondered if you had any ideas what this could be,hit a pot hole about a month ago and hit it hard, it was at the side of a metal manhole cover so i hit that aswell and knew it was gunna cause damage anyway in the last week the front suspension on that side has sarted to squeek.Seems to be comming from the shock absorber squeeks when you go over speed bumps and any uneven ground . Steering is ok fine driving at high speed and dosen't pull to that side and there is no play in the wheel on that side either, had a look at the suspension and nothing looks out of place. So was hoping if anyone had ideas to what the fault could be . Any help would be much appreciated . James.
  11. Hello m8 Ive had a 430 sport for just over a year , great engine but the rest of it not so sure about. What i will say is it is a glorified toyota and is no bmw or mercedes , i had a bmw 740 before and it aint a patch on that. When comes to parts i am just about to have it serviced and a guy i know in europarts can get me everything i need all the filters ,plugs everything even getting an o2 sensor for me, says he can get me virtually anything for it. Have been quoted around 240 for the cambelt to be done which i thought was reasonable so dont think you have to worry to much about that. When it comes to common problems with them brake master cylinder going is the main problem and very exspensive to fix but lexus sorted them on the later gs models.O2 sensors going seems to be common aswell and wheel wobble issues which alot of guys on here have had problems with, make sure you have a good test drive in one and get it up to a good speed to check for the dreaded steering wheel wobble. All i can say m8 when buying one get one with a good history preferrably lexus and as latter aged model as possiable . By the way i might be selling my in the in the future anyway good luck hope you get a goodun. James
  12. Imformation on that seems to be fague everyone says that they are bullitproof as well but reading on the america forums you do get some failures but dont think its a trend type of thing , just think i have been unlucky. The way i look at it for an example if my gearbox is knackered it 6-7 grand for a new one from lexus ,I will be very lucky if i find one elsewhere because there arent that many about ,but if it was a 300 i would easily be able to find a box from somewhere or buy an older car and break it for the tranny.
  13. Interesting. So what kind of glitches di you have and do you think they were more specific to the 430 or simply because you couldn't be as picky when selecting a GS? On dealers, I couldn't say. The Merc always goes to the main dealer and the Evo is serviced by the Ralliart dealer locally. The Lexus needs a service soon and I haven't decided yet whether to take it to a dealer or doing it myself. It does surprise me that that garage didn't want to deal with Lexus V8's. Did they deal with Lexus's at all? Don't think the problems i have had are because its the V8, have an oxygen sensor prob at the moment which seems to happen to both the 300 and 430 the more worrying problem ive had is the gearbox ,it decided a few times not to change up into top gear but over the last couple of months it has been behaving its self so i am going to get the fluid change and hope it continues to play ball. You are spot on about being able select the car you want when i was looking there was always alot of 300s around with very good history to pick from but the 430s were different they were very thin on the ground and i knew when i was buying my that i was taking a risk because although it had a full service history it wasnt a manufacturer one and to me that is king with any car. The V8 is superb i had a 4.4 V8 beamer before and its miles better than that , the lexus V8 does seem to be bullet proof from what i have read on both here and the america forums and i dont regret buying it because its such a nice car to drive but i feel because your not really intrested in performance you should go for a 300 because its the safer bet and you can get what you want without having to make any compromises which is what i had to do.
  14. I have a 430 sport had it for about 10 months now and it has been a bit problematical. If you want my opinion go for the 300, the spec is the same virtually ,your not intrested in performance so that dosen't matter and there is a lot more of them about to choose from so you can be bit more picky in what you want. A garage i had used before for a few things didnt even want to know my 430 when i asked about getting my brakes done and its not as if its a micky mouse one either, dealt with my bm 740 and it always has mercs ,audis and beamers going in and out. the guy said he didnt deal lexus v8s ( dont ask me why ). So just as an example some garages that you may have used in the past might not want to deal with a 430 but that might just be an extreme thing that has happend to me.
  15. No I'm not, I'm saying you can drift over as a genuine mistake, i.e. as you put it, you would apply your brakes. Well, unless you had sped up, why would you apply your brakes? So genuinely, without any will to speed, you can drift over. You can't drift over by over double as a mistke, it would be on purpose. Either way, it is still speeding. I wouldn't be trying anything on with the police. I would've been caught for speeding, take the points, pay the fine, end of. How am I being pedantic? you said 35 is no better than 58, it is. for the exact reasons I stated above. Next time you see someone whizzing past your house at 60mph when your kids are outside on the pavement, come back and tell me it is the same. Who, the OP, or someone doing 200 and me doing 35? If you mean the OP, he is a gnats knacker away from an automatic ban. Infact, as far as the OP goes, he would've been over the threshold of an automatic ban at the time, as his speedo would've been indicating to him that he was in excess of 60. At 35mph, you or I wouldn't be anywhere near that penalty (not withstanding other points on the license of course). However, we would still be speeding. Well i can see you and I are never going to get anywhere near any sort of agreement and could probably carry on for ever which is cool thats what opinions are all about. Hmm where do we start , I do not agree that you can just drift past 35-40 without noticing and remember you have mention 40 in a 30 zone on a couple of occasions but you do admit that you would be punished by the police for speeding, this is the reason i am saying there is very little difference the offence you have committed and punishment you would recieve would be the same . I am not condoning this guys actions which i think you think i am doing all i was trying to say at the start of the thread is we have all sped in a 30 zone and not the 2-3 mph by accident as you keep saying and probably not 58 mph either but we have all done it . Have you never in your driving life been in a rush to get somewhere been so pressed for time that you have had to put your foot down a bit can you hand on heart honestly say that you havent because i will be very surprised if you do .
  16. I don't. It is an add campaign designed to shock people into paying attention. Which is fair enough. But you can dice and slice the figures in anyway you wish to back up almost anything, which they have. In a similar vein, I could be struck by a car at 30mph and survive, I could walk into a lamp post at 2 to 3 mph and hit my head in just the wrong place, and die. It is not the same. You can end up doing 35 or even 40 in a 30 just because you are going down an incline. We all know how easy that is to do. Anyone doing 60 in a 30 is absolutely without a doubt making an effert to break the speed limit. It was a predetermined act to do it. Sorry don't agree speeding is speeding thats what we have the speedo for ,if you are on an incline which does start to increase your speed (fair point)then thats what the brake pedal is for obviously if you are paying due care and attention that is. Read again. I'm not saying speeding isn't speeding. 40 in a 30 is speeding. You are telling people to cut him some slack as doing 200 mph through a 30 is no different to doing 31. I am saying it is not the same as the intent to do 31 is not the same as doing 200. We all know what the speedo is for, but I personally dont spend all of my time looking at it, otherwise I would not even make it off my drive before hitting something. Hence why a drift over, whilst still speeding, is forgivable to a certain extent. Even a glance every 10 seconds going down a hill would see you build enough speed to go over (at which point you would brake or change up a gear. See what I mean? You just wouldn't drift to 60mph, you would purposely be doing it. Now whilst this scenario is not the same as it was for the OP, he knew the limit where he was, he knew it was a built up area, and here is the daft bit, he knew they did speed traps there..... D'oh. And then to make a conscious decision to continue at over 60 (which his speedo would've been telling him if he was clocked at 58) rather than slow down, deserves no slack cutting IMO :) I have read what you wrote and basically your saying that if you creep over the speed limit than thats ok because its an accident it wasn't intended so all is well ,well try that on with the police if you ever get caught see what they have to say .Because again be it be 35 or 58 your still speeding and whether it be a slight indiscretion or as you have said a conscious decision ,in the eyes of the police or the person you hit you would still be in the wrong. I feel you are being a bit pedantic to say that i am TELLING poeple as you have said that there is no difference between someone doing 200mph or 30 of course there is , we all know that his punishment would be no more than either you or I would get for doing 35-40(as you stated) in the same circumstances
  17. Thats why we need to drive in to pedestrians.... To help slow us down.. LOL HE HE HE

  19. Im afraid when the snow is that bad theres not that much that you can do , these are the problems you encompass with big engine rear wheeled cars in snow.
  20. No one is saying they haven't. doing 40 in a 30, or 50 in a 40, is not the same as doing 60 in a 30, or 80 in a 40. Not a difficult concept to grasp surely. Well whether you are doing 40 in 30 or 58 in a 30 zone if you hit somone there is only a 10% difference in whether you kill them or not. Police statistics state(whether you believe them or not) a pedestrian hit at 40 mph has a 90% chance of surviving so obviously at 58 mph that would be a 100%.For me its just not fair to say that 40 mph is not as bad 58 when the damage it could cause would be virtually the same. Whether you are doing 40 or 58 you are still in the wrong and if you hit someone you will kill them. I don't think that's what you really meant to say is it? If a pedestrian has a 90% chance of surviving being hit at 40mph then at 58mph the chances of surviving would be much less, certainly not 100%. I would imagine at 58mph it is 100% def that you wouldn't survive. Thanks m8 for pointing that out i have re-worded it now thankyou.

Whether you are doing 40 or 58 you are still in the wrong and if you hit someone you will kill them. Not disputing that for a moment. My question is, what is the pedestrian doing in the road in the first place? The logical extension of the plan would be to reduce all traffic to talking pace thereby giving 99% chance of survival should an accident occur. There needs to be a balance between the need for mass transport and the need for people to take responsibility for themselves on the road. Who here had road safety training as a child? I didn't because the green cross code campaign had ended by the time I was in school. I did manage to take a cycling proficiency test before they also ended which gave me some road sense. We shouldn't cater to the lowest common denominator and 'dumb down' to those who think they are immune. Fair point and at the end of the day we are human beings moving around somtimes in 2 tonnes of metal and by nature we make mistakes so accidents and deaths will always happen. I do agree pedestrians and espescially children need to be taught more about road safety because at times they just seem to think that cars will bounce off of them.

Whether you are doing 40 or 58 you are still in the wrong and if you hit someone you will kill them.
  23. Yeah and of course you and the rest here that are having a go him have never sped in the whole your driving lifes. We all do it and have done it somewhere in the past , so everyone get of your high horses. ...and your point is?? It's not a case of 'having a go' at him - and nowhere did I say I have never broken the speed limit. It's just that the OP is trying to find a way out of facing the consequences. If I had been caught speeding the last thing I would do is broadcast it. I'd just accept it happened and get on with it. Well my hole point is if you indeed do speed how can you even comment on someone else getting caught doing so and definately offering advice about staying within speed limits to me thats just being hypocritical. It could have easily been me you or anyone else on this forum caught doing it, I just feel its not a fair attitude to take I was simply pointing out that if you don't want to get caught then don't speed, it's as simple as that. Call me hypocritical if you like but as I've already said I would accept the consequences of my own actions without trying to find a way out on a possible technicality. With what you have there written there i would have agreed with you but its the tone that wrote your first post in and the school teacher style way you wrote it. Perhaps my tone was a little harsh but having seen the tragic results of both speeding and drunk driving I think the red mist descended a little Fair point as my grandfather was knocked down and killed by a drunk driver i know where your comming from. Now we have stop bickering i will wish you and everyone else on the forum a happy new year :D
