  1. My '93 LS400 is to be no more... she has a few issues and once the reg is transfered she'll be gone, a sad day indeed. Anyhow, apart from removing her leather seats and making them into electric heated office chairs, what does the collective think I should remove and sell on? I have very limited space and not a lot of time on my hands, so removing the engine etc, isn't an option! Is it worth removing her lights etc? Apologies if this appears like an ad, it isn't! Ta...
  2. The only 'real' issues she has is a blowing exhaust and the rear suspension seems to be rock solid, but I seem to remember it being like that when I first got her, the more miles I drove the softer it became. I've a rust hole in one of the doors which I think is what's making the interior damp, well I say damp, the headlining is wet through!
  3. Don't worry about the postage mate, just e-mail me your address to damian@lrwmag.com and I'll send it within the next couple of days. Cheers...
  4. I have a dilemma. My lovely LS400 has been sat in my back yard since around April and hardly moved anywhere, I've fired her up every week or so and last month I insured her for a fortnight so I could actually drive her until the tax and MOT ran out (end of Nov). Apart from her rear suspension being a tad solid and internal dampness, she was a dream and I loved every mile!!! Now here's my dilemma. She needs to go. I could insure her again, take her in for a new MOT, apply for 6 months tax which would cost around £200 'cos I'm confident she'll pass... ish! But what I'm not confident about is selling her, especially in this naff economic climate... plus she a few minor issues! Or, I could drive... sorry, tow her to the scrap yard down the road, remove her nearly new tyres and brand new battery and wave her goodbye. As I've mentioned, even with her service history and new bits, I don't think I'd get much for her. What are the thoughts of the knowledgable collective, sell or scrap?
  5. Last year I bought a genuine drivers side wiper refill for the LS400 at a cost of £8.00 I must've been quite flush at the time! Anyway, I didn't use it and rather than throw it away I thought I'd offer it up on here. I'm sure it'll fit into a normal envelope. Anyone interested? Damian
  6. Righto, The plan of buying a cheap 4x4 to tow the caravan has gone down the drain as the wife has decided that she wants to keep her little Citroen ZX, so I'm going to have to use the LS. So, apart from Towequipe., who else supplies towbars? I had a look on the Towsure website and they claim not to be available. My other option is to search the scrappies for a second hand unit... but I believe they're like hens teeth! Don't suppose anyone has one lying around their garage by chance? Ta... Daiman
  7. Dropped the car off at my mechanics the other day and he's told me there's PS leaks from what appear to be the top of the pump and the front . A quick mooch around the site and I've found that the top leak is more likely to be the o-ring from the reservour (sp?). But does anyone know the size of the seal that fits behind the bearing near the pulley and if it has seals, lips etc? Ta!
  8. Maybe it's because I've driven diesels for the past 6 years or so, but when I start my Lexus in the mornings she revs at a constant 1,250rpm, then slowly reduces as she should. I'm just curious to know if that's normal as when I'm sat at lights it just feels too high. Ta...
  9. Just got it back and it was the o-rings on the injectors that were FUBAR'd! It's now back to doing the std poor MPG as opposed to ridiculously offensive bad mpg it was doing before!
  10. Righto, not long after I got the Lexus back from having a 'new' starter fitted I got severe whiffs of petrol and noticed that her fuel consumption was worse than ever! Anyway, I took her back to the mechanic and he rtels me he's having problems with on of the fuel injectors, even with the engine turned off there's still pressure and it's pumping out petrol... he had to disconnect the battery and leave it for a day! Anyone any ideas why it would do this? Why would, with no key in the ignition, there still be pressure for it to pump out fuel?
  11. £79.00 for all the gaskets, incl DRAT and discount for mentioning this wonderful club... cheers for the list Steve!
  12. Ahhh... but at least they're only gaskets and wont cost that much...
  13. Ok, I've ordered a starter and I'm beginning to to get excited about having a reliable car again! My next question is what parts do I need when putting everything back together? A friend of mine mentioned Plenum gaskets... is that all? Cheers... Damian
  14. Wey hey! Cheers for that, hopefully I'll have a 'reliable' car by next week....... fingers crossed!
  15. It needs replacing. Do I find someone with a second hand unit, buy a 'fixing' kit, or try and locate a refurbed unit? Any thoughts / ideas of where I can find a stater will be much appreciated! Damian
  16. 37 psi? I'll go out and check my owners manual in a bit, but I thought I read that tyres should be 30 psi up to speeds of 110mph with an empty load!
  17. Now I'm not usually a numpty, however... I've just spent £8.31 at my local stealership on a new wiper rubber for my LS400. I parked the wipers at the 12 oclock position and switched off the engine, then I noticed that I can't lift the arm because it catches on the bonnet. First question, what do I need to do to lift the wiper arm away from the screen? Anyway, lifting it slightly off the screen I then slide the knackered rubber from the wiper which leaves me with a thin metal strip left in the wiper, can I assume this needs to be removed so I can fit the replacement rubber? I assume I do as the new one won't fit otherwise! My next concern is that the new rubber doesn't seem to have any 'metal' support like the old one has, is this ok? My last question is that the new rubber has a round bit at one end, I assume this is to stop it from sliding out when in use, I also assume that it faces downwards when the wipers are facing upwards? Sorry for the basic questions!!
  18. Thanks for everyones assistance on this one, £25 for a MAF off a breaker in Haydock and she's running like a dream! My only problem now is that she take around 15 minutes to start!
  19. Cheers, one question though... is that with the engine on or off... or does it not really matter? Ta...
